It's hot out there! Make sure you're keeping your furry friends safe in this heat!
Make sure your pets have access to plenty of water. Keep walks to earlier in the morning or later in the evening and be careful on the sidewalks/pavement as it can burn their paws. And don't leave your pets in the car! Even a few minutes can result in unsafe temperatures 🥵
Signs of heat stroke in animals include excessive panting, drooling, restlessness or agitation, increased heart rate, and vomiting or diarrhea.
Stay cool out there everyone!

We had plenty of Oilers spirit at the clinic today! Of course Ralph led the game day effort (as he always does).
Our rehab team also had an extra set of hands with a physio student joining us for the day- thanks to all our clients for helping us show him how awesome animal rehab is!

Everyone loves beautiful flowers.
On this Easter weekend, we want people to be aware that some of the things we love are incredibly toxic to the 4 legged family members we love.
Every part of the Lily is toxic to cats and they can develop acute kidney failure very quickly.
If you have cats, think about bringing a feline friendly flower arrangement into your home instead.
If your cat comes into contact with a lily, immediately contact your veterinarian or nearest emergency clinic.

Did you know that when your pet is under anesthesia they cannot regulate their own body temperature?
We endeavor to take every precaution possible when your pet is under anesthesia. One of the precautions we take is using convective warming to help your pet regulate their body heat.
Ralph thinks this is a wonderful idea… asleep OR awake!

Incoming Cold Snap! 🥶
We are heading towards some frigid temperatures as the week goes on.
Please take extra precautions with your pets.
While some pets can't get enough of the snow, others would rather avoid it.
Please be aware of your pet's tolerance for cold weather and adjust accordingly.
During freezing cold snaps, consider keeping your pets indoors. If you are out for a walk watch for signs such as lifting their feet high off the ground, licking feet for ice buildup, shivering, shaking, whining or appearing anxious.
Pets are vulnerable to frostbite just like us. Watch carefully for signs of frostbite on ears, paws, nose and tip of tail. Frostbite can be hard to detect. These areas initially will turn a reddish color and then turn grey or bluish.
If you suspect your pet has frostbite please see your veterinarian immediately.
Stay safe and keep warm!

Ralph wants to remind everyone to be very careful this weekend with your pets and Christmas decorations and treats.
Wires on Christmas lights, if your pet likes to chew on things, tinsel, ribbon and Christmas goodies are fun and exciting for us but can be bad and even dangerous for them.
Keep an eye on your fur family and keep things out of reach as you enjoy your Holiday weekend.

This week we are introducing you to our RVT Michelle!
Michelle is a wonderful member of our team and has a German shepherd/pitbull cross named Bunnie and two domestic, longhair cats named Oreo and Sirius. Michelle loves spending time at the lake, shooting pool, taking Bunnie to the park and snuggling with her pets. She is also very involved as a critter foster mom and loves helping pets find their forever homes.

Leeann has been a Registered Veterinary Technologist for many years and loves the profession.
You may have met her if you came in to drop off your pet for an ultrasound as she loves and specializes in this diagnostic.
Leeann has a pup and a cat... both named Louie and Louey! She also has two granddaughters; Klara and Antonia and several grand fur-babies.
