THE AGILITY FUN EVENT AT THE KENNELS IS NO POSTPONED UNTIL SATURDAY 17TH AUGUST.
Same time, same place but hopefully with lots of sunshine!
Extra stuffy buddies are allowed on the group walks. This dog never goes anywhere without one. lol
One of our regulars who loves to carry his sticks!!!!! But even having a stick can have it challenges on the woodland trails.
When people ask me questions about the kennels its sometimes hard to explain. So yesterday l cam up with the idea of doing a tour of the kennels and outside grounds that should help people get a better idea .
If anyone does want to do a personal viewing please remember that viewing is BY APPOINTMENT only that needs to be booked a few days notice.
When you cant stand upon the ice on the snow (or you fall through it because its to soft) but need to give the dogs in the boarding kennels some exercise. This is where my faithful little friend really loves her job, she is quiet happy to give the other dog a few tugs to keep him moving. LOL
Thats what i call one smart dog. After a huge snow event yesterday Bramhs knew it was easier to go along the tree line to get through the snow. Every other dog l have ever walked on the trails just ploughs through the heavy snow drifts even when its almost as high as their heads.
When the snow is to soft and mushy to make it to slippery up on the trails with two dogs on leash, then the next best answer to let them drain some energy is to use the outdoor fenced area. I think it worked for these two, they had a blast.
Maverick is one of the dogs in for the Christmas holidays. This is his first time off leash. I took my own dog (border collie) with him on the walk so she can show him the route we usually take, however from the video it looks like Maverick would prefer the other route, lol. We did manage to get it sorted after this and had a awesome off leash trail walk , he should be ready for a rest after all the running around.
We had 3 doodles in last week, so it was meet and greets in the play yard. They all bonded together very well. The odd one out is our regular herding dog (Seiya) that has been coming to the kennels for many years. she like to make supervise to make sure they dont have to much fun .Lol
JUST HAD TO ADD THIS ONE BECAUSE IT MAKES ME SMILE..A few weeks ago in the tricks class we taught the dogs to do a roll over, then this week because they were at ease with lying on their sides we added the "bang" your dead command. Tracey sent me this one she called it the "slow death" because Jessie the boxer took her time before she pretended to play dead. I am so sad the classes have finished for a while because next we could have taught her to get up and limp with a front paw in the air just so she could get a "awahh" from the audience.
JESSIE THE BOXER DOG WITH A BIG HEART....yes that I the way her owner Tracey described her when she contacted me last year, but what she also put in her email to me was that she was seriously considering rehoming her because of all the stress she was causing in the household, her worst crime was her frantic jumping at anyone, child or adult that came into the home, she would jump up and steal hats/gloves from children as they wore them, the children couldn't play with toys in her presence because she would steal the toy and run away with it. Her manners around visitors caused so much frustration that she would need to be put away shortly after their arrival. The owners had tried all sorts of treat based ideas to get her to stop jumping but nothing so far was working. So together last year Tracey and I stated with some one on one training which brought about some big improvements in Jessies behavior , then when the owners took a holiday later in the year I had her here at my kennels for some personal training. It worked well and Jessie made some more big changes for the better. Tracey sent me this video this week to let me know she is still doing well, watch the video and notice how attentive Jessie now is and notice how she looks at her owner before the ball is thrown, without learning the look (focus control) Jessie would just have launched herself at the toy, now she knows if she waits and looks for directions from her owner then good things will happen . Now she has a home for life, no one is considering rehoming her, keep up with the good work Tracey.
OBEDIENCE CLASSES, hopefully gone are the days of walking round and round in circles with your dog, things have moved on and now training is much more fun. Here is a copy of a email I received from one of my students in my second level class, she did the basics in level 1 and in level 2 we are introducing operant conditioning with the use of a clicker, read on and see what she has to say.......... OMG Caroline!!!!, I taught Louie the "target " game (making sure not to lure or hint to him what I wanted him to do!!) and Louie figured it out pretty quickly!!!, 2 sessions and he knew putting a paw on the Becel butter container equals getting a treat. So I wondered if the same technique would work on making him jump a hurdle-in this case a Swifer mop-(to prepare him for the agility classes), And it worked!!!. Since he figured it out pretty quickly how the game worked, he got the idea that I wanted him to go over the hurdle! So I started with the mop on the floor, and waited for him to walk over it! The little by little, raised the ante!! Hahahah!!!. Now he is comfortably jumping over the handle!! I'm so proud of my baby!! Cant wait until next class!!! Your obedience classes Rock Caroline!!! Thank you so much!!! , from Julie and Louie
