Good night from these Very Good Dogs, who all had an excellent day, and are more than happy to snuggle into their beds. Everyone got a pat and scritch, and a cookie in bed. šŖ
We are the next best thing to home: small volume and quiet, with lots of hands-on care, every day.

Ashley doesnāt just care for dogs as a job: most of her time off is spent competing with and training her own dogs, and attending seminars on dog training and behaviour. This weekend she was in Warman at a nosework trial with her youngster Gord, where competing dogs searched locations for a specific odour that had been strategically concealed, much like a police drug dog would.
Learning to work with your dog as a team is incredibly rewarding, and helps create a very strong bond and understanding. If you are looking for a very fun and accessible activity for dogs of all sizes and abilities, there are nosework classes offered in Regina, to learn to do this.
Borkday boy Gord got a special borkday cake from Coletteās Cakes. She makes the most thoughtful, delightful pet cakes, and is an all-around terrific human.
Contact her to have a special cake created for your pupās special day. š
Happy Birthday to Gord! All the pumpkin for Gord who is such a big sweetheart. š š His momma shared his pictures with me and his eyes were soooo happy to take a big bite of his cake. Gord is also a very kind puppers for sharing his cake with his brother.
Ashley was the lucky winner of the dog cake donation from an event that a dear customer was holding for nosework. It has been amazing meeting all the new people and having the opportunity to bake for all the doggos š¶šš
Itās resident dog Gordās first birthday today.
Food is his favourite, even if itās pretend food. Join us in celebrating, with a video of your dog also enjoying some pretend food. Remember to let your pup clean up those crumbs!!
An overwhelming majority of dogs who stay with us, range from overweight to morbidly obese. We can see their bodies struggling to carry them, and can see joint issues starting to develop.
Dogs are supposed to be athletic, sinewy hunters, capable of speed and endurance. Their bodies are meant to be lean, with muscles and ribs visible when they bend. Unfortunately, this body type has become so uncommon, that it is often seen as underweight and worrisome.
Letās talk about the #1 killer of dogs: Obesity ā£
ā£
This photo represents what a fit/healthy dog should look likeā ā£
a healthy dog should have a waistline with a clear abdominal tuck just below their ribcage. ā£
ā£
If seeing a corgi like this makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable, youāre not alone. ā£
ā£
We, as a society, have normalized fat dogs. By using phrases like thicc, chonker, and big b***d, weāve altered our perception of reality. Fat is the new normal and healthy is the new unhealthy. ā£
ā£
We, as a society, have told ourselves that fat dogs are cute. ā£
But, let me ask you a question. Is that āthiccā dog still cute when they develop life altering heart problems, joint problems, or cancer? ā£
ā£
Yeah I went there. ā£
ā£
Is it a strange coincidence that 56% of dogs are overweight, and 50% of dogs get cancer? OR, is this proof that we are literally killing our dogs with their own food bowls?ā£
ā£
We owe it to our dogs to do better. We must do better.ā£
ā£
Hereās how you can start changing perceptions:ā£
- Every time you feed your dog, assess their body conditionā£
- Measure your dogās food for every meal (donāt eyeball it)ā£
- Exercise your dog EVERY dayā£
- Donāt defend your dogās overweight-nessā£
- Donāt glorify other peopleās overweight dogsā£
- Donāt use words like chonker, thicc, or big-b***d to describe a dogā£
ā£
Most importantly, DO NOT chastise your vet for mentioning your dogās weight. ā£
ā£
Matter of fact, you should be discussing your dogās body condition during every vet visit. If they donāt bring it up, ask them about it. ā£
ā£
Itās important to have an open mind during these conversations. ā£
ā£
Recognize that society has skewed your perception of āhealthyā and actively work on being better for your dog. ā£
ā£
Your dogās health is quite literally in your hands.

Many vets now recommend leaving dogs intact past puberty, to allow their bodies to fully develop.
We are happy to support families in this decision, and do not require our guests to be spayed or neutered; however, we do strongly recommend families track heat cycles and plan their dogās time with us accordingly. Females who show signs of going into heat while in our care, will have to be picked up by the emergency or alternate contact.
Happy housemates part 2. These snorty little bowling balls like each other and play appropriately, but do best eating and sleeping separately, to prevent misunderstandings.
We always enjoy having them for a visit, and cheering on their goofy play.
This best girl has some reactivity issues, but she has really thrived here. She is at a point now where she trusts us and our routine enough, that she no longer needs special management, like visual barriers, to exist in our kennel around other dogs.
She has become one of our easiest regular guests, and we look forward to her time here.

