Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue

Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue R.O.A.R. Society is a non profit animal rescue dedicated to saving the lives of abandon, unwanted, neglected and/or abused animals in our local communities.

Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue Society is a Provincially & Federally registered, incorporated not for profit society that currently operates a successful animal rescue business based out of Rocky Mountain House. Society takes in, cares for and/or rehabilitates stray/unwanted/abused animals with the main focus being on cats and dogs. The group then re-homes these animals back into suitable, p

ermanent homes. Our Society is a no kill rescue and we are very happy to announce that we are the proud owners of a our very own shelter facility! We continue to operate solely through our volunteer and foster home network. All operating funds currently are limited to public fundraisers and donations. The Society was founded in 2004 by Leah Marshall when she seen a need for a solution for the abandon/stray animal population in the town of Rocky Mountain House and surrounding communities. Originally based and serving in the town of Rocky Mountain House the group is now serving all the out lying communities in the area as well. To date our Society has rescued well over 1000 animals with a 98% re-homing/adoption rate. also provides support to anyone who may have lost/found pets by helping provide temporary homes, additional numbers and information to assist in the safe return of the animals in question. To date we have helped countless dogs and cats find their way back to their owners when they have become lost. advocates for responsible pet ownership in the community and surrounding areas by providing spay/neuter information and other pet ownership education, as well as they offer a refund incentive to people who spay and neuter their animals at the local vet clinics. The group also works with local Victim Services and the Woman's Shelter when they have cases involving animals in need and are in close contact with Town Council to maintain a good channel of communication with the By-Law Officers. In addition to the above, we also run a program called the S.A.F.E. Project, (Sundre Animal Foster Expansion Project) in the town of Sundre in Mountainview County to assist with unclaimed animals picked up by the Town of Sundre's Animal Control Officer. We will always continue to house animals as much as possible with volunteer foster homes until someone adopts them. All animals are spayed or neutered, have a full vet check, and receive their first shots and a booster before going to their new homes. We have a 10 day holding period on all animals, if at the end of that 10 days the animal remains unclaimed then ownership is considered to be forfeited and the animal is then put through it's necessary medical work and placed up for adoption.

REASON FOR THE RAFFLE

Storm had just been surrendered to us and as she walked out of the kennel into our office, we saw the condition her coat was in. We are not sure why or how it got this bad and frankly we don't care. We just knew she needed help immediately. She was in an extreme amount of pain. We took her to Clearwater Vet where they were able to work their magic and shave out matts that were 3 inches thick along her back and legs.

Today Storm woke up as a new woman! In the last 24 hours, she went from hating us and not wanting to be touched or even looked at, to being a very happy thankful kitty! We are so glad we were able to get the help this girl needed!

Every contribution to our fundraisers allows us to help these babies and we couldn't be more thankful for the support!

If you would like to help us help them. 50/50 raffle tickets can be purchased at this link! And we know times are tough so if purchasing some tickets isn't in the budget, we get it! Help us help them by sharing this raffle on facebook!

This is max also known as Gimpy. Now he has a very interesting story that we will tell when he is ready for adoption, but for now lets just take a look at how well he is healing! When he first came to us he was in rough shape and after a 4 days stay at Gateway Companion Animal Clinic he is well on his way to a new better life!

This is Dixie! You might recognize her because on Jan 31-2023, this sweet lady was brought into our shelter. She was just a stray looking for a home and ended up here. Now 777 days later, she is still looking for that forever home.

Dixie is what we call a complex kitty! She is so loyal and will love you all day long, but she isn't the typical independent cat where you can just fill a self feeder and forget about it. This girl has anxiety! But I mean, who wouldn't- living in a shelter for 777 days. Dixie would like to be by your side 24/7 and she doesn't handle change very well. When she gets stressed and anxious, it sends her into a little bit of a spiral with some tummy issues!

Most days this doesn't slow her down and she is a very healthy kitty, but when she does have an upset stomach, the dramatics come out! She will refuse to eat anything till she feels better! We do keep her on a gastro food to help out her tummy and try to keep her as stress free as possible. She has seen multiple vets and had so many tests run and basically she is just a high maintenance girl that wants a quiet life where she is the center of attention.

Unfortunately, when people are applying for a kitty they aren't looking for something this needy! So every time someone points and asks what's this one's story, we go on a long spiel and by the time we are finished, they have lost interest and are onto the next kitty. We get it, it's a lot to ask of someone, to open their house up to a cat that has some stuff going on, but it doesn't mean she isn't as deserving for a home as the next

Dixie has gone to a foster home and it was going so well, till it wasn't. Foster started getting busy, the dog was coming to visit more often and those changes stressed Dixie out and we decided it was best to have her come back to the shelter. We do feel that she would do best in a home with someone who has a routine, either no cats or another quiet cat and no dogs. Now if this sounds like your home please send us a message and fill out an application. Then we can have a more in-depth talk about this sweet girl.

