I think this is a GREAT idea!

May long weekend reminder for all of us campers! Jot down your campsite # and cell on a dollarstore tag, and attach to your pupper’s collar with other tags. Even the most responsible of us can have a doggo who slips a leash or gets startled and bolts. Even if no cell service in the camp area, this allows other to bring the rascally runner back to your site.

Good morning friends. I will be offline for the weekend, as I'm going to visit my sister in Toronto, and I'm not taking my laptop.

Treu wanted to take a second to thank you for booking most of Doug's week up next week, but she wanted to let you know there are still a few spaces open, before his next surgery. They are as follows:

Wednesday, May 8th at 10 am; and
Friday, May 10th at 10 am.

Doug will be out until May 27th, returning to regular hours, and there is nothing currently booked for that week back. Hit him up!

My afternoon involved meeting my new friend, Lexi. She is also a former puppy mill Momma, who has a fantastic family who loves her very much. Even though she's been out of the puppy mill for a few years, she's still quite nervous, so Mom warned me to watch her, especially in the bath.

Lexi also has some skin issues going on, so Mom supplied the medicated shampoo from the vet to use. We did, but next time I'd like to wash her in some of my shampoos and conditioners to help with her skin moisture level. The vet shampoo is great, and will help minimize irritation, but it just doesn't have enough stuff in it to really help the skin quickly get moisture.

I spoke with Mom and we're going to do that next time. I think using my shampoo first to really help moisturize her skin, and then the vet shampoo to strip away any residue, will go a long way to helping her skin heal a tad faster.

My day today started with another old friend coming back to visit! My friend, Banjo, was due for his spring groom, and when Mom saw that I was back to grooming, she asked if I would take Banjo back. As you can see, I happily said yes!

Remember what I said about Golden Retrievers having a problem getting matts in behind their ears? Yeah, well that's really a thing, but, Banjo's family has been so good with their maintenance that not only were there no matts behind his ears, I don't think I found any knots to speak of anywhere in his coat!

Yes, clearly he had a ton of fur still in his coat that really needed brushing out. Banjo is like every other dog at this time of year in that regard. But there were no knots. Deep in against the skin Banjo had all the lumps of dead fur that hadn't gotten matted yet, and they would have soon, but Mom did a great job of keeping them at bay until his spring groom.

Great job, Mom and Dad! You ROCK!

My new little friend, Scout came by yesterday to get a good groom going, and it was wonderful to meet her! Scout is a young Cocker Spaniel / Poodle mix girl, and she's a little shy and tender.

We just took our time, and with some patience from both of us, we got Scout done without too much drama. Her coat was in pretty rough shape, so I wasn't sure how much I could save, but happily, we managed to save her a decent seasonally appropriate length!

Ivar came in Friday to hang out with me for a while, and it was a good time.

Ivar is definitely more to handle than Daisy (he'll be 2 in August), but he's still a very nice boy. He's just young and busy. ;)

Daisy came to visit last Friday, and it was so nice to spend some time with her. She's recently been adopted by a nice family, and I'm looking forward to building a friendship with her.

Daisy's family adopted one of my foster dogs over a decade ago, so when they contacted me asking if I would groom their two Golden Retrievers, I jumped at the chance!

Daisy's brother, Ivar, came in when she was finished and ready to go home.

Daisy was a very good girl for me, and I would totally work with her again anytime!

New foster girl, Millie, came for a visit to get cleaned up, and what a doll she is! I don't know her past, but I'm guessing she was loved, because she's just the sweetest lady!

She's a little on the chunky side right now (which also suggests to me that she was VERY loved ;) ) but with a little more exercise and a bit of dieting in her foster home, she'll be svelte and gorgeous in no time at all.

I don't think Millie is yet available for adoption, but she's with Happy's Place- Retirement Home for Dogs. Watch their page for more information about this sweet, lovely lady.

Good luck on finding a great new home, Millie! Your new family will be very lucky to have you join them.

Clara came in for a little tidying up before her vet visit for a spay. She's recently been spring from a puppy mill situation, so she needs to feel fresh and clean to go with her new life as a beloved pet.

