DO YOU OWN A PET THAT SUFFERS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES?
Perhaps you fed your pet a bag of chicken kibble and they didn’t fair so well. Before giving up completely on that protein source for the rest of your pet’s life, have you ever tried feeding it in a clean, fresh state?
Check out the following study:
“Compared to raw food antigens, IgE antibodies showed a 3–8-fold increase against processed food antigens in 31% of the patients. Similarly, IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies against modified food antigens overall were found at much higher levels than antibody reactions against raw food antigens. Almost every tested serum with high levels of antibodies against modified food antigens showed very high levels of antibodies against myelin basic protein, oxidized low density lipoprotein, AGE-human serum albumin and AGE-hemoglobin.” - 2009 Vojdani; licensee BioMed Central Ltd.
What on earth does that mean exactly?
Basically, in saliva studies, researchers found when the exact same food was eaten by people, there was a 5 times higher risk of an allergic reaction to that food eaten in a processed form than there was when eaten in a raw or unaltered state.
Why?
It is believed that commercially prepared foods cooked at high temperatures create new antigens that pose a higher risk of an immune reaction, especially with pets that already suffer from a compromised immune system!
According to the book Canine Nutrigenomics:
"If we extrapolate these findings to our canine companions, we can surmise that commercially prepared kibble or canned foods, both of which are cooked at high temperatures, may also be exposing neo (new) antigens created through the heating process. While still nutritious, these foods could pose a higher risk of a dietary intolerance or immune reaction, especially for animals with already compromised immune systems."
So before giving up on the thought of never again feeding your pet a specific meat source, make sure you and your veterinarian have ruled out trying to feed that protein source in a fresh, organic state.