Meet Saige,

This sweet girl has not had an easy life. From being born in a garbage pile, then getting sick, to coming to us with her brother and mother in November 2023. She was a sweet little puppy and was adopted quickly, to then be returned a year later in November 2024.

Despite all of that's happened to her, she is still her happy go lucky self. But, like all dogs, she does still need training. She walks on the leash wonderfully, knows how to sit and lay down, but will most definitely jump on you to say hello! She also came back to the shelter with a hatred for cats! So a cat free home will be the safest for both her and the kitties!

Despite her youthful energy, she also knows when it's time to settle down for some cuddles. Saige's endearing personality and unwavering loyalty make her a wonderful companion. If you are interested in meeting Saige please fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire and we will be in contact.

Starting on March 3 we are opening our Cat Spay and Neuter Incentive again!

In an effort to reduce the number of stray cats in RMH and surrounding area we are offering a cat spay rebate of $80 and a cat neuter rebate of $60 (limit 3 per household) for the month of March and April.
You will need to pick up an application form from our office and book your cats appointment at your vet like normal. When the procedure is completed, bring us your receipt with your application form and drop it off at the shelter. A cheque will then be made up. We can either have you pick it up from us in the office or we can mail it.

Now we have a limited amount of funds for this incentive so please do not wait if you are wanting to get your cats done. Our office hours to pick up the form is Monday-Wednesday 1-5pm Thursday-Friday 1-4pm

We have fundraised completely for this project and are very proud to be able to offer this to our community.

We always get the question "what do you need the most?"
And our first answer is all ways litter! But a close second is Volunteers!

Our shelter is run by a very small team. Now we are so thankful for them and they are all amazing but they could always use the help. Now it's not necessarily with the animals here at the shelter. We have many dedicated volunteers that help with the animals. Where we are lacking is in the fundraising department.

We are not funded by the government in any way. We only make things work by donations and fundraising. Which can put us in a bind if we have no one willing to help out with that. In this new year we are really wanting to build up our volunteer base. So if you are interested in helping out whether it be selling raffle tickets, flipping burgers at a BBQ, picking up donations, helping sell 50/50's at a hockey game please send us your email and phone number. We will be sending out mass volunteer emails monthly with volunteer opportunities.

It was a happy day at the ROAR Society yesterday. We have been out of cat kibble and making do with the help of AJ Pets and Supplies. But when we got the email from Champion saying they had a donation for us we were so thrilled!
Crystal from Wolf Transport graciously picked up the donation for us. Then a quick call to our next door neighbours at Swift Oilfield and they unloaded it for us! We are so thankful for the kindness of these companies. They are always doing whatever it takes to help us! Thank you so much.

February is Spay and Neuter awareness month.
The purpose is to encourage people to have their pets fixed, before the spring when there is a rampant overproduction of puppies and kittens.
The truth is that these spay and neuter procedures not only help our pets, but the entire animal community as a whole.

Spaying female dogs and cats can prevent uterine infection and reduce the risk of breast cancer. Neutering males can eliminate their risk of testicular cancer. By having your pet spayed or neutered, you are doing your part to help prevent the birth of unwanted animals and you are setting your animals up to live a healthier life.

In 2024 94% of the animals that came into our shelter were not spayed or neutered. We had 3 pregnant cats come that were days away from birth. We thought we needed to make space for 3 cats, but that quickly turned into space for 17 cats. Rescues are full to the brim, struggling to keep up with the ever-growing number of homeless animals in need. By ensuring pets are spayed or neutered, we can prevent the cycle of unwanted litters and ultimately reduce the number of animals ending up on the streets or overcrowding shelters. It's a simple yet impactful way to make a difference in the lives of countless animals and contribute to a more sustainable and compassionate society.

Spay and Neutering is something we feel strongly about here at the ROAR Society. We fundraise to do a spay and neuter incentive every year. That spay and neuter incentive in 2024 was able to get 40 cats fixed, with just over half of them being females- that prevented a whole whack of kittens! Through our barn buddy program, we were able to get 24 cats done, 18 of them being females.

Sixty-four cats is still a small number compared to the amount of cats in the community. But if you think that if each one of those females were left unspayed and even just had one litter of 4 kittens, that is 168 cats that we were able to prevent. The number quickly adds up, especially when we weren't factoring in the unfixed males who can breed multiple females a day.
Please spay and neuter your pets! It saves lives! For those waiting for this year's incentive, we are hoping to have more information about our program ASAP. So stay tuned for those details.
