So let me tell you about my experience; I’m able to construct numerous shelters in many types of environments; Identify edible, and medical flora (ethnobotany) and the process how to prepare them safely. I’ve also used and collected edibles and medicinal plants in nature. In addition, I can also construct snares, deadfall traps, pit traps, knot skills, Survival bows/crossbows, know how to make sol

ar stills, how to collect and purify water, making wilderness teas, gardening, make lavatories in the wilderness and what to use if you got to wipe your bum, knowledge of hazards in the wilderness, how to make a wilderness survival kit, construction of fire with a Ferrocerium Rod, fire bundle, char cloth, Fatwood, and how to cook in the wilderness! Researchers have said, “Emphatically that we are happier, healthier, and developmentally superior (we learn better, quicker, retain more, and are more relaxed) when they spend consistent time in nature.”
So let the adventure begin; to the edge of excitement. Join me; so we can explore the local wilderness; integrating traditional cultural knowledge and training learned from a lifetime of experience. For in this program you and your children will be kept busy learning new skills need in this region. With space to roam and to play, we will track animals, use sustainable plants for harvesting, work with fire, tan hides and of course make tools with what is at hand. Equinox Wilderness Adventure is geared towards anyone looking to expand their skills; allowing them to survive in the wilderness, or urban environment if disaster strike; while at the same time growing in their understanding of the wilderness and Mother Earth. They will explore and adventure while learning more advanced naturalist knowledge and progressing their wilderness survival skills, and grow in confidence. Once I’m ticketed I’ll be opening a school that will run 365 days; rain or shine, for survivalism is a way of life and preparation for the unknown situation that could arise at any given time. Thusly the name, Equinox, correlating the four seasons in which I will train those willing to learn; rain shine or snow! We will expand your sensory awareness as we shall be listening for and to bird language; questioning and tracking animal forms. Journaling of what we experienced or witnessed, as well as training of Local hazards in nature as well as how to make shelter in the wilds.

Moose (Alces americanus)
The average serving of meat is 8 ounces. Assuming you ate three times a day, we'll say you eat 24 ounces of moose meat per day. According to Google a moose can average about 800 (but can weigh upwards of 1500 pounds!). We'll say your moose is on the smaller end and is just 800 pounds not counting bones and antlers and inedible organs. This will make your moose 12800 ounces. Divided by 24 ounces eaten per day and it comes out to about 533 days. Or about one and a half years.

High amounts of vitamin C. New needles have lower concentration, while 1 year old needles has roughly 1.18 mg of vitamin C per gram, and 2 year old needles had as much as 1.87 mg.
Effective medicinal plant especially on the respiratory system.
The reason you don’t boil the needle tea is because the vitamin C is sensitive to heat and may break down into other components. It is a good idea to boil the water and pour it on top of the needles.

Firew**d (Chamaenerion angustifolium)
Edible parts: Young leaves and shoots can be consumed. They can be used in salads, as a vegetable, and young shoots can be used as an asparagus substitute. Older shoots become too tough to ingest.
Firew**d is taken by mouth for migraines, sleep problems, anemia, infections, colds, ulcers, stomach and intestinal problems, pain and swelling (inflammation), fevers, tumors, wounds, enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH), and other prostate and bladder problems. Firew**d has been found to contain several chemical compounds with anti-inflammatory and/or antibacterial properties.
The flowers can be dried and stored to be used in making teas later on. The flowers are added not only for the sweetness they give, but also for the medicinal purposes of indigestion. It’s believed that firew**d helps maintain your gut health.
The root can be roasted after scraping off the outside, but often tastes bitter. To mitigate this, the root is collected before the plant flowers and the brown thread in the middle removed. Flower stalks can be consumed raw or cooked and are used when the flowers are in bud. The pith of young or older stems are consumable raw or cooked.
Eat the meat out of the middle! Slice it open and enjoy a bright, clean tasting green that will also help hydrate you some. Enjoy the vitamins A, C, Beta Sitosterol, Magnesium, Potassium, Bioflavonoid, Mucilage, Tannins that you’re getting from it, too!

