I ve been enjoying a stay-cation this past week and kinda missed National dog day, so let's celebrate it again!(cause let's be honest, every day with your dog is a reason to celebrate 🥰) share some pics of your pups and why they are so darn special! I ll go first, here is my best girl Scully, and she enjoys watching TV, hunting rats, and going to dog shows.

Did you know that both of these dogs are the same? Thats right ! Both of these handsome gents are Bernadoodles. 😮 Because doodles are a cross breed there can be quite a variety in coat type, colour, size and temperament. Some can take on more of the Bernese traits and others can take on more poodle traits. This can happen to puppies in the same litter! Genetics are so cool! Depending on which traits are dominant will determine what kind of coat maintenance is required. Both of these guys are super sweet and good boys 😊

Look at that happy dog. A hap happy dog 🎵🥰 Did you know that the Samoyed is also called the dog "with Christmas on his face" this in reference to the joyful like expression and playful nature of the breed. Laska is definitely all smiles in this picture. ❤

Did you know that clean feet have a purpose? Its not just a funny foot fe**sh 😆 Poodles are retrievers and hunt and swim! The hunters would shave the feet to allow the dog to use its webbed toes to better grab the water and allows for grip in mud and slippery surfaces. Thick hair left can leave a perfect moist environment for bacteria and pests. This also allowed the hunter to easily clean and inspect his dogs paws for any injuries. Clean feet are a natural part of the poodle trim and a necessity for hunting poodles! Clean feet is also a tricky skill that many groomers must master to avoid cutting the webbing between the toes. For the suburban poodle, clean feet maintain the tradition of the hunting poodle and also keep the dog from tracking dirt inside the home.

Bauer had a negative experience at his last salon. We took things slow and turns out he LOVES to be sung too and just needs a soft hand to trust. He was so happy with himself and relaxed 😌 Well done buddy!

Here is a wonderful breed! The Brittney medium sized gun dog and part of the sporting group. They are an active and intelligent breed with less coat demands than the English Springer. Great dogs for runners or anyone looking for a competitive sport dog. This is Duncan and he was a real gentleman and so handsome 😍

Extreme heat warning ⚠️ A reminder that with the heat wave this week its important to keep our pets safe. Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening. Paws will burn from hot pavement. Avoid excercise or excessive time spent outdoors with your dog during the heat of the day and provide plenty of cool water and shade. Use fans and keep your pets in air conditioning you have it. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN CARS! Cars can reach over 100 degrees in minutes. Please leave your pet at home. Wild life will also be affected so leave a bowl of water for birds, insects and other small wildlife. Watch for heat stroke in your pet and educate yourself on the signs, such as excessive panting, drooling or dizziness. Seniors and puppies and kittens are especially vulnerable. Be safe everyone, summer has begun!

Such a handsome guy! This is Zeus and he is a Ragdoll. This breed is known for being quite floppy (or limp like ragdoll) when being held and are very affectionate. A large cat, but with a sweet temperament. Ragdolls are a favorite among cat fanciers 😍🥰🤩

I have been asked how do I find a good groomer?

Well...........here's a fact. Did you know the pet grooming industry is not regulated?

Anyone can call themselves a dog groomer, and sadly some one with no experience can legally provide services on your pet without any training or experience. 😳

So how do pet owners ensure the safety of their pets when searching for a dog groomer?

Here are some tips

EDUCATION 🤓

Dog grooming, is a hard job requiring hours of education and often years of mentoring. A professional groomer will have taken a course in grooming. This certification demonstrates that the groomer has put in the hours and passed all require courses and safety training. Ask, where did they receive their training? How many years of experience do they have? Do they have examples of their work? Can you visit the salon?

INSURANCE 🤑

Animals are dangerous, and working with animals is dangerous. Insurance is not only necessary but it also ensures that the salon is covered should an accident occur. If your dog gets injured, is the salon well insured to cover vet costs should it be required.

EQUIPMENT 🔧

Equipment should be clean, and maintained. Scissors , blades and nail clippers should be sharp and disinfected. A professional will use high end shears and clippers , tables and tubs. Professional shampoo and sprays are also used to ensure the health and safety of your pet.

ANIMAL SAFETY HANDLING AND TRAINING 🐶

Groomers need to have education in safe dog handling and behavior. Do they know how to handle a dog that could be aggressive or wiggly? Do they understand and have knowledge of breed behavior? Do they know basic dog training and stress signals?

Do they ask for vaccinations? Vaccinated dogs help stop the spread of disease and protect the salon and your pet.

FIRST AID TRAINING 🏨

A professional salon will have first aid training for canines. Accidents can happen are they prepared to provide first aid until a vet can see the pet?

CATS 🐈

Cat grooming is a specialized skill even among professionals. As a professional pet groomer who offers cat grooming, even nail trimming, they should be certified or have at the very least taken cat grooming seminars. They should be educated on cat handling. Ask about any cat grooming experience they may have.

And finally remember a professional groomer is not cheap. 😉 they have the education, experience and skills to provide your pet the best experience. They are an important part to your pets health and well being and we do this work because we absolutely love it ❤

Poodles are beautiful!! Dont let the fancy haircuts fool you. Poodles are playful, sensitive, intelligent dogs who are game for anything. Originally a retriever for hunting water fowl, this breed is one of the most versatile breeds to date. They do it all, from hunting to agility, service work, obedience, and a happy family companion. The hair coat is only a small part of what makes the poodle a favorite among groomers! 🥰 These girls are showing two ways of many that you can groom a poodle. There are hundreds of different ways to groom this happy breed 😁

Did you know its a myth that poodles and doodles don't shed! Just like all breeds, poodles do shed, however unlike natural coated dogs, such as Goldens or Labradors the hair doesn't drop onto your floors, but rather stays trapped in the thick curls.

This can cause matting if you don't brush and comb your poodles/doodles regularly and as you can see from my brush, all that loose dead hair that you would normally see on your rugs and floors is collected on my brush. Doodles are marketed as hypoallergenic or non shedding, but in fact doodles have between a 50% to an 80% chance of producing a normal shedding coat, especially if doodle is crossed with a natural coat. Think of it this way..the more curls the dog has the coat will drop less but need frequent haircuts, a wavy coat will shed more but may need less haircuts or not as short of a haircut due to the natural coat mixed in.

The labradoodle in the second picture shed twice as much as the first picture of the black poodle. Remember that if you get a dog that has poodle in it it will still shed!! It will still cause allergies! Doodles and poodles are high maintenance dogs with a grooming schedule of every 4 to 6 weeks to maintain all that fluff.

Like all dogs they do need frequent brushing to remove dead coat. When searching for your next dog ask a groomer about coat type. We know and understand the different coat types and we know our breeds! Both of these dogs were perfect angels 😇 💖 and both recieved a haircut.
