The holiday season 🎄 is also the time of year that we start bring plants into our homes. They get cold too!😉 But we always have to think about our 4 legged family members. We all know how much cats and dogs love to be involved with plants. The most common POISONOUS plants we see are Poinsettias and Amaryllis.

Wh**ey is happily playing outside and not worried about fleas and ticks because he is on bravecto that protects him for 3 months

The answer is both of them are at risk!

Oakley is at risk because he lives in an apartment building with carpets, so fleas can come in under the door. Fleas can also live in the carpet for 3 months. That's not even counting the eggs and other life stages of fleas! BUT Oakley is safe because he is on Bravecto which kills fleas and ticks for 3 months.

2) Wh**ey who lives in a house and plays outside?

Here at Fairview we loving giving back to pets who are less fortunate then the very loved patients we get to see every day. For the second year in a row we will be partnered with Merck Animal Health who is running the Heart To Paws campaign. For the month of October we will be accepting pet sweaters, dog booties, collars, blankets and leashes to be donated to animal shelters across Canada.

How Can I Prevent Dental Disease in My Pet?
The key to management of gum disease (for humans or pets!) is prevention.
As long as the surfaces of the teeth are cleaned frequently, the gums will stay healthy. Excellent oral health is maintained by daily oral hygiene. The gold standard is brushing. Daily chewing activities can also be effective in maintaining oral health. Daily use of products that have been awarded the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOCH) Seal will help to keep your pet’s teeth clean and the gum tissues and bone around the roots healthy.
VOHC recommends periodic veterinary examination of the mouth and teeth of your dog or cat. Many pets, particularly middle-aged and older cats and dogs, require periodic professional scaling in addition to on-going plaque control.
Regular use of products awarded the VOHC seal of acceptance will reduce the severity of periodontal disease in pets
