New puppy alert!

After years of being pet free, we are so excited that our RVT Mandy has got herself a new baby!

She's sweet, she's bouncy and oh so naughty, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Everyone say hello to Fiona!

⚠️⚠️⚠️Attention⚠️⚠️⚠️

It is summertime again, which means it's hot out, and what better to do on a hot day than take your dog for a swim?

Unfortunately, this weather also means blue-green algae will be in the waters again. It is important to keep yourself and your pets safe. Avoid letting them swim or drink from water with blue-green surface blooms. Consider bringing bottled water with you on walks.

Blue-green algae causes severe neurological symptoms, including seizures and paralysis, and often, death. There is no known cure for the toxin, only intense supportive care.

You can check for latest blue-green algae advisories here:

https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/ocmoh/health_advisories.html

Despite the warning, we understand that sometimes accidents happen. If you suspect your dog has come into contact with blue-green algae, or any strange symptoms arise after a swim, please bring them to the nearest emergency vet immediately.

For summer travelers, here's some new information that you need to know if you're bringing your pups with you to the US.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) recently announced that they will be updating regulations on the importation of dogs into the US. These regulation changes will impact Canadian travelers entering the US with their pet dogs.

Beginning August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the US must:

• Appear healthy upon arrival
• Be at least 6 months of age
• Be microchipped
• Have a CDC Dog Import Form online submission receipt

Please note that this form will not be made available until July 15th, 2024. The additional documentation required will vary depending on where the dog has been in the 6 months before entering or returning to the US, and on the rabies vaccination status.

Since this is a new procedure, you should give yourself at least 30 days for the submission to be completed.

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).

Today is National Specially-abled Pets Day! It's a day that is to highlight the needs of pets with disabilities.

We have a few pets in the FAH family that have special needs. Today, we'll talk about Kronk. We all love him with his big cheeks and VERY unique personality! Kronk is the furbaby of our RVT Rebekah and this is a bit about him in her words.

Kronk has spina bifida, or "manx syndrome." It gets its name because of its prevalence in the manx cat breed. It's most often seen in manx or other bobtailed cats with little to no tail. Spina Bifida can cause a range of symptoms, often leaving cats completely urinary and f***l inconvenient. Many require manual expression. Kronk's whole litter had crooked, short tails, but he is the only one affected as far as I am aware. Thankfully, Kronk has very mild symptoms. He does not require any manual expression, but he does dribble urine. Because of this, he has to wear diapers and be monitored closely for urine scalding and diaper sores. He's a lot of work, and sometimes a bit stinky haha, but I wouldn't change a thing about him.

Once again we get to boast about the amazing women we have working here at Fundy Animal Hospital on our Front Line. What these ladies do on a daily basis requires many hats and they wear them with pride and ease. Thank you for being kind, compassionate, and patient to not only all the patients and people who walk in the door, but to the whole team. Next time you're in, please say a big THANK YOU to Lani, Kelly, Carissa, Stacy, Sara and Patti for being the best of the best. We heart you. ❤

October is here and we are so excited to celebrate RVT month with our amazing team of Technicians!

Techs do the job of many within a day: phlebotomists, anesthesiologists, run the bloodwork, urinalysis and our favourite, f***l analysis! They provide compassionate care to you and your pets and ensure every visit is positive for your animal. They do all of this and so much more while supporting the veterinarians in whatever they need, whenever they need.

Our team is the cream of the crop, the jewels in the crown, the top dogs, and all wonderful things. Tash, Mandy, Taylor, Rebekah, Natalie and Deb. Thank you so much for all you do at Fundy. We pawsitively love you all!
