As the holidays approach, we want to make sure your horses' care continues smoothly! Please note our holiday hours and important reminders:

📅 Holiday Hours:

Closed: December 24 (noon) – December 29

Open: December 30

Closed: December 31 – January 1

Back to regular hours: January 2

Reminder: To ensure we have time to fill prescription and supplement refills before the holidays, please submit your requests by December 19. This will help us ensure everything is ready for you and your horses before our holiday closure.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🎄🎅... which means it’s time to launch our annual Rhythm colouring contest for all the kiddos!✨

Here is how to join the creative fun!

🎄 Shoot us an email at [email protected], or send us a DM and we will line up getting a colouring page delivered straight to your inbox to print off at home.🎅📧

Contest rules📜:

🎅Open to all of Saskatchewan’s coolest kiddos up to 16 years old!

🎅Parents, be the heroes and request the colouring page via email ([email protected]). Shoot us back an image of the completed masterpiece to that same email before the contest closes.

🎅The contest closes on December 18 at the magical hour of 11:59 P.M.

I get to see the horse and rider doing what they love, and it helps to highlight performance issues that may be missed in a baseline exam. Using the ridden horse ethogram to assess pain behavior during ridden lameness exams has enabled us to find sources of pain that are very important to the horse. Ridden lameness exams have made a big difference to my patients!"

Horses bring us great joy, but loving horses can come with great heartache as well. At a certain point in a horse’s life, their quality of life must be regularly assessed to guide the difficult decision on when it is time to say goodbye. Euthanasia is a painless and peaceful death to end discomfort and pain, and it is the final act of service that an owner can provide for their beloved friend.

Here are few questions to ask when considering euthanasia:

- Can the horse move around to access food and water without difficulty?

- Does the horse have difficulty getting up from laying down?

- Are there sources of pain in the horse that can no longer be managed on a daily basis?

- Has the horse shown significant weight loss or severe difficulty in maintaining their weight?

- Does the horse experience behavior that may be dangerous to others, or themselves?

- Are there other health concerns that can no longer be comfortably managed?

The above questions can help pinpoint signs of failing health in a senior horse. Here at Rhythm, we understand how hard this process is, and we are here to provide guidance and support.
