This is Cheese 🧀 She is a 5 year old African Clawed Frog. Cheese is just a young girl as this species can live up to 30 years! She is fully aquatic and does not have a tongue!! They use their front feet to scoop food into their mouths. This species is also nocturnal, which means they rest during the day and are active at night.

Did you know that October is National Veterinary Technologist Month? Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) are essential professionals in the veterinary profession, contributing immensely to the health and safety of animals. RVTs play a key role in ensuring the safety and health of our beloved pets and livestock, from the tiniest little mouse to the furry, feathered, hooved and scaled.

We send out a huge Thank You to our RVTs Kat, Natalie, Bella, Kirstie, Ceiba, Dawn and Emily (RVT Student). We also want to acknowledge our wonderful tech assistants Teddy, Rayne, Alex, JJ, Roman, Katia and Oyin. We sure couldn't help pets everyday with out these wonderful team members.

Canyon 🖤🤎, Frankie 🐶 and Sushi 🐱 invite you to come and try out our Do-It-Yourself Photo Booth. Pop by anytime during clinic hours to take a fun and festive photo of your pets. Tell your family and friends as they do not need to be a patient of the clinic to use the booth! Please don't worry, if you need help posing, holding or taking a photo we are here to assist you! We will even provide the Photo Bribe snacks!

This little nugget is Murphy Jane. 🖤🧡 She wants everyone to know that we have a fall themed photo booth at the clinic. We should be finished setting it up today and it will be open for use tomorrow!! Fall/Thanksgiving will be the theme for this week, and then we will change to a spoooky Halloween theme 👻🎃

Tudor Team Pet Profile

Dianne is one of our wonderful RVT's and she hatched these adorable chicks herself. Hatching takes 21 days. For the first 18 days, the eggs are rotated and tilted three times in an incubator set to 37.7C. On the last 3 days the humidity in the incubator is increased and the lid is closed. NO PEEKING for 3 days!! In this batch of 24 eggs, 9 chicks hatched. This is why they say "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" 🐣

This mixture of heritage breeds will lay brown and blue-green eggs.

This little man is Melvin. Melvin is a super handsome sphinx. Just like most of the cats that we love, Melvin loves to be with his people. Sometimes this can cause a problem when his people are in the kitchen and the stove is on. Poor Melvin burnt his paw pad on the hot element. He had a burnt skin pad that we cleaned and soaked and he was an absolute trooper though it all!!

Thermal burns are caused by exposure to, or direct contact with, excessive heat. The most common thermal burns in cats are burned paw pads from jumping onto a stovetop. Other exposures are electric heating pads, fire, boiling water, heat lamps, and vehicle engines.

The burn that occurs can vary, depending of course, on how hot the stove was at the time, as well as how long the cat leaves their paw on the burner. The result can range from a First-Degree burn which involves only the outermost skin layer, to a Third-Degree burn which would affect all layers of the skin as well as the underlying tissues. The full extent of the injuries may take up to three days to develop and during this time the injury can continue to progress.

The treatment depends on the type of burn, severity of injury, and location. Please provide your veterinarian with as much information as possible such as the source of the burn, length of exposure and any home treatments you may have provided before your appointment.

We are happy to report that Melvin is doing well and will soon be completely healed!!
