ðŸū HALL OF FAME FRIDAY! ðŸĪĐ Lately we've been reflecting back on all our sweet patients who achieved a healthier weight – and a better quality of life 😍 – through the hard work of their wonderful, dedicated owners. We're highlighting our past patients by adding them to our Hall of Fame with dedicated social media posts every other Friday 😎 So, in no particular order, today we are inducting Jasper into the Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services Hall of Fame 🎉

ðŸķ Jasper was one of our early weight loss patients and was a more complicated case than average: he had suspected food allergies which really limited our diet selection. Thankfully, we found a non-chicken-based diet that agreed with Jasper's system and he achieved his ideal weight – and an improved quality of life – through the hard work of his family! ðŸĨ° Congratulations Jasper and family ðŸĨģ

THIS. This is our "why". This is why we do what we do.

Recently, we received these photos from Lucky's owner and they literally brought tears to our eyes ðŸĨđ When we met Lucky his obesity had restricted his mobility to the point where he could no longer climb into the windowsill nor onto the couch and his owner was not strong enough to lift him ðŸ˜Ē This spring, Lucky achieved a major milestone in his weight loss journey and has been enjoying watching the birds and critters outside – CATV ðŸąðŸ“š – daily ever since, as well as spending quality cuddle time with his owner on the couch ðŸĨ° Lucky has a long journey ahead of him yet but we are so very proud of what his owner has accomplished with him to date 😊 Weight loss is not all about the number on the scale – these "real life" milestones are by far the most important goals to aim for, improving quality of life one paw step at a time ðŸū âĪïļ 😍

ðŸū ðŸ‡ĻðŸ‡Ķ Happy Canada Day ðŸ‡ĻðŸ‡Ķ ðŸū With the political atmosphere at the moment, many pet owners are looking to care for their companions while supporting the local economy. There are many ways to do that, including purchasing from locally-owned retail stores and choosing Canadian brands. When it comes to making nutritional choices for your pet, things get more complicated... ðŸĪŠ FRIDAY FUNSIES ðŸ˜đ Can't. Quite. Reach. ðŸĪ

Mabel spent the afternoon "supervising" the flower planting from her catio ðŸŒļ She demands that the plants grow faster so she can reach them 😆 (All plants were carefully chosen to ensure they are non-toxic to cats ðŸ˜ŧ)

What's a catio, you ask? Check out our blog about how to build your very own catio for your weekend project! https://thehealthierpetwithin.ca/catio-lanterns/

We are so sorry for the radio silence... but we have great news to share ðŸ“Ģ We have been very busy moving and getting settled into our new home base (Dr. Graham's new house 🏠, if we're being honest). This morning we were inspected by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario to maintain our accreditation status and we passed with a perfect score ðŸĨģ😊ðŸĪĐ Nothing will change in terms of the services we offer – we are still mobile 🚗 and telemedicine ☎ïļ only; Dr. Graham does not see patients at her home – but we are relieved and proud to have this major step behind us!

ðŸū HALL OF FAME FRIDAY! ðŸĪĐ Lately we've been reflecting back on all our sweet patients who achieved a healthier weight – and a better quality of life 😍 – through the hard work of their wonderful, dedicated owners. We're highlighting our past patients by adding them to our Hall of Fame with dedicated social media posts every other Friday 😎 So, in no particular order, today we are inducting Jake into the Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services Hall of Fame 🎉

ðŸą Jake was a particularly memorable patient as he had a unique weight loss goal. His owners simply wanted him to be able to fit through his cat door again so he could enjoy the great outdoors on his own schedule ðŸŒē🌷ðŸŒĪïļ Within just a few weeks, Jake achieved success and this motivated his family to continue to pursue further milestones in his weight loss journey ðŸĨ° Congratulations Jake and family ðŸĨģ

For your weekend reading entertainment ðŸĪ“, check out our newest – and very timely – blog: a veterinarian's perspective on buying Canadian when it comes to pet food ðŸ‡ĻðŸ‡Ķ We've had many clients, friends, and family reach out over the past few weeks asking about this hot topic so when our local newspaper, The Wellington Advertiser, provided us the opportunity to share our thoughts, we jumped at the chance 😊 What's your take?

