For summer travelers, here's some new information that you need to know if you're bringing your pups with you to the US.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) recently announced that they will be updating regulations on the importation of dogs into the US. These regulation changes will impact Canadian travelers entering the US with their pet dogs.
Beginning August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the US must:
• Appear healthy upon arrival
• Be at least 6 months of age
• Be microchipped
• Have a CDC Dog Import Form online submission receipt
Please note that this form will not be made available until July 15th, 2024. The additional documentation required will vary depending on where the dog has been in the 6 months before entering or returning to the US, and on the rabies vaccination status.
Since this is a new procedure, you should give yourself at least 30 days for the submission to be completed.
Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).