Happy housemates doing happy dog things. š
**If itās a good choice for them, housemates get lots and lots of together time throughout the day. During feeding and at nap and bed times, they get their own space, as standard practice.
We are full or nearly full, especially for big dogs, most summer weekends. If you have plans but havenāt booked your pup in with us yet, give us a call or send an email to confirm we have space for the dates you need!
Happy dogs doing happy dog stuff.
Just trying to enjoy some coffee. Except dog.
This is the best time of the year, where itās not too hot or too cold, and we can spend almost the entire day outside. This makes for some happy (and sleepy) campers.
!!Reminder!!
If you sent us an email, and donāt see a reply in a reasonable time, check your spam folder. We send out a lot of email correspondence, pupdates, and invoices, and sometimes The System will flag our emails as spam.
There is nothing we can do about this on our end, but you can mark us as āsafeā or ānot spamā and that might ensure future emails from us end up in your regular inbox.
If youāve ever said hi to me when you see me out in the world, you know this is true.
Sorry. š¬
I only recognise people on my walk because of their dogs ... SC
We donāt offer group play, but that doesnāt mean our guests donāt have social interactions with each other! We thoughtfully pair neighbours for outside time, and often, we see soft, friendly parallel play like this. Sometimes these dogs would have a quick, polite sniff through the fence, and then they would go back to their own activity. When they didnāt care to interact, there was no pressure to do so, and the potential for hurt feelings or a misunderstanding was greatly reduced.
Thanks for the visits, Maple and V***n! We hope you two end up here at the same time again! šš§”
These three housemates all have reduced hearing and/or vision. Itās been super neat seeing them adapt to our environment and routine, and watching them thrive. If you didnāt know they were differently abled, you probably wouldnāt notice anything unusual about how they get along here!
For guests who like to play ball, we do a lot of this. Itās fun for them, and fun for us. We are mindful of dogs who donāt have good sense or care with their bodies though, and find different activities for them. For this dog, on this day, this was the perfect type of exercise, and this met all her afternoon play and emotional needs.
Thanks for the visit, Maple. You were an excellent guest! š
Heads up!!
We are nearly booked for some weekends over the summer. If you are still working out some plans, you might want to gets things finalized soon!
** Remember to check your vaccinations as you finalize your plans, to ensure they are current!
All of our guestsā needs were met for the day, and this special old lady wanted some time without other dogs around. She tolerates neighbours okay, but really enjoys having the outside all to herself, to sniff around and take a favourite toy for a walkā¦ actually, this sounds a lot like me, too. š§”
āDo you want to say hi to your mum [in this video I will send her]?ā
OMG MUMS HERE TOO
Some pups from the last couple of days. Itās been so nice and sunny out!!
Sometimes, our guests are so, so excited and joyful. We love that. Sometimes, they express this by jumping up. Obviously, we donāt encourage this, but understand it is a thing that happens, and usually, we are able to protect our bodies from their impact. Dogs do dog stuff. š¤·š¼āāļø
Today, a dog jumped up and hit Lonnieās crotch SO HARD, that his Apple Watch asked if he had fallen, and if it should call 911.
True story, but we will never name the dog.
Bedtime cookies.
Watch your fingers!
If the world ran in reverse, dogs would be amazing (but probably sad and confused) treat dispensers. Youād just have to put your hand near their mouths and one would magically appear.
This is a great management hack for dogs who bark at stuff outside. Management strategies like this, are often immediately 100% effective and require zero training skill or time.
When families come here for a visit and tour, they usually ask us a lot of questions about what their dog will do during the day, when meals are, how much outside and nap time their dog will get, and other good questions about the structure of our days.
In more than ten years of offering professional pet care, we have only ever been asked once or twice about how often dogs are injured while in our care. This is too bad, because itās information that is as, or more, important than how much play a dog gets.
For us, itās incredibly rare that dogs are injured or become sick while in our care. We get the odd upset tummy from stress or over/under eating, and the odd bump or scrape from boisterous play, but we have never had to take a guest to the vet with serious injuries from something we did, or that happened here.
While nothing is ever guaranteed, our set up, routine, level of care, and skill, help ensure your dog leaves us as healthy and happy, as they arrived.
Fun play in the snow with first-time guests. It makes me so happy when our guests are comfortable enough here, to move, explore, sniff around, and laugh-play with me like this.

Imagine going to a hotel and having the waitstaff and facilities all to yourself, for your turn, throughout the day, every day. Does that sound good or what?
It was a good weekend for our guests. We had a lot of fun in the mild weather, and spent as much time as we could, outside. Our guests love being able to move and play in our yard!
BEDTIME COOKIES!! Even the most picky pup has enjoyed our current cookie flavour. Whatās the secret recipe? Right now, we are using Honest Kitchen kibbles. They are easily broken in half and quarters for maximum stinginess , and are made with human-grade ingredients. Have I tried them? Yes I have. They taste like a meat cracker would.
We are proud to be the smallest professional kennel in the Regina area. Our low numbers mean that each guest receives hands-on care every day, from highly trained and skilled care givers. Dogs enjoy fully supervised group and/or individual play time, lots of special attention, and relaxing down time during their stay here. Cats stay in luxury 4x8 or 8x8 kennels with multi-level perches and a window in every suite, with the option to play and explore in our sunny 1,000 square foot "Catruim".
