I love creating in the kitchen. I do not follow recipes well though, and rather fly by the seat of my pants. This often means I fail a lot 😂

Painful lessons learned last week, with beautiful local produce. Hard on my heart, and my wallet 🫠

I have a big market coming up in 5 weeks. Many of the vendors that are attending are creating beautiful, specific items for the event and I’ve put all kinds of pressure on myself to do the same to match the theme (🍓)

I was aiming for beautiful freeze dried whole strawberries, and a few with peanut butter drizzle. They were perfect when I bagged them up (thought they were ready) but had shrivelled up the next day 😭 so some had moisture still in them and were in fact, not ready.

I’m going to pop them in the air dryer and see if I can salvage them and still make a crunchy treat- 🤞🏼

If only Instagram could have a smell button- these dried strawberries smell UNREAL.

There’s a few new faces here, thought we’d reintroduce ours!

If you’re new here, welcome to our page. If you’ve been here a while, we appreciate you and thank you so much for the support 🫶🏼

As single ingredient treats and toppers have been gaining popularity and pet treat businesses have been popping up everywhere lately- we wanted to highlight a few key factors about our business that we believe makes us stand out from the crowds.

1. We are small, and we support small. It’s just myself and Rudy here, and I have to say he does a lot more taste testing than I’d like 😅. By supporting other small local businesses, we actually know our farmers that we get our ingredients from. We know their faces, and their names and the quality of their meats/produce because we are in constant contact with them and visit their properties often.

2. I pick up, clean, trim, scrub, and sort the ingredients prior to placing them in our dryer or freeze dryer. Once they’ve been processed, I sort, label and package our products, there is no middle man! With the help of I am able to utilize commercial grade equipment and kitchen space that a small business owner like myself, really couldn’t manage on my own.

3. Yes, we actually *m a k e* our treats. There are a ton of businesses that purchase white label wholesale treats, and repackage them as their own. We don’t do that here. Every product I offer has been in my hands. Roughly 1,000lbs since we sold our first bag of treats 😳

4. With every purchase, you are not only supporting many other local businesses within the community, but you are also helping my family in a big way. I started this business because I wanted better for Rudy. He continues to eats fresh, raw food thanks to your support. He gets well looked after at day care when I’m picking up extra work or working a long weekend of markets. I now have an emergency fund for Rudy. And started an education fund for my daughter.

My life long dream is to settle on a few acres, and while this side business of mine might not get us there, my family is grateful nonetheless.

A look into a typical meal for Ruds featuring our Broth’d Carrots, and dried organ mix!

Our freeze dried carrot treats have been gently cooked in fresh marrow broth, making a wholesome treat that benefits eye health, gut health as well as skin and coat! Serve as a topper or an occasional treat!

Our beef organ mix is a mix of gently dried, grass fed beef heart, kidney and liver. A gently dried mix of local grass fed beef organs consisting of liver, kidney and heart!

The process of recipe testing this round has been a labor of love, and while we haven’t figured out how to make this shelf stable yet, we know your pups are going to L O V E the freshness in every bite.

What are the benefits you ask?

Dehydrated organ meats contain dietary fiber that supports healthy digestion in dogs. This fiber helps regulate bowel movements and can alleviate common digestive issues, such as constipation or diarrhea!

The fiber in organ meats can also support a balanced gut microbiome, which is crucial for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. A well-functioning digestive system ensures that your dog can efficiently absorb nutrients from their food, leading to better overall health!

Organ meats should complement your dog’s regular diet, not replace it entirely. They are a supplement, not a staple. Serve our dehydrated organ meats as a treat or meal topper in appropriate portions based on your dog’s size, age, and activity level. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend less than 1/4 cup per 80lbs of pet weight. A little goes a looong way!

A little behind the scenes of processing our pork ears and lamb ears! Each ear is soaked in cold water, scrubbed, rinsed then placed in the dryer for a minimum of 38 hours 🐷🐑

❄️⚠️ Extreme Cold Warnings & Extreme Temperatures have taken over most of Canada 🇨🇦 Here are some temperature safe & stimulating enrichment ideas to prevent you and your dog from going crazy during this cold snap.

As the cold weather sets in for the next week or so, it's important to find safe activities to keep your dog mentally & physically entertained. Both Ry & Seeya love the snow & are troopers when it comes to colder temps. However Meeko is most thankful for heat, cozy dog beds, boots and chewies 😆

❄️ 1. Training Sessions. 📚
This is a great time to work on some of your trick training or to teach a new trick! Seeya is working on learning her “hold” There are tons of amazing free trick resources on the Do More With Your Dog Website. This is also a great time to work on different indoor skills like food impulse control games, door manners, go-to/stay on your bed, verbal cues, your “stay”, grooming/handling skills etc. Training is my favourite go to when it’s cold out as it checks the mental stimulation box!

