Does your dog like to play with balls? Do they ever get really excited and nearly choke on it? Some dogs DO choke on the ball. This life saving procedure should be known by every pet owner.

If this terrible event were to happen:
- place your dog on their back
-pull their arms down and straddle your dog
- place your thumbs at the base of the ball ( usually you can see it bulging at the end of the jaw bone)
-use both thumbs to PUSH the ball forward and release it

It's impossible to PULL out and PUSHING the ball out this way will allow you to dislodge it.

Please see our previous post about how owners often mistake a COUGH for choking or something being stuck in the throat.

If you believe your dog is choking on something else here are some tips:
- you can swipe the back of their mouth with your finger ( careful not to be bitten)
-the heimlich also can be done on dogs
-coupaging or using cupped hands to thump/thud your dog's chest from both sides to PUSH air up and out of the lungs could dislodge the object.

This week is dedicated to celebrating those who provide client service in hospitals.

Veterinary receptionists are often an owner's first and last point of contact during a visit. Without their multitasking skills and overall kindness our operations would come to a halt. We are forever thankful for their service to animals and our practice.

Celebrate with us and feel free to drop a note of thanks to our front desk team in the comments! 🥳

We are excited to announce we are now equipped to offer stall-side platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for our equine patients!

PRP is obtained by processing your horse's blood to remove most of the red and white blood cells. The remaining portion is rich in platelets which contain growth factors that can help to reduce inflammation and stimulate the body's natural healing response. PRP can be used to treat injured tendons, and also arthritic joints without the side effects or drug withdrawal times needed for intra-articular steroids.

Reach out to our team for further information and pricing. Stay tuned for availability in our canine friends too!

Appropriately trimmed nails are so important for mobility and comfort in our pets!
It's a bonus when they consider it a spa day and relax in some comfortable caring arms for their pedicure.

Sometimes pedicures require a *special* holding technique! 🥰

Rylee had just finished his VSMT treatment with Dr. Colwell and he needed his nails trimmed to help with his mobility. He is always such a good boy! 🐶

Do your tick checks

Did you know that ticks become active at 4°C?

Need a reason to visit us? Parasites are ALWAYS active. One of the best ways to avoid frequent appointments is to focus on prevention. Fleas and ticks hide in tall grass and dead leaves, but they can also cling to your pet if they come into contact with other animals or carpets.

It’s not just the summer that you have to beware of parasites!
