To our amazing supportive community, we wanted to take this moment to share a very touching story with you.
We would like to introduce a resilient group of dogs who recently came to us from a tough situation. Their owner passed away and the 4 dogs were left to fend for themselves for months before our Animal Protection team was alerted.
Unfortunately, during this time, these dogs were not aware of just how dangerous vehicles could be and at one time or another all 4 were hit by cars.
After many attempts to catch this fearful crew of pups our Animal Protection Officers were finally able to get all of them into care.
Each had multiple broken and fractured bones, broken teeth, and wounds all over their bodies. Sadly, to add even more heartache, one of the dogs could not overcome the severity of his injuries. He crossed the rainbow bridge in peace, surrounded by his caring medical team.
Today we would like to highlight one particular superhero of the group!
Meet Sunny, otherwise known as Sunshine. Sunny is the most nervous of the group with a deep mistrust of humans - and we don’t blame him!. When he first arrived he had a broken front paw that he had been walking around on for months, his teeth were all broken and rotten and he was covered in scrapes, bumps and scars. Sunny required medical treatment for his broken leg and still requires a dental to remove his broken and rotten tooth.
What is really amazing is that during his recovery time Sunny really began to shine. He went from a scared and mistrusting dog to a much more confident and happy dog. He can run at full speed now and loves to play and be silly. Join us as we follow Sunny's path to adoption, and a new and amazing life.

🐾🐶 A Shuswap Love Story! 🐕🐕
Once upon a time in the magical land of puppy love, there were two young pups, DeeDee and Smarties. These little furballs had faced some ruff times in their short lives, but destiny had a plan in store for them.
DeeDee, a bundle of pure joy, was like a twinkling star from the moment she entered the world. She had been rescued from the fierce Shuswap fires. Smarties, a sweet and cautious boy, who'd seen a hard start coming from a large animal intake hoarding situation.
But fate was conspiring to unite these two soulmates. When their paths crossed, it was as if the universe itself had orchestrated their meeting. Love blossomed faster than you can say "cookie".
Smarties, once a bit of a recluse, found his guiding light in DeeDee. She showed him the way, teaching him the art of pawsitivity and courage. Under her warm influence, he learned to walk on a leash with style, make new friends, and boldly explore the wonders of life. Knowing Deedee was by his side as his guiding star, his cheerful mentor, and boy, is she amazing at it!
Our hearts hold a grand hope - that a loving home would appear, one with enough room in their hearts (and maybe on their couch) for this extraordinary duo.
Together, they promised double the love, double the fun, and enough tail wags to chase away even the stormiest of clouds.
If you're ready for twice the cuddles, twice the laughter, and twice the adorable antics, then DeeDee and Smarties are your dream team! Let's embark on a quest to find these two BFFs their fur-ever home, where their love story can continue to bloom.

Pet parents know that dental care is easier said than done, but dental health is critical to the overall health of pets. Some dog breeds develop dental disease earlier while other have their own unique problems 🐾. Check the link in bio for a look at dog breeds that are more prone to dental disease 🦷.

Join us again today at the Salmon Arm Winter Fun Fest from 10-8, for some wholesome shenanigans and family fun. Meet one of our adoptable friends and help us find the best name for our mascot!
This couch potatoe is Thomas and he is living his best life at the shelter. The only thing he would like to change is to live his best life in your home!!!
Thomas is a happy go lucky loving 3 year old puppy with a giant heart compacted into a small body. While he is good with other dogs his size and up, he truly just prefers to be with his human and have his human be with him.
If you're interested in Thomas check out his adoption summary here: adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/453133
Look at this adorable team of explorers that we just got in!
These bundles of floof are 4-month old Pyrenees/Akbash mixes. They will need a home with a lot of space for them to roam and job to keep them focused and content like farm or acreage with a 1 acre minimum, indoor/outdoor access, and a family that has large guardian breed experience and understands the costs, care, training, and welfare needs of these dogs.
They will be foster-to-adopt until they are spayed/neutered so please keep in mind that they will have to come back to Salmon Arm to for their appointments.
Keep an eye on the BCSPCA website as they will be going up for adoption in the next day or two!
If it's not the right time for you to adopt, but you are interested in helping. We are looking for fosters as well. Please fill out an application and reach out to our branch letting us know you are interested.
Santa came to our branch early this year and delivered us 8 wonderfully squishable and lovable packages.
Here's a little sneak peak ;) keep an eye on our website for when these lovelies go up for adoption in the next couple of days.
