NEW TRAVEL RULES HAVE BEEN AGREED
If you are travelling with your dog into the US after 1st August, you will need to book an appointment with your veterinarian prior to travel.
The vet needs to:
-confirm pet's details - Name, Breed, S*x, Date of Birth, colour/markings
- scan and verify your pet's microchip number and confirm the date it was implanted
- confirm details of Rabies vaccination including manufacturer, serial number, product expiry date, date vaccine administered, date next vaccine is due. If the pet hasn't received a Rabies vaccination before, this needs to be done at a minimum of 30 days prior to travel.
- confirm the pet is over 6 months of age
- provide copy of medical records, and ensure pet's details are consistent.
- provide a Rabies Vaccine Certificate for any rabies vaccine administered. If Rabies vaccine was administered by another veterinary practice you will need to obtain a copy of the certificate from them (signed by the Dr in blue ink) and bring this certificate to your appointment.
Once the vet has signed and stamped the form with the practice stamp, you need to keep this form along with the Rabies vaccine certificate, the copy of your pet's medical records for the previous 6 months and the copy of the CDC Import Form Receipt for inspection at the border.
This protocol applies for dogs that have been within Canada and not to have travelled to any of the high risk countries listed on the CDC website. The link below is for the Canadian government website that lists further information for export and for other pets.
At present the CDC website hasn't been updated with the final information but we will forward this to you all as soon as it becomes available. We do not know yet how far in advance of travel these forms need to be completed.