Stinging Nettle
Urtica Dioica
Nutritional value per 28 grams or 1 cup is 37 calories, and 2.4 grams of protein.
Many have hollow hairs called trichomes on the leaves and stems, which act like hypodermic needles, injecting histamine and other chemicals that produce a stinging sensation to skin.
Taste is similar to spinach in taste and texture. As it's rich in vitamins containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C), riboflavin (vitamin B2), pantothenic acid, K, A, and tocopherols (vitamin E), iron, potassium, manganese, and calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, silica, iodine, silicon, sodium, and sulfur. Also provide chlorophyll and tannin, and they’re a good source of B complex vitamins.
The highest vitamin contents can be found in the leaves.
Young plants are best harvested and cooked. Soak the plant in water or cooking them removes the stinging chemicals from the plant. Which allows them to be handled and eaten without injury.
After the stinging nettle enters its flowering and seed, setting stages, the leaves develop gritty particles called cystoliths, which can irritate the urinary tract.
Peak season it contains up to 25% protein, dry weight, which is high for a leafy green vegetable.
Leaves are also dried and may then be used to make a herbal tea, as can also be done with the nettle's flowers.
As tea or fresh leaves to treat disorders of the kidneys, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, locomotor system, skin, cardiovascular system, hemorrhage, influenza, rheumatism, and gout. As an expectorant, nettles are recommended for asthma, mucus conditions of the lungs, and chronic coughs. Nettle tincture is also used for flu, colds, bronchitis and pneumonia.
Nettle infusion from young leaves is a safe, gentle diuretic considered a restorative for the kidneys and bladder, and used for cystitis and nephritis. Nettles are also a great blood tonic and a helpful part of any detox regimen.
The stems contain a bast fibre that has been traditionally used for the same purposes as linen and is produced by a similar retting process. Unlike cotton, nettles grow easily without pesticides.

Labrador tea (Rhododendron groenlandicum)
The leaves and flowering shoots are used to make medicine. People take Labrador tea for sore throat, chest congestion, coughs, lung infections, and other chest ailments. They also take it for diarrhea, kidney problems, joint and muscle pain (rheumatism), headache, and cancer.
With its astringent and antioxidant properties, topically applying this tea once it cools put on the areas that suffer from eczema, psoriasis, leprosy, irritation or inflammation is highly effective.
With moderate levels of vitamin C, Labrador tea is able to stimulate the immune system and ensure that the body has enough white blood cells to protect the body. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant that seeks out free radicals causing oxidative stress, inflammation, and chronic disease.
The unique antioxidant composition of this tea has certain anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic effects, making it an excellent preventative measure when consumed in responsible amounts.

2 teaspoons of Labrador tea leaves (15-20 leaves)
4 cups of water (filtered)

Step 1: Add the tea leaves to a stainless steel pot of water
Step 2: Bring the water to a boil and wait until the water changes to a light green.
Step 3: Strain the water out, but do not discard the tea leaves.
Step 4: Refill the pot with water and bring it back to a boil.
Step 5: The color of the water should gradually become yellow.
Step 6: Strain the mixture into a teapot or cup and enjoy!
Note: Due to the potency of this tea, it is recommended that you fill 1/2 of a cup with tea, and then add water to the rest in order to dilute the mixture. If you drink the undiluted tea, do not drink more than 2 cups per day.

How to Make

Equipment needed:
Large skillet pan
Blender
Square glass baking dish

Ingredients needed:

12 oz. = 2 3/4;16 oz.= 1lbs. of bacon
1/2 cup of coconut oil (melted)
1 cup of dried cranberries
Begin by cooking the bacon in a skillet, the key is cooking it long and slow. You really don’t want to crisp it up too much, it should be soft and flimsy still but the fat should be mostly cooked down. At this point turn the heat off and let it cool.
After it cools down (but before the fat begins to solidify), add everything to the blender. Get as much of that tasty bacon fat as possible into the blender. Then begin blending it down. Chop it as finely as you can. At this point add 1 cup of cranberries and make sure they get chopped into very fine pieces as well. The last step is to add the coconut oil and blend till it’s good and mixed up.
Next get the glass dish out and pour the mixture into it. Try to make it about even depth in the dish, then cover and freeze. It will take an hour or so to solidify. At this point you can cut it into bars or whatever size pieces your heart desires.
How Much Rocket Fuel is In This Recipe? My best guesstimate is below 16 oz. of bacon cooked = 2450 calories, 68% fat, 31%protein, 1% carbohydrate.
1/2 cup of coconut oil = 940 calories, 100% fat
1 cup of dried cranberries = 339 calories, 4% fat, 0% protein, 96% carbohydrate
Totals = 3729 calories = Fat 70% (2620 cal), Protein 20% (759 cal), Carbohydrate 10% (350 cal)

