💙 Today's FEATURED BOY is SAGE! 💙
Sage was adopted last fall, but has unfortunately been returned, through no fault of his own. He is about 4 years old and is neutered. We’re looking for a new home for this playful, friendly boy-- either a new foster home or a forever home. Sage will do well in a home with a cat-friendly dog, but he has a hard time getting along with other cats, so he should be the only cat in the home. His love language is cuddling while he makes kitty biscuits, and he's always up for a good head scratch. Sage meows when his name is called, showing just how clever he is! Sage loves attention and will make a great companion cat for someone willing to return his affection. Does he sound like the right fit for you? Please DM us to find out more!

This is a great post explaining the most controversial aspect of TNR—the return.

Some folks are uncomfortable with the RETURN part of T-N-R. Here's an explanation of why we do what we do to help others understand.

There are an estimated 50-80 million homeless cats in the United States alone. Kitten season has begun and millions more will be born this spring. 🌷😔

It's heartbreaking. 💔 But, here is the fact:
👉 There are not enough homes for all of the cats and kittens. 👈

Well-intentioned followers will ask, "Why don't you find that cat a home?". Because there is no space available. 😞 There are THOUSANDS of adoptable cats at all of our local shelters who could potentially die without a home. But people want us to keep pulling any and every cat from outdoors to find it a home. Current population numbers make this an impossible task. But there is hope through spay and neuter‼️

We are grateful our shelter accepts ✅ young kittens. They also do wonderful work for ✅ sick and injured community cats. We are blessed they provide space for those who need it most ❤️‍🩹 and we utilize this resource to the fullest! They have the largest foster program in the area, but even they have limits. Space is not unlimited. Fosters are not unlimited. Funds are not unlimited.

If you are an individual who comes across a homeless cat (or even a whole litter) and you are willing and able to take them in (socialize them, if needed), we encourage you and applaud you! We WANT you to do that, as long as you are able to get those kitties fixed. But if you are that person who was fortunate enough to be able to do that and CHOSE to do that, please don't pass judgment on those who are not able to do the same.

To us, a healthy fixed cat who is returning to a caretaker outdoors is not a failure. We are in rural Virginia 🌳, so when we return, it's not exactly "to the streets". We return to *caretakers* with farms, yards with sheds or porches, houses with trees, etc. They have a home in their familiar outdoor space. They have a caretaker to monitor for sickness and injuries and we are always there should those caretakers need us. ❤️

The RETURN part of T-N-R is necessary for combating the overpopulation problem. Right now, they can't all have an indoor home, but if more people understood the importance of spay and neuter, it could definitely be a goal for the future. 🎉

Double the happy news!! Two kittens from Gracie's litter have been adopted together! Melody and Archie have finally made it to their new home with Deb and Dave. It took some doing to get these wiggly sisters into carriers, but the lucky girls have successfully be wrangled! We're so happy to see them get adopted together and wish them a long, happy life! Thanks, Deb and Dave, for giving these girls a home to call their own. And thank you to Brian and his girls for rescuing mama Gracie and all her babies!😻

💗 Today's FEATURED GIRL is WOLFIE! 💗
Wolfie is an almost-three-year-old spayed kitty that was adopted out as a young kitten and has been returned to us 2½ years later, through no fault of her own. In her adoptive home, she was playful, cuddly and well-socialized. She’s in foster care right now and is not loving having other cats in the house, however, so she is shy and prefers to stay by herself. We’d love to see Wolfie in a new house as the only cat where she can return to her happy, confident ways! Would you like to give Wolfie a home she can thrive in? We’d definitely consider a new foster situation for her or an adoption. She just needs to be the only pet. Please DM us!

