New VET Alert! šŸšØ
Dr. Emma Hinz is an extremely kind and knowledgeable lady, with passion and experience for equine medicine and performance! šŸŽ
Welcome, Emma!
See below for more details. āœØļø

Hi everyone!Ā  Some of you may know me already, but I am back now, and with a new title, Dr. Emma Hinz!Ā  For those of you who donā€™t know me, please let me introduce myself.Ā  I grew up on a grain farm near Muenster, SK, and am the youngest of 4 daughters.Ā  I knew from the time I was tiny that I wanted to be ā€œa vet, or a veterinarianā€ according to my older sisters. I recently achieved that goal when I graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in June, 2024. When Iā€™m not in the clinic, you bet you can find me out riding or working with my horses, spending time with family and friends, or helping out on the farm.Ā
I am thrilled to be back at Eagle Creek and to get to work helping animals and the people who love them.Ā  I love all animals but have a special interest in all aspects of equine medicine and performance and have worked in various equine specialty clinics around Canada.Ā  Thank you for having me and I look forward to working with you in the future!

It's our last week with Sarah Ibach!
Sarah is a vet tech student finishing up her final year of schooling. She has an animal bioscience degree from the U of S and will be graduating from Sask Polytech shortly.

Sarah has always wanted to work with animals. She enjoys helping pet owners get their pets back to their healthy selves and helping producers with livestock.
Sarah has been learning about surgery prep, bovine c-section blocking, how to safely handle livestock in distress, and how to monitor anesthesia.

We have really enjoyed having Sarah with us. She has an eagerness to learn and try new things. Thank you for choosing us for your rotation, Sarah!

Colostrum is needed in calves after birth for their immunity. Colostrum is essential to prevent disease and death in newborn calves. The best source of colostrum is from within your own herd; although commercially available products are available. Some circumstances where esophageal or "tube" feeding may be beneficial include: twins, weak calves, complicated births, or inability to obtain directly from a cow.

For more information and videos on how and when to tube feed, see the resources here: https://www.beefresearch.ca/topics/calving-calf-management/

MYTH: The best way to resuscitate a calf is to hang it upside down.

FACT: The best way to resuscitate a calf is by using the recovery position in combination with rubbing, and ear/nose stimulation as seen above.
When calves are hung upside down it puts more pressure on their stomach and lungs, making it harder for them to breathe.

We are very lucky to have a vet tech student for a practicum for a few more weeks. Meet Aline Lebastard from Eastend!
Aline wanted to become an RVT to challenge herself each day and learn how to better help animals at home and on the farm. She loves working with animals on a daily basis.

Aline has been gaining well-rounded knowledge through learning how different clinics run and do varying procedures.

Aline is very friendly and knowledgeable. If you see her, please give her a warm welcome. Thank you for choosing us for your practicum, Aline!

Staff Highlight!

Hi! Iā€™m Keaton Wenzel. I was born and raised right here in Rosetown on a grain and cattle farm! Youā€™ll find me helping around the clinic or upstairs wrangling two little ones!

I reside on an acreage outside of Rosetown with my herd of cattle, my dog Bella and many farm cats!

Iā€™m a lover of all animals, but bottle fed orphan calves have a special place in my heart!

-----------

We are so lucky to have Keaton!
We appreciate how flexible she is with either helping take care of the staff's kids or tackling reception. She's a dream to have around!

Happy Thanksgiving from our crew to yours! We will be closed Monday, October 9. Emergency services are available (306-831-9222). Today, one of the many things we are reflecting on is our gratitude for this community, our staff, and our clients.

We hope you enjoyed the Harvest Festival! We loved seeing all the smiling faces at the parade, and we even got our magical unicorn on the RCMP motorcycle!
Colton and Nikki worked really hard on their pumpkin carving for the contest. We think they deserve an honorable mention for a pumpkin carving only a vet clinic would do. šŸ¤£

Happy Thanksgiving! šŸ¦ƒ

And now, a special message from our newest veterinarian. Welcome to Eagle Creek Vet, Nicole! We are so excited to have you!

Hi! Allow me to introduce myselfā€¦ I am Dr Nicole Crossman. I was born and raised right here in Rosetown and I grew up on a grain farm. I fulfilled my lifelong dream when I graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. Throughout my life, I have always been strongly bonded and drawn to animals.

I currently reside on an acreage outside of Ruthilda with my rescue dog Lacey, Himalayan cat Tia and my busy 17 month old son, Nixon.Ā

My favourite areas of veterinary medicine include feline medicine, wellness, behavior and dermatology. I love making special connections with both clients and their pets. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones soon! ā˜ŗļø

Only a short amount of time left to share our friendly, hardworking veterinary student, Emma Hinz, before she heads back to finish her 4th year! Here are a few quick facts about her:

- She grew up outside of Muenster, SK, riding horses and helping on the family farm
- She is the youngest of 4 daughters
- She has always been drawn to animals, and knew her veterinary passion from a very young (even in diapers) age
- Not only does she love animals, she loves the people that care for them (hey, that's you!)

Emma would like to express that the patient, clients, and staff her have made her feel very welcome here... and the puppies and kittens don't hurt either!

Thanks for choosing to spend your summer with us, Emma!

We are reminiscing back to April when we were able to host the Handel 4-H Group for a tour! They got hands on learning from our RVTs, Rachel & Nikki, about how to properly cast a calf leg. What a great day. Thanks for coming out!
