This week we planted our first round of field flowers, zucchini & winter squash and also our second round of lettuce, broccolini, radish, green onions & baby greens 💐🍈

Early morning over a resting field. This is our first time planting this area completely in covercrop and it has quickly become our favourite area to pass by on the farm, absolutely full of bees, birds and butterflies.

We’re savoring it because all good things come to an end, and soon the buckwheat will be cut down to make way for the understory of rye to grow through. In the end, both will be turned over into the soil and digested by magical soil dwelling beings to be transformed into nutrients for future food.

This field has pumped out a lot of food for our community over the past three years, so resting it, feeding it and giving it the time to replenish & regenerate for a full calendar year feels like the most perfect way for us to thank it for all it has done for us and our farm fam 💚🌎

What is CSA?

CSA is a mutually beneficial commitment between local farmers & local food lovers. Members subscribe to the harvest for the season and receive a weekly box of seasonal, organically grown vegetables, harvested fresh for you.

When is it?

Program runs through our local growing season, late June-Oct for 15 weeks.

About the farmers:

We have been growing for Sault Ste. Marie and offering CSA memberships for the past 7 years. We take great pride in supplying our community with high quality, organically grown produce. Our growing philosophies are centered around soil building practices & boosting pollinator populations through clean growing practices.

Saying an emotional farewell to this lettuce patch before tomorrow’s harvest 🥺

Hands down, this has been the best lettuce year we’ve experienced in our 10 years of farming! After losing 50% of our lettuce crops last year to high heat and drought, we will accept this small victory and leave this photo here so we can forever remember that one year when the lettuce gods blessed us 🥬✨
