S A N T A P A W S
As they looked to the skies,
on that cold Christmas Eve
they imagined the sight
of all they’d ever believed.
Santa was travelling,
on his gift-laden sleigh
‘Westie’ could barely believe
he was now on his way.
They imagined what it would be like to be sleigh pulling reindeer;
“we could do that” said ‘Cocker’, ‘Dalmatian’ said “no, dear
for we are but six, very small pups,
we don’t have the strength to fly and rein up.”
…”besides (said ‘Terrier’) and as it goes,
we don’t have antlers or a shiny red nose!”
‘Cocker’ and ‘Retriever’ were so mesmerised,
they couldn’t take their glazed eyes off the magical skies.
They could still see Santa in his cherry red suit
and a sack-full of presents piled high for the route.
They wondered if they’d been nice or naughty;
when ‘Dalmatian’ woofed
it would “soon be 8:40!”
So, to their beds they should really now hurry,
cosy and warm from the fresh fallen flurry.
Waiting for Santa to whoosh past their window
gently padding home, leaving prints in the snow.
What a glorious sight they had seen in the skies,
it really was a delightful surprise
to see Santa and his reindeer - Rudolph lighting the way -
safely delivering gifts
to all pups
for Christmas Day.
