Pet Insurance Tip! Getting insurance in place when you first get your pet can be beneficial. In most cases, they haven’t yet developed any conditions or health issues that would increase premiums or prevent coverage for those conditions in the future. You’re more or less starting from a clean slate, plus, you know they’re covered from the get-go!

Question: Is Bordetella (sometimes called kennel cough) the same as Canine Influenza?

While both can affect your dog’s respiratory system, Canine Influenza is causedby a virus, whereas Bordetella is caused by bacteria, often Bordetella bronchiseptica. Unlike Bordetella, Canine Influenza often spreads before symptoms appear and can make your dog feel much sicker.

Both are highly contagious and can spread through contact with an infected dog or through objects such as food and water bowls, toys, balls, etc. Vaccinations can protect your dog from Canine Influenza and Bordetella, so it’s best to speak with their veterinarian about ways to keep them protected, especially if they frequent areas where dogs gather, such as dog parks, boarding facilities, and pet events.

Take a look at the most common signs for Canine Influenza and Bordetella. If you notice any of these signs, it’s best to contact their veterinarian.

🐾✨ Innovation at Avenue Animal Hospital! ✨🐾

We’re excited to now offer Virtual Veterinary Appointments – right here in our clinic! 💻🐶🐱

Here’s how it works:
✔️ You and your pet come into our hospital as usual
✔️ Our Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) will be with you in person
✔️ The veterinarian joins by secure video call to consult directly with you and your pet

This innovative service allows us to do nearly everything an onsite vet can – from checkups, prescriptions, and medical advice to vaccines and treatments with the support of our skilled RVT.

It’s a new way to connect with your vet, reduce wait times, and keep your pet’s care seamless and accessible. 💙🐾

📞 Call us at 506-633-1885 to book your virtual vet appointment today!

Because at Avenue Animal Hospital, caring for pets comes first – no matter where you are. 💙🐾

Does your pup have a habit of chewing on household objects or eating things they shouldn't? If so, there’s a chance your dog may experience an intestinal blockage - when something blocks their intestines. In dogs, the most common cause of an intestinal blockage is foreign objects like toys, clothing, bones, or rocks getting stuck in the digestive tract, that can lead to complete or partial obstruction.

Take a look at the most common signs of an intestinal blockage. If you suspect your dog has a blockage, it’s important to contact their veterinarian or an emergency hospital right away.
