Say hello to our little friend Tony Montana. Tony was just transferred to Salt Spring from the Cowichan Animal Care Centre where he was found as a stray with a large abscess on his cheek. After vet care and recover, Tony is ready to find his furrever home. He can be quite shy at first but will warm up slowly given time....and treats :)

Tony seems to be fascinated with other cats so he might do well in a home with a friendly, well established cat. Once he gets used to his new surroundings, he might also enjoy an indoor/outdoor life.

If you are interested in meeting this guy, please fill out an online application at https://spca.bc.ca/survey/cat-adoption-application-salt-spring-island/ or visit him at the branch during business hours (M-Th 11-4)

There will be a scheduled power outage affecting the animal care centre on Thursday May 9th until 10:30 AM. Staff will be here to make sure all the cats are fed and comfortable but will only have very limited service during this time and will not have access to the Internet or phones.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope to be back to normal by the time the shelter is open to the public.

Thanks

Have you been considering volunteering to give back to this amazing community here on Salt Spring? Have you ever thought about helping the animals of our community? If so, then volunteering with the BCSPCA may be for you.

Come visit our table at the upcoming Volunteer Fair on Saturday April 13 from 10am until 3pm. Speak to staff and volunteers about the many opportunities we have for volunteers.

We are recruiting for various positions but most importantly, we will be looking for eager volunteers to fill roles in fostering, dog handling for our doggie daycare event, fundraising support and a few specific times for in-shelter cat care.

Hope to see you there!

UPDATE: Mia has found her furrever home :)

Mia is a sweet, loving and cuddly 5 year old, with a beautiful long-haired black and auburn mane. Quite the stunning girl!

Mia would prefer a rural home on Salt Spring that allows her to have indoor/outdoor privileges. Mia really enjoys belly rubs and will stay on your lap for any amount of time. She'll cuddle by your feet at the foot of your bed and still likes to play with strings and toys. She is also well trained with the litter box.

It's best for her to go to a quiet house. Movies/music don't bother her much, but too many people around make her fearful and anxious. She may be happy to live with another friendly cat or be an only pet.

Mia is currently in foster so if you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an online adoption application at https://spca.bc.ca/survey/cat-adoption-application-salt-spring-island/

From May Long Weekend through Labour Day, the BC SPCA Salt Spring Island animal care centre attends the Saturday Market in Centennial Park by putting on a doggy daycare service.

With dogs not being permitted in the market area, the BC SPCA provides a fenced-in area where volunteers and leashed dogs interact and play together.

Be a part of this exciting initiative that benefits dogs, guardians, and our local BC SPCA! Do you recognize this sweet, elderly girl? A couple of well meaning tourists found her on the side of Reynolds Rd in very rough shape and brought her to us for care. She does not have a tattoo or microchip and is dehydrated and looks like she's been out on her own for awhile. She is super friendly so has to have had a family at some point in her life and we'd like to try to find them again. If you have any information on this girl, please reach out to the shelter at 250-537-2123 or [email protected]
