Greetings, I would like to bring attention to all of my fellow Canadians that the sustainability of goat farming in Canada is at a high risk of perishing. Since 2022, CFIA has closed the borders for importing new breeding genetics.

We need these new breeding genetics from the US in order to sustain our herds. If we are not able to introduce diversified genetics within a very short time frame we will see higher levels of inbreeding, deformation, difficult kidding, low immunity, low performance and a host of other issues.

I have filed a petition to the House of Commons with the support of MP Claude DeBellefeuille and breeders across Canada to urge CFIA to review its importation policy and overall sustainability of goat farming in Canada.

We need 500 votes to move the petition forward and I am seeking your vote to support the petition.

Thank you Ian and Barbie for coming to Evaluate our herd yesterday. It is always an amazing learning day. I find that this program really helps to keep the rose colored glasses clear when looking at my herd. There were some I was pleasantly surprised that went Excellent yesterday and a few that I had though would get higher scores than what they did. The thing with classifying it is not just about the final score on the sheet, it is the break down of the sheet that helps with future selections to improve the herd. Many goats as they mature will get higher scores if they have a good solid structure. Some of our goats that were evaluated at VG85 in 2022 this year scored Excellent. I am pretty proud of where our genetic started from almost 25 years ago compared to where they are today.