Mullein (VERBASCUM THAPSUS)
The leaves and flowers are edible, so enjoying a cup of tea made from these parts. The leaves and flowers can be used in a salad if you desire.
Mullein has been used since ancient times as a remedy for skin, throat and breathing ailments. It has long had a medicinal reputation, especially as an astringent and emollient, as it contains mucilage, several saponins, coumarin and glycosides. Dioscorides recommended it for diseases of the lung and it is now widely available in health and herbal stores.
The dried flowers of Verbascum thapsus has been used in herbal tea. Dioscorides first recommended the plant 2000 years ago, for pulmonary diseases. Leaves were smoked to attempt to treat pulmonary ailments, a tradition that in America was rapidly transmitted to Native American peoples. The Zuni people, however, use the plant in poultices of powdered root applied to sores, rashes and skin infections. An infusion of the root is also used to treat athlete's foot. All preparations meant to be drunk have to be finely filtered to eliminate the irritating hairs. Oil from the flowers was used against catarrhs, colics, earaches, frostbite, eczema and other external conditions. Topical application of various V. thapsus-based preparations was recommended for the treatment of warts, boils, carbuncles, hemorrhoids, and chilblains, amongst others. Recent studies have found that great mullein contains glycyrrhizin compounds with bactericide and potential anti-tumoral action. These compounds are concentrated in the flowers.
The most important use is you can wipe your butt without fear of pain with those soft leaves.
Seeds contain several compounds such as saponins, glycosides, coumarin, and rotenone that are toxic to fish, and have been widely used as piscicide for fishing.
Fowers have been used as a dye of bright yellow or green, and have been used for hair dye. The dried stems were also dipped into suet or wax to make torches. Stalk can also be dried as a spindle for making fire either by hand drill or bow drill.

White Pine Tea

Pine needle tea has been around for a very long time. It was first used by Native American’s for its healing properties. In fact they introduced pine needle tea to the early settlers (in Canada and New England) as a cure for scurvy, which is caused by lack of vitamin C.
Pine needle tea is great for colds, chest congestion and upper respiratory illnesses, though it is also rumored to help with many other ailments as well. You can do your own search on the web to find out more. It is packed with antioxidants, vitamin C and vitamin A.
Luckily pine trees are found in abundance all over the Americas so it’s an easy and free tea that you can make at home. This tea you can make all year round, even in the midst of winter. * ½ cup of pine needles, green young needles are best * 1.5 pints of water * Bring water to boil in a stainless steel pan (do not use aluminum) * Add the pine needles, reduce heat to a simmer for 20 minutes to overnight. * Strain needles and drink warm or cold
The tea should be red in color with a little oil floating on top.
You can add honey or cinnamon if you like. It really doesn’t taste like pine; it has a very mild flavor.
White pine needles have 5 needles on each sprig… but you can use any pine or fir tree.

Sihta, Spruce (Genus Picea)
The needles are edible and most commonly used to make a hot tea. The tea has a surprisingly good flavor, I add honey to mine all the time. Don’t boil; but, steep the tea to retain it’s nutritional value.
Spruce also has edible inner bark (Cambrian), as unpleasant as this may sounds. But throughout the winter anytime you can eat this to prevent starvation. In fact all parts of the tree are non-toxic. Spruce, eating any parts of the tree that they could prepare to be palatable including young green or reddish pine cones. I have been eating the young cones, at first the taste was overwhelmingly strong and bitter, but I have been eating a little at a time, my taste buds have changed and now i enjoy and look forward to that time of year. I also enjoy chewing on the new growth in the spring, it is not too resinous, and it is soft enough to chew. The male pollen cones can be eaten in the spring, they have a mild taste and texture ranges from dense and moist to light and fluffy depending on what stage of development they are harvested in.

SPRUCE RESIN:
Is a full spectrum healing compound, with the benefits of essential oils plus the healing phytochemicals found in the whole sap (oleoresin) naturally produced by the trees from their own healing.
Accounts of medicinal uses of coniferous resin can be sourced to ancient Egypt, where resin salve was used to treat burns. In Nordic countries, Finnish Lapland, ointment prepared from the Norway spruce resin has been used for centuries to treat acutely and chronically infected wounds and sores. She has been revered by Indigenous populations throughout the Boreal Forest, to treat skin boils, burns, inflammations, sores, and wounds.
Spruce resin ointment has long been used in Scandinavian countries. In Finland today, spruce resin and unsalted butter is still very popular, for healing wounds and ulcers.
Native Americans chewed spruce resin, and introduced it to the early American pioneers. It was sold commercially through to the early 1900s. General stores across America carried spruce chewing gum, purchased for a penny or two. Popular brands were Kennebec, Yankee Spruce, 200Lump Spruce, American flag. It was a thriving industry with nationwide distribution. It was sold commercially in the 19th century.
Spruce gum has been used medicinally by the Dene culture (common Athabaskan word for 'people', forming the Athabaskan speakers of Alaska across Northern Canada), to heal deep cuts and sores. For the Teetl’it Gweich’in, of the gwich’in (or Kutchin) people, the Athabaskan First Nations people of Canada and Alaska who live mostly above the Arctic circle, they call chewable Spruce gum dzih kwan (dzih = gum, kwan = clear), and the soft spruce gum dzih ant’at dzih = gum, ant’at = sticky.