😻 Today's FEATURED GIRL is RAIN! 😻
Rain is a petite older spayed girl who came to us after being abandoned. She has proven to be a total love bug! Rain is friendly, trusting, and ridiculously cuddly. She loves ALL the attention! Rain is happiest when napping on your lap or cuddling up with you in bed. She is always happy to see her fosters, giving kisses and head butts. She is a wonderful companion pet with her soft meows and gentle demeanor. It’s utterly impossible to not fall madly in love with her! She has such good manners too! Rain stays off the counter and table and uses her litterbox like a pro. She will do best as an only pet with someone who is a homebody. Does this beautiful girl sound like she’d be a good fit for you? Please DM us!

I was just writing the happy post about our beautiful gray tabby Leo being adopted when I found out he was being returned. The reason: he's bigger than they expected and he's overweight. Our hearts are breaking for this sweet boy. It's really hard on a cat to go from home to home. It can cause them to disengage with people, feel unsafe. Is there anyone out there that might want to give Leo the home he deserves-- along with lots of love and play and a healthy diet so he can get back into shape? We're really rooting for this boy to find his family. Please DM us if you think it might be you!💗

😻 TODAY'S FEATURED GIRL is STUBBS! 😻
Stubbs is a beautiful 5-year-old Manx kitty with a reserved personality. Don’t let her shy ways fool you though! She loves gentle scratches and head rubs, she just needs to know you’re a safe person and she’ll accept all the love you have to give. Stubbs has a very unique fur pattern, making her an exceptionally pretty girl. She has a smoke coat, which means her hair is dark, but white at the shaft. It gives her the most magical looking fur that appears to change colour under different light. Stubbs is shy and would do best in a quieter home with adults and older children that can respect her need for a calm environment. She would do well on her own or with another mature and passive kitty friend, but dogs won’t be a good fit. Stubbs was abandoned with Keeks and Rain, so they would be a good fit, but the cats aren't necessarily bonded. This fabulous girl is ready for a furever family that will show her what unconditional love is all about. Please DM us if you'd like to give her a safe home!

Cat Chance supporter Mayellah Dawn has donated $20 towards Rascal's $115 adoption fee!
Name: Rascal
S*x: Neutered Male
Age: 5 years old (January 2025)
Foster: Amanda
Bonded with: Draco, to be adopted together
Photo taken: December 2024
Description: Hi, I'm Rascal! My foster, Amanda, called me Rascal because that's just what I was. She trapped and fixed me 4 years ago, but released me because I was too feral to live indoors happily. I was struggling outside because the other cats like to fight, and I'm more of a lover then a fighter. This past summer, I changed my mind. I discovered that I loved spending time with Amanda and her family and going on walks with the dogs! After a while, I finally let Amanda pet me and did it ever feel good! Then I let her pick me up and bring me into her home. Now I have my own room with everything I need and have no intentions of ever going back outside. My favorite friend is Draco, another kitty at Amanda's. We want to find our forever home together. I also love Sansa, Amanda's huge Argentino Cane Corso dog. I would get along in a home with a dog just fine. My foster thinks I'm the sweetest, most loving kitty ever. Do you think I would fit into your home? If so, please DM the Cat Chance humans!

🐾 TODAY'S FEATURE BOY is SMUDGE! 🐾
Smudge is a beautiful long-haired neutered 6-year-old male with a gentle disposition and a soft voice, which he likes to use to chat with his human. He was adopted a few years ago, but has been returned through no fault of his own. Smudge adores cuddles and his preferred sleeping spot is right beside his human’s head. He’s an energetic boy who loves to play. Does this beautiful cat sound like he’d be a good fit for you? Please DM us! Smudge was surrendered with his housemate Tiggy, but will also do fine adopted alone.

🐾 TODAY'S FEATURE GIRL is TIGGY! 🐾
Tiggy is a 9-year-old spayed girl that was adopted a few years ago, but has been returned, due to no fault of her own. She is an older cat on the quiet side, but once she gets to know you, she enjoys a good conversation. Tiggy has a great love of cuddling and wet food. She’d have a hard time picking a favourite! If you’d love to have a well-behaved mature cat join your family, please DM us! Tiggy was surrendered with her housemate Smudge, but will also do fine adopted alone.
