1️⃣ Giving the dumbbell when your dog isn’t calm and focused.
2️⃣ Failing to section your movements, so your dog can’t predict your actions.
3️⃣ Not providing clear feedback on what’s right and wrong.
4️⃣ Skipping subtle helps to guide and deepen communication.
5️⃣ Praising at the wrong moments or with the wrong tone of voice.
In this video, I demonstrate how to avoid these mistakes during a dumbbell holding exercise. Voitto sits calmly, fully focused on the toy under my chin as I give him the dumbbell. My movements are calm, intentional, and well-sectioned – making it clear for him to follow.
I provide continuous feedback to show Voitto what I want and prevent mistakes with subtle feedback like a gentle pull on the dumbbell rope. While he’s focused, I stay calm and quiet, then shift to wild, fun energy for the reward.
The ability to switch emotions and communicate clearly with your body language is a game-changer in dog training! 🎯
