Reminder about the Antagene HS Genetic Risk Test and how we document it in the database:

The Antagene Histiocytic Sarcoma (HS) Genetic Risk Test is a probability test, where each tested dog receives a letter “Index” to help owners/breeders understand the statistical probability of their dog developing Histiocytic Sarcoma (HS). The A/B/C Index* provides no diagnostic data and is not a predictor for disease. It can be misleading and is often misunderstood.

The power of the Antagene test is in the use of the Histiocytic Sarcoma Index Mate Selection (HSIMS) breeding tool, where breeders can run simulated matings on tested dogs. HSIMS analyzes the genetic markers associated with the development of disease and calculates the probability of transmission of those genetic factors to the offspring. The goal is for breeders to choose matings that offer the lowest probability of passing genes associated with HS to the offspring, thus reducing the incidence of HS in the population over time.

*Each owner must sign an Agreement certifying that their dog’s test results (Index) will not be used to sell puppies or in advertising any dog or their kennel. Berner-Garde’s policy is to report dogs as “tested”. Breeders then can run simulated matings on tested dogs in HSIMS.