Prioritizing pet health over politics

ðŸū HALL OF FAME FRIDAY! ðŸĪĐ Nope, you are not seeing double... We only recently introduced Blue to our roster of patients and she has *already* achieved her ideal weight ðŸĨ° Blue's owner has a remarkable knack for detail and that has paid off in spades – combined with top-notch physiotherapy care from VCA Canada Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital – in her successful weight loss journey! Blue's case was triggered by an orthopedic injury and we are pleased to report that she is back to her healthy, active self, enjoying the springtime weather ðŸŒļ A special thanks to Blue's primary care veterinary team, Erin Mills Pet Hospital, for the important role they played in this success story. Congratulations Blue ðŸĨģ

Rare are the circumstances where we condone feeding a treat that's worth 50% of a pet's daily caloric intake... Today is the exception. Dr Graham's sweet boy, JD, turns 16 years young ðŸĨ°

Research – done in Labrador Retrievers, incidentally – has shown that dogs with a healthy body condition live considerably longer and have a better quality of life than those with obesity and this is likely a significant contributing factor in JD reaching this remarkable age 😊 Other research has found that about one third of Labrador Retrievers have a genetic mutation predisposing them to obesity; keeping these pups at a healthy weight is not without its challenges, which Dr Graham can certainly vouch for – JD has gotten into more than his share of mischief over the years, usually involving eating things 😂 Despite losing his eye last year to cancer, JD is still enjoying his best life and, at this age, every day is a gift âĪïļ

Please join us in wishing JD the happiest of birthdays ðŸĨģ🎂🎁

Today Dr Graham had the honour of presenting at the annual Association of Veterinary Technicians - OAVT conference, sharing tips and tricks for helping pets achieve success on their weight loss journeys 😊 It was a whirlwind two hours with a wonderful, engaged group of talented veterinary technicians! These folks are the heart and soul of the veterinary industry and we wouldn't be able to function without them ðŸĨ° A huge thank you to the OAVT organizers and to everyone who attended âĪïļ

We're highlighting our past patients by adding them to our Hall of Fame with dedicated social media posts every other Friday 😎 So, in no particular order, today we are inducting Ivoree into the Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services Hall of Fame 🎉

ðŸķ Ivoree was one of our very first weight loss patients when we started out in 2021! She achieved her ideal weight through diligent weighing of her prescription weight loss diet with a digital kitchen scale, use of low-calorie treats in modest, precise amounts, and close monitoring of her progress throughout her weight loss journey. Her weight loss success – combined with rehabilitation therapy – resulted in her avoiding major orthopedic surgery! ðŸĨ° Congratulations Ivoree and family ðŸĨģ

ðŸĪŠ FRIDAY FUNSIES 🐭 Guess how many calories are in the average mouse – scroll down for the answer (no cheating!) ðŸĪ“

From time to time we see weight loss cases where the cat is hunting unknown amounts of critters 🐀ðŸĶ‍⮛ðŸŋïļðŸ, making it next to impossible to determine and manage their daily caloric intake. There are a number of solutions to this conundrum including the fairly obvious: supervising the cat outside on a leash and harness, placing a bell on a quick-release collar to help warn critters of an incoming predator, or simply keeping the cat indoors. Some more creative and fun work-arounds include installing a catio – check out our blog about this: https://thehealthierpetwithin.ca/catio-lanterns/ – or outfitting the cat with a CatBib to limit their hunting skills: https://catbib.ca We have no experience with the latter but it's certainly an interesting idea – but might make your cat the laughing stock ðŸ˜đ (or maybe the cool cat 😎) of the neighbourhood...
A mouse contains 30 to 35 calories – about one eighth of the average healthy-weight cat's recommended daily intake. Yikes 😎