Clara is very shy and nervous, which is pretty typical of a former puppy mill momma. Clara did pretty well, overall. Someone had previously clipped Clara mostly short, so I didn't have to do much to her body. but her legs, feet and face really needed attention, so those were the areas of our focus.

Clara had some pretty wicked dry skin, so I made sure to leave her soaking in both the 2-in-1 conditioning shampoo, as well as some concentrated conditioner with Aloe Vera in it. By the time she was done and dry, she had no more dandruff left on her skin, and she no doubt felt a world better!

Clara isn't yet available for adoption, but when she is, I've no doubt a pretty little lass like her will get adopted quickly! Good luck in your new life, Clara!

My old friend, Ari, came in to see me, and it was so great to spend time with him again. I love having old clients come back to me, particularly when they're awesome little dudes like Ari.

As before, Ari was a good boy for me, and gave me no trouble at all. We put him into his summer length and cleaned up his face nicely, and got Ari back out the door to his Mom and Dad.

I made another new friend today, and her name is Zoe! She's a lovely little girl too, and the new big sister to Benji, whom I groomed last week.

She was a bit unsure at first, but was really great overall. 10 / 10 would work with her again!

I met a new friend today, and I adore her!

This is Priscilla, and she is a young, happy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

When Mom and I spoke this morning, she said she "wants her shorter, but not shaved." Okay, that's an easy mark to hit. When I asked about her furnishings, it was a similar response. That's less clear, but still achievable.

I hope Priscilla's Mom is happy with the results. It was another family member who collected Priscilla, so I'm not sure at this point. Her transportation person seemed pleased though, so one can hope. ;) I'd love to work with Priscilla again, so time will tell.

Thank you for coming to visit, Priscilla. You were a very good girl, and I enjoyed our time together very much.

Buddy came by on Friday for his every 6 week groom, and it was so nice to see him again!

I love it when former clients come back to see me, especially when they're as sweet and kind and good to work with, like Buddy.

Freshly rescued former puppy mill Mama, Sunny, can in for a fresh new 'do, to go with her fresh new life of freedom, comfort and love.

Sunny isn't quite ready to be adopted yet. She needs time to decompress, learn how to dog, and to get fixed so she isn't forced to have more puppies ever again.

Welcome to freedom, little girl. It's going to look so good on you!

Nikki came in for some grooming attention, and it was great to see her! She hitched a ride to work with me, as her folks just live one neighbourhood away from where my bus is currently parked.

While she and her brother, Neeson (yesterday's groom boy) look very similar, they are very different sizes! He's 114.8 pounds, and she's 77.6 pounds. They obviously have the same mother, and different fathers, as can happen in a litter of pups.

Regardless of their genetics, they are both lovely, sweet, kind dogs. They just happen to be big dogs. Really big, in Neeson's case. ;)

Thanks for being such an awesome girl, Nikki. I enjoyed our time together.

Neeson came to visit, and boy, oh boy, did he need a lot of work! We started about 9:30 with brushing, and I let him off my grooming table at 3:15 pm.

The poor dude was very tired by the time I finished, but you could feel his skin again, and you could run your fingers through his coat.

My apologies for the photo dump today, but I really needed to get caught up on my picture posting, specifically so I could get this dude posted!

May I introduce to you my new little friend, Benji (short for Benjamin). Benji is a recent rescue, and his new people, who have had him for only 5 days, knew he desperately needed some grooming attention.

His Grandpa lives just down the road from Raw For Pets, so he brought Benji in for me to groom. I'm so glad he did! I love all the dogs, but this little dude ... I fell head over heels for him, and if he hadn't been just rescued by a good family who obviously loves him to bits already, I'd have dog-napped him for myself.

Rolo was in yesterday for a spring cleaning, as his Dad is coming home this week, and his care-taker wanted to make sure he was fresh and clean for Dad.

As before, Rolo was a very good, but very vocal boy for his groom. We managed to get much more fur out of Rolo's coat this time, because of the time of year, so he should feel, and smell fresh for a good bit (barring any rolling he may do in the grass before Dad sees him.) LOL
