In light of a couple recent incidents in the grooming community in Saskatoon, we have had many clients ask more about our policies and procedures.

I think this is great! So we are going to outline a few of ours and why they exists in our salon.

Your pet’s safety is our first priority, followed by the safety of our staff.

🐾 Pets are crated when they are not being worked on. This allows us to give our full attention to the animal on our table.
There is a Dutch door as well as a solid gate that is between our grooming space and the front door.
🐾We are quite firm with our drop off and pick up times as we only allow one client in at a time. We do this to avoid multiple people and pets in our front entry. To keep everyone safe we assume all pets are uncomfortable with other animals and strangers.
🐾We are honest about your pet’s behaviour. This allows us to work together to create a comfortable experience for both you and your pet. Sometimes the nails aren’t as short as we would like because Fido was sensitive about having them done. Or the face isn’t as perfect as we would like because they were nervous about having it handled. We can give advice on homework to help us in the salon as we build a trustful relationship with your pet.
We will always sacrifice a perfect groom for the safety and comfort of your pet.
🐾Yes we use muzzles when needed. This is for the safety of your pet and/or our staff. Sometimes dogs like to lick while we are sc******ng feet. This can be dangerous as our shears are very sharp! So a quick muzzle for 2-3 minutes keeps the tongue away from our shears. Sometime dogs hate to have their nails trimmed. Muzzling for that part allows us to concentrate 100% on doing it quickly while reducing stress rather than where those pearly whites are.

We always strive to provide a safe and positive experience for your pet and a transparent relationship with you.

As always please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about our facility!

I was able to make the trek to the salon today.

Circle drive and central have been fully plowed.

I would recommend taking 103rd to Jessop Ave.
The south entrance (on the left side of the front building looking at it) is a safer entrance at the moment.

As everything gets packed this week things should be normal by the end of the week.

Drive safe everyone!

Penny, recently adopted from S**T, came in for a spa day.
We recommend waiting 3 weeks before full grooming to let your new kitten/cat settle in.
Nail trim are okay right away as they’re a quicker appointment only taking a few minutes.

🚨🦇 ATTENTION Pet owners and the Community of Saskatoon! We have been notified that a rabid bat was confirmed in the BREVOORT PARK neighbourhood which is near the area of our clinic (8th Street/Circle Drive). We encourage all pet owners to check the status and update if needed their pets’ rabies vaccination. Rabies is a fatal disease and is considered zoonotic meaning it can be transmitted from animals to humans. The virus is spread most commonly via saliva through bite wounds, where it infects the animal and then moves through the nervous system to the brain. Once infected there is no treatment and no cure for rabies. While post-bite exposure treatment in humans is available the BEST prevention is vaccination of our dogs and cats along with using extreme caution and avoiding wildlife ESP those that are acting strange or aggressive. It is recommended to vaccinate even strict indoor cats against rabies as accidents can happen and they sneak out of the house or bats can even get into attics and crawl spaces and enter the home. If you find a bat that is deceased or acting strange it is recommended to NOT handle it, or do so with extreme caution, wear thick protective gloves and use additional barriers to not handle the animal directly and contact the appropriate authorities.

*See below for more information on where to report a rabies suspect or bite incident and for more information on rabies. If you have any questions or need to inquire about your pets rabies vaccine status Give us a call or email!! 💉🐶🐱

✅It is important to note that bats play a very vital and important role in our ecosystems and most bat species in SK are sadly endangered. This PSA is meant to provide helpful information to pet owners on updating their pets’ rabies vaccinations if needed as a way to help protect them, as well as provide the public with helpful information and the proper authority contacts should they encounter a rabies suspicious case! Please do not approach, harm or injure any bats or wildlife you encounter! Rabies is considered endemic in Canadian wildlife and it is not uncommon that a few times a year we are notified of a rabies positive case in wildlife in the Saskatoon or surrounding areas. Thankfully through vaccinations of pets and diligence of the public, animal to human infection cases are very rare! Thank you for all the shares and helpful comments!

I’ve known Nikki from for 10 years. In that time, she and her team have taken care of three of our dogs: Fred, Sam and Wiley.

Nikki has such a gentle ways with dogs! Freddy loved seeing her and always had a spring in his step after his haircuts. She also reached out to us right after we had to say goodbye to Fred four years ago 🧡

We reconnected with Nikki a couple of years ago when we adopted Sam and Wiley. It took a couple of visits to get them used to being pampered, but Nikki was patient and kind and now they love their grooming appointments!

The Mutt Hutt sponsored the Season 7 debut of YXE Underground and I’m grateful to Nikki and her team for their support.

Let me know if you would like to sponsor an episode this season!

Cheers…Eric

Over the weekend and over the pond in Belgium, the world grooming competition was taking place. It’s basically the Olympics of the dog grooming world.

This amazing group of woman, including Saskatoon’s own Jovi Wagner, did Canada proud and brought home the silver medal!!!!

Not only is a mentor and inspiration, but a fabulous friend!

To say that I am proud of her and the team is the understatement of the year! What an accomplishment ladies!!!!

Meeko looking handsome after his first grooming session!

We love to see puppies come in early for grooming!

Grooming is a very important part of pet life. And just like any other skill it takes time, practice, and consistency.

We recommend puppies come in after their second set of shots and then every 2-4 weeks for the first few appointments. We slowly introduce the grooming process and tools with each visit. They learn about the bath, dryer, nail clippers, and brushes. As they build trust and confidence they experience scissors, clippers, and more. We also provide honest feedback, things that need a bit of work, and tricks to help with that.

As your puppy grows we slowly move appointments to 6 and 8 week time periods. By then you should have a puppy that is well socialized with the grooming process and confident to come in to see us!