❄️ 2. Puzzle Toys / DIY Puzzles/ Snuffle Mats 🧩
I just recently purchased my dogs a puzzle. (HomeSense has them for $15ish). They LOVE IT! You can also make your own puzzle toys by placing treats inside empty containers or wrapping them in towels. Treats rolled in towels etc. My favorite homemade puzzle is Chuck it balls in a muffin tin with cookies underneath. This challenges your dog's problem-solving skills and keeps them occupied. Remember to subtract these calories from their supper / breakfasts!

❄️ 3. Interactive food toys / frozen food toys. 🧀
This. This. This. I feed almost 100% of meals during cold snaps from interactive food toys or frozen food toys such as Kong of Topples. There are so many great frozen kong recipes or ways to prepare your dogs food in a frozen food toy. Frozen food toys take mealtime from 2 minutes to almost 45 minutes. Shhh I also cheat and tend to give more collagen style chews, water Buffalo cheek rolls, raw bones, various other favorite chews and bully sticks.

❄️ 4. Fitness & Conditioning 💪🏼
I realize for most of you I’m preaching to the choir. But I cannot say enough good things about working on your dogs fitness & conditioning. If you aren’t already in a fitness program - I highly recommend Lisa Petterson - Canine Fitness and Conditioning Coach. I love this because my dogs get physically exercised too! My dogs give Lisa 4 paws up.

❄️ 5. Hide and Seek/Nosework 🐾
Create a dog treasure hunt by hiding treats or toys around the house. This not only exercises their body but also stimulates their mind as they search for hidden goodies. If your dog plays in nosework - setting up indoor hides is another great activity.

❄️ 6. Rest 😴
Take this time to rest. Allow your dogs to recharge. Extra sleep and rest from our busy go go lives is so very important. This also allows their bodies to recover. Allowing dogs to have a full break from training, hiking, playing etc is very important both mentally & physically.

❄️7. Safe, Outdoor Exercise 🌲
If the temperatures and windchill allow - sneak in a quick 10-15 minute walk or play session! Toss some boots on your dog (if temps and your dog require them) as well as a coat and you’re set! My dogs are certainly much happier if we still sneak in a safe, outdoor walk. My dogs are happiest in their coats, and boots once we start hitting these temperatures. Every breed/dog is different- so as always do what is best & safe for your dog.

Stay warm and have fun with your dog. Hopefully by this time next week we all know a few more tricks, have better training skills, have learned a new game or two to play and are out hiking in the sun ☀️ Until then, happy training!

Dried chicken feet and chicken necks from Ravenwood Acres chickens!

Both are GREAT all natural chews that can be used as mental enrichment, and as an all-natural toothbrush to help scrape off tartar build up!

I was unfortunately not able to make these chews shelf stable. So you’ll have to store in fridge ( if you think your pup will finish them within 3 days) or store in freezer for up to a month!

Each bag of necks holds about 10
Each bag of feet hold about 8-10 depending on the size of each foot.

WHY YOU SHOULD INCLUDE HEART INTO YOUR PETS DIET

🤎Not only is it a delicious snack for 🐶 and 🐱, it is packed full of nutrients that works to support your pets overall health- unlike most pet treats that are on the shelves these days!

🤎Okay, B vitamins… let’s talk about those. Some common symptoms of B vitamin deficiency in your pets include; lethargy, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dull/thinning coat, mental dullness and even neurological issues. Grass fed vs Grain fed, what the beef?

🥩Beef from cattle that are not grain finished may be called ’grass fed’.

🥩Beef from cattle finished on a grain based diet may be referred to as ‘grain fed’.

🥩 All cattle eat forage for most of their lives by grazing out in pasture during summer months, or as feed when pasture is under snow in the winter. Forage includes grasses as well as legume plants such as clover and alfalfa.

🥩 As feed, forage will be fed to cattle dried as hay or as silage, a naturally fermented feed.

🥩At about 3 to 4 months before cattle go to market, cattle feed may be gradually adjusted to a diet that consists mainly of grains like corn or barley.

🥩The grain finishing process aids to fatten cattle up faster and get them to market sooner, and it quickly became a standard practice both in large-scale industrial operations and on local farms. There is nothing “bad” or “harmful” about grain finishing, but it does change the composition and flavour of the meat.

🥬 Why do we choose grass fed meats for our treats? 🥬

🥩In a recent study, with regards to fat, grass fed beef appears to be leaner 2-4g per 100g of trimmed meat. There were also some nutrient differences in Vitamin B (aids in metabolism, digestion and cognitive health), Calcium (maintains healthy bones/teeth), and Potassium (necessary for voluntary/involuntary muscle contraction).

🥩The result? Lean, high protein and highly nutritious treats that are guarantee to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters!
