Healthy Paws Pet Nutrition Centre

Healthy Paws Pet Nutrition Centre Sarnia and Ontario's first natural pet food store. We opened in 1992 as a regular pet food store but quickly learned that all pet foods are not created equal.
(11)

After much research and meeting with veterinarians involved in holistic pet care/nutrition, our store began undergoing some changes, In 1994, we became "The Health Food Store for Pets". Pet nutrition is a growing area of interest as we become aware that 80-90% of health problems in ourselves and our pets can be directly related to poor nutrition, faulty digestion and malabsorption of nutrients. Th

e increase we are seeing in the incidence of "human diseases" in our pets results from changing their natural diet in the wild to highly processed foods when we domesticated them. At Healthy Paws, we have chosen what we believe to be the best foods available - those made with human grade meats and grains preserved naturally with vitamins and having concentrated nutrition. This means that your pets require less food to get better nutritional value. As a result, specialty or natural super-premium pet foods do not cost any more to feed than grocery store or well known "name brands". You can usually cut your pet's consumption by one-third to one-half when you feed top notch ingredients - it's quality not quantity. When you increase the quality of ingredients, your pet is able to digest and use more of the food which means you clean up less! Your pet will be happier and healthier and most likely will require less medical care. The new buzz word in our society is "all natural". This does not guarantee quality - it just means that the manufacturer has not added any chemicals during processing. It does not mean that the ingredients were not chemically sprayed or preserved prior to being purchased. Beware of food marked "no preservatives". The minute pet food is bagged, stored and then opened it starts to lose freshness. Some form of preservative must be used - the most desirable are vitamin formulations which keep the ingredients stable. When you come to Healthy Paws, our goal is to inform you about holistic pet nutrition and to help you choose food & supplements with your pet's best interest at heart. You won't find any gimmicks here - just helpful information. Any information provided is not intended as medical advice. For serious medical problems, contact your animal health practitioner. Living with a very old dog means feeling your heart speeding up every time you see them a little more still than usual and approaching with the fear that they have stopped breathing.
Living with a very old dog means being aware that some of the things you'll do together may be the last.
Living with a very old dog means thinking ′′ this is their last summer ", ′′ this is their last July ", ′′ This could be the last morning".
Living with a very old dog means they bark at any noise at any time, not because they know what they are barking at, its they feel they need to bark and let us know.
Living with a very old dog means, you have to lift them up into the truck, the bed, the couch, the stairs.
Living with a very old dog means putting off commitments because it's important to be close to them.
Living with an old dog means we trip over them because they are so sound asleep they don't hear us approaching them.
Living with an old dog means accidents in the house, its ok they don't mean to do it.
Living with a very old dog means feeling guilty because you know you could have done more, giving them more runs, more travel, more hugs, more caresses, more everything.
I would like to say that living with a very old dog also puts us in the face of our own death, fragility, vulnerability.
Living with a very old dog means we got to experience life with a very old dog, which is one of the best joys on earth!
They'll love you more than you could ever love yourself.

Dear Mom and Dad

Let me stay home. It's not nice for me to walk and run next to you. But because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So I walk and run beside you, standing still if I have to. And feel my paws burn.

I'm looking at you for a moment, but you do not understand. Because in a little over 5 minutes we're at the cool puddle, right? But those little 5 minutes can be fatal to me. Because I sweat through my paws, and in this heat I just can not get rid of the sweat. My whole body is boiling, but I keep going .....
And then I end up on the tarmac. In the heat and in the sun. With my tongue out of my mouth and my eyes flashing in the sun. My paws are burning, my tongue is dry and my head is pounding in the heat that my body cannot get rid of ...

Instead, let me stay at home where I can enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of water, somewhere in the shade. And best of all like in a cool area with grass.

Love
Your dog

USE CAUTION WHEN CHOOSING A FLEA & TICK PREVENTIVE FOR YOUR PET! ⚠️🐶🐱

Popular flea, tick and Heartworm🦟 products have a history of being associated with reactions in some dogs and cats including seizures, behavioral issues, muscular/balance issues, and even death.

One class of these pesticides Isoxazoline (found in products like Nexgard, Bravecto and others) is so powerfully potent that it starts killing within two hours after administration! 🤯 In fact, it kills 98.7% of fleas within 24 hours! Because of this, Isoxazoline drugs now carry a warning⚠️ on their labels in both the U.S. and Canada.🇺🇸🇨🇦 Even the FDA-U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning statement for veterinarians and pet parents. 👩🏻‍⚕️

If you need to use a chemical preventive, or if you are looking for safer alternatives, come in and talk to us about what we recommend!

DO YOU OWN A PET THAT SUFFERS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES?

Perhaps you fed your pet a bag of chicken kibble and they didn’t fair so well. Before giving up completely on that protein source for the rest of your pet’s life, have you ever tried feeding it in a clean, fresh state?

Check out the following study:

“Compared to raw food antigens, IgE antibodies showed a 3–8-fold increase against processed food antigens in 31% of the patients. Similarly, IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies against modified food antigens overall were found at much higher levels than antibody reactions against raw food antigens. Almost every tested serum with high levels of antibodies against modified food antigens showed very high levels of antibodies against myelin basic protein, oxidized low density lipoprotein, AGE-human serum albumin and AGE-hemoglobin.” - 2009 Vojdani; licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

What on earth does that mean exactly?

Basically, in saliva studies, researchers found when the exact same food was eaten by people, there was a 5 times higher risk of an allergic reaction to that food eaten in a processed form than there was when eaten in a raw or unaltered state.

Why?

It is believed that commercially prepared foods cooked at high temperatures create new antigens that pose a higher risk of an immune reaction, especially with pets that already suffer from a compromised immune system!

According to the book Canine Nutrigenomics:

"If we extrapolate these findings to our canine companions, we can surmise that commercially prepared kibble or canned foods, both of which are cooked at high temperatures, may also be exposing neo (new) antigens created through the heating process. While still nutritious, these foods could pose a higher risk of a dietary intolerance or immune reaction, especially for animals with already compromised immune systems."

So before giving up on the thought of never again feeding your pet a specific meat source, make sure you and your veterinarian have ruled out trying to feed that protein source in a fresh, organic state.
