Symptoms depend on the amount of theobromine ingested. Mild symptoms can include lethargy and gastrointestinal upset. Severe side effects can include a racing heart, abnormal behaviour, sedation, hyperexcitability, or seizures.

Today we want to talk about puppy personalities! 🐶
All puppies start to develop a noticeable personality at 7-8 weeks old. They each have different traits that make up their personalities, and their personalities can be organized into personality types just like us! Their personality type will be most noticeable when playing with other puppies or meeting strangers.
It's important to know your puppy's personality to bond with them, as well as for training. Being able to understand what makes them happy or upset is a helpful tool!
Some examples of puppy personality types are laidback, confident, free-spirited, and sweet-natured.

Today we want to talk about one of the reasons your dog may sleep with their eyes open! 🐶💤
It's actually completely normal for your dog's eyes not to fully close when they're sleeping. There are lots of reasons why this happens, one of them being that they're dreaming! 😴
When your dog is dreaming, they dream in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep just like us! This is when they process things like memories and emotions which causes them to have vivid dreams. ☁️
During this time, their eyes may open slightly and move as they sleep. This is normal! It just means they're deeply asleep and relaxed. 🤍
The speed of their eye movements depends on the dream they're having! Their eyes may move faster if they're dreaming about playing with a toy, and slower if they're dreaming about cuddling you.

A little over a year ago, we had a patient with a bot fly larvae, and recently we had another client with one 😱 They're not very common, and commonly found on farms.

Well this isn't something we see everyday 😱 This poor cat had a bot fly living under their skin, which can be very irrating and itchy for them. Thankfully Dr.Bell got it out no problem, and has since made a full recovery! 🥰

I am sure we can all agree that the beautiful summer weather is a great motivation to get outside and keep physically active with our pets! But, it is so important to keep in mind that keeping our pets mentally active/stimulated is equally as important!!
Keeping their minds engaged on a regular basis can be a very helpful technique in preventing boredom, and potentially destructive behaviors that may come along with that. These behaviors can manifest as things such as chewing on inappropriate household items. Some great ways to keep our pets engaged are teaching new tricks and purchasing treat/food puzzles for our pets to play with and work through 😊
