We’re running low on some shelter essentials!

Our biggest need right now is unscented or scent-free dryer sheets. With more than 40 loads of laundry every single day, we go through them quickly — and every cozy, clean blanket makes a difference for the animals in our care.

We’re also caring for many kittens right now (like the ones pictured) and could use more wet kitten food to help them grow strong and healthy. And for our youngest canine friends, we’re in need of puppy kibble and canned puppy food.

🧺 Top needs:
• Unscented / scent-free dryer sheets (our greatest need!)
• Wet kitten food
• Puppy kibble
• Canned puppy food

You can order directly from our Amazon Wishlist

Or purchase locally and drop off any day between 9am and 5pm at 2250 Hanselman Avenue.

If you prefer to shop local, Early’s Farm & Garden also has an online wishlist where you can purchase kitten and puppy food for us.

🐾 Alumni Stories Sunday: Pickles (formerly Tiger Tiger)

Tiger Tiger came to us in May 2024 as a tiny nursing kitten alongside her mom and five littermates. Once she was big enough to be on her own, this little sweetheart caught the eye of her new family. In July 2024, she found her forever home!

Her adopter, Jessie, shared this lovely update:

“We have named her Pickles, and she’s been an amazing addition to our family.”

We’re so happy to hear that Pickles is thriving and filling her home with love. 💕

Have you adopted from the Saskatoon SPCA? We’d love to hear from you! Share your story and a photo of your pet by emailing [email protected]
Your update could be featured in a future Alumni Stories Sunday post!

🍂 Training Tip Saturday: Thanksgiving Foods to Avoid 🍗

As you enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner, remember that some holiday foods can be dangerous for pets. Keep your furry friends safe by keeping these off their menu:

🚫 Turkey bones or skin – Can cause choking or stomach upset
🚫 Gravy and fatty foods – May trigger pancreatitis
🚫 Onions/garlic – Toxic to dogs and cats
🚫 Grapes, raisins, and currants – Can cause kidney failure
🚫 Chocolate and desserts with xylitol – Highly toxic
🚫 Bread dough – Expands in the stomach and can be life-threatening

If you’d like your pets to join in the celebration, offer them plain cooked turkey or pumpkin (no seasoning) as a safe treat instead!

Let’s make this Thanksgiving happy and healthy for everyone at the table. 🧡

🐾 Trixie Has Been Waiting the Longest — Let’s Find Her a Home! 🐾

Trixie is a 9-month-old Shepherd mix with a joyful, social personality and a big love for squeaky toys. She’s our longest-term resident, and while she’s been such a good girl in shelter, no puppy should have to grow up here. Trixie’s starting to get a little kennel stressed, and we’d love to see her find her forever home soon.

She was an absolute sweetheart during her recent visit to Global News — charming everyone she met! Out on walks, she’s playful and curious. Trixie is neutral and polite with other dogs and enjoys their company, though she hasn’t been tested with cats yet.

Trixie’s affectionate, loyal nature makes her the perfect best friend for someone who wants a happy companion to share life’s adventures. With love and guidance, she’ll thrive in a home of her own.

Come meet Trixie at the Saskatoon SPCA — she’s waiting to meet her person. ❤️
We’re open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 PM to 4:30 PM.

National Pet Obesity Awareness Day — Bertha’s Story

When Bertha came into our care, she’d been found “running” at large — though running wasn’t really possible for her. At 29 pounds, this gentle cat could barely stand, and taking just a few steps was a struggle.

Our team knew she needed time, patience, and a very special foster home. Thanks to that incredible foster family (who couldn’t resist and ended up adopting her), Bertha started her journey toward a healthier life. With portioned meals, regular movement, and lots of love, she’s now lost an amazing 20 pounds and reached her ideal weight.

Today, Bertha is active, happy, and thriving in her forever home. ❤️

On National Pet Obesity Awareness Day, we’re celebrating Bertha and every pet who gets a second chance to live their healthiest life. Maintaining a healthy weight doesn’t just help pets feel better — it helps them be better, for longer.

Your donations make stories like Bertha’s possible — from veterinary care and specialized diets to the dedicated foster homes who make healing happen.

👉 Give today and help the next animal who needs a little extra care.

🐾 A Big Thank You to Evolution Raw Pet Foods! 🐾

When Quartz came to us after being found running at large, she was in rough shape — underweight with a body condition score of just 2 out of 9. On top of that, she’s been one of the pickiest eaters we’ve ever met!

After trying nearly every food in the shelter, we reached out to Evolution Raw Pet Foods, who generously donated a variety of raw, dehydrated, and canned foods for Quartz to try. Thanks to their kindness, Quartz has finally started eating more regularly — and she’s gaining weight!

We’re so grateful to our friends at Evolution Raw Pet Foods for helping this sweet girl on her road to recovery. ❤️

Adoption Update! 🐾

We’re celebrating another week of happy endings — 26 cats and 9 dogs found loving homes between September 29 and October 5! ❤️

Every adoption helps us make space for the next animal in need, and none of it would be possible without the support of our amazing community. Thank you for helping give these pets a second chance.

Your donations keep tails wagging and purrs coming. Please consider giving today to help more animals like them find their forever homes.

🐾 Meet Vim, SB, and Piper! 🐾

These three adorable 2-month-old puppies had a tough start to life but are now thriving after foster care and ready to find their forever homes! All three are female, full of energy, and bring their own special spark:

✨ SB – Cheerful and fun-loving, SB is always up for an adventure. She loves toys, running, and playing with dogs of all sizes. Her happy personality will brighten any home.

✨ Vim – A lively, playful pup who never wants the fun to stop! Vim loves to chase toys, zoom around the yard, and greet the world with her wagging tail. She’s a perfect match for an active family.

✨ Piper – The most people-focused of the bunch, Piper is smart and eager to please. She already knows how to sit, comes when called, and loves squeaky toys. She’s working on her manners and will thrive with guidance.

All three are sweet, social, and looking for loving homes where they can continue to grow and shine. 💕

📍 Visit the Saskatoon SPCA Adoption Centre Wednesday–Sunday, 12pm–4:30pm, to meet them in person.
