Do you recognize this cat? It's been hanging around a property on Sir Echoes Way for a few years now and was brought in by a concerned property owner over possible severe matting. Unfortunately, the cat is very fearful and we couldn't find any identification. If you have any information that can help us locate its family, please reach out to the animal care centre at [email protected] or 250-537-2123. Thanks.

Have you met S'More?
This 2-3 year old snuggler has personality PLUS!

S'More seems to like everyone and is good with older children (8+ years). He is laid back, attentive and sometimes chatty.

He REALLY wants to play in between cuddle times and naps. He seeks out the attention of other cats. He LOVES his shelter mates but doesn't always understand "social cues" and could be A LOT for an older or docile kitty.

S'More spent a lot on time on the "mean streets of Salt Spring" and is ready for a quiet indoor home where he doesn't get in to trouble with the neighbours :)

If you are interested in meeting this lovely guy, please fill out an online pre-adoption questionnaire at https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/cat-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ or by visiting the branch during business hours (M-Th 11-4)

Smokey is a beautiful 11 year old gal who was transferred in from Port Alberni where she was found as a stray. After receiving much needed dental care, she made the road trip to Salt Spring in search of a new home.

She is a sweet cat with lots of charm and charisma! Smokey seems to want to be the only pet in her new home so she can have all the snuggles to herself. This Diva loves affection and will nudge you when she feels she needs more love.

Smokey does have a severe flea allergy so its important that she goes to an indoor only situation and receives regular parasite control.

If you are interested in meeting this wonderful feline, please fill out the online pre-adoption questionnaire at https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/cat-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ or by visiting her at the animal care centre during business hours (M-Th 11-4)

Miss Kitty Kat wants to know why you haven't come to visit with her yet! This lovely girl enjoys receiving attention and is ready for her furrever home. She is best suited for a home where she is the only pet. She would also thrive in a quiet indoor only home as she is still very timid and easily spooked. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out the online pre-adoption questionnaire at https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/cat-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ or visit the animal care centre during business hours.

When Coco, a 15-year-old teacup Yorkie, went missing near a busy street and river, her guardian feared the worst. Weighing just five pounds and struggling with poor eyesight and fading hearing, Coco was especially vulnerable to the dangers of traffic, wildlife, and the surrounding area. What followe...

With temperatures rising across the province, the BC SPCA is urging the public to remember the serious risks associated with leaving pets in hot vehicles.

“People underestimate how rapidly a vehicle can heat up to dangerous levels, putting animals at risk of fatal consequences,” says Eileen Drever, senior officer protection and stakeholder relations for the BC SPCA. “We also tend to miscalculate how long we’ll be away from our cars. We think we’re just running into the store for one item, but the line ups are long, we stop to chat with an acquaintance, and five minutes turns into half an hour or more while your pet suffers in the heat.”

Even a few minutes in a hot car can be life-threatening for animals. Drever explains that dogs don’t sweat to cool themselves down like humans do, which causes their body temperature to rise more rapidly. And every dog is different. Certain dogs, like senior pets, those with underlying health conditions and those with flatter faces, experience even more challenges in hot weather.

If you see an anima in a hot car showing signs of distress (exaggerated panting or no panting at all, salivating, an anxious or staring expression, muscle tremors or lack of coordination, convulsions, vomiting, collapse), call your local animal control agency, police department or RCMP, or the BC SPCA Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722 as soon as possible.

We are sad to report that a deceased cat has been brought into the shelter from North Beach Road (near the Mineral Spa). He is a young (2 to 3 years old) intact, all black short haired cat without ID. We believe he is likely a part of a colony there but if you think this may be your kitty please let us know.
