AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: TUNA 🐟🐾

Meet Tuna, a lovely 2-year-old female cat with a past that makes her all the more deserving of a special home.

Tuna was found abandoned outside last winter winter, struggling to care for her litter of kittens before eventually finding her way to a farm. Though she had a rough start, she raised 3 beautiful kittens who all have found homes, and we now feel Tuna is finally ready to find a place to call her own aswell.

Tuna was a formally feral cat, and while she may be initially shy and cautious around people, she shows a keen interest in other cats and would do well in a cat-friendly home. Given her history,

Tuna will need a patient adopter who understands that she may experience a period of regression as she adjusts to her new environment. She will need time and patience to feel comfortable.

She adores playing with chase toys and ponytail rings, and she can't resist a good head scratch. Tuna’s favorite treat is lickable cat treats, which can be a great way to build trust and make her feel more confident with you.

If you are able to add another cat to your family please consider Tuna , the really deserves the chance to find a forever home where she can truly flourish. Her current foster home is happy to answer any questions you may have about her.

I always say: One kitten is half a kitten. Two kittens are a whole!

Often, first-time adopters feel overwhelmed by the idea of bringing home a pair, and believe it will be easier to adopt a solo kitten…only to realize later that they wish they’d adopted a duo! As someone who reads a lot of adoption applications, trust me: a lot of solo-kitten adopters end up wanting a second kitten after all.

Paired adoptions make me happy, but I do lots of solo kitten adoptions too, as long as the adopter has another young cat in the home to be the kitten’s friend. Our kittens adjust beautifully to homes with young, playful cats! Interestingly enough, we didn’t have any paired adoption applicants for my current crew of 4…but we had several applications from people who had recently adopted a solo kitten and regretted not adopting a second!

One adopter told me that she’d adopted a kitten just days earlier, then went to the vet and was told “you need to get a second kitten,” so she applied with Orphan Kitten Club for a little friend. (LOVE that advice—thank you, vet!)

I share this to say that if you’re a first-time adopter considering a solo kitten, consider adopting a pair. I promise I’m not just trying to upsell you on kittens! Two kittens will keep each other entertained, learn new skills from one another, take out their energy on one another, and enrich each others’ lives. And when you adopt a pair of young friends or littermates, they’ll be bonded immediately!

If you’ve recently adopted a solo kitten and have no other cats at home, it’s not too late to get them a little buddy to bond with for life. Every time an adopter applies to pair one of our kittens with their new kitten, I tell them: you are making a very smart decision!

Looking for a dog groomer in the area who would be willing to help out with a lower cost appointment for a dog that our rescue just had surrendered to us.
She is not matted but longer haired and had been partially shaved due to an allergy. She has no sores or scabs anymore and everything seems healed, but she looks rough and has a very uneven coat now. She could really use and deserves a little spa day!
If you know a groomer out there who may be willing to help please share this post with them and reach out or let me know how I can get in contact. We are already having to dig into our own pockets to pay her vet fees and could really use some help with making her look her best for adoption. Thank you 🙏💜

Rest in peace, Darcy. TW: Topic of euthanasia discussed 🌈

On a recent visit to a shelter we support, we briefly saw Darcy. Darcy was a stray and was still on a 5-day hold to see if he would be picked up by an owner. We inquired about him, but due to an illness outbreak in the shelter, we never got to meet him.

We later checked in on him and learned he was euthanized due to shelter overcrowding. Our hearts broke.

In the almost year we’ve been supporting this shelter, this is the first time we have been too late to support a dog we felt could transition to our foster program—specifically, a dog we met, a dog we locked eyes with. It was a really hard message to receive.

Municipal shelters are required by the government to have space for strays at all times. If the kennels are full, they unwillingly decide to make space by euthanizing animals, which can include well-tempered, “adoptable” dogs.

One thing we want to make clear is that we have seen shelter staff go above and beyond to help get dogs out of the shelter. Many look for partner rescues on their lunch breaks, weekends, or during other free time. When we met Darcy, he hadn’t been given a name, but the shelter staff named him before he was euthanized as their way of honoring him. The staff care.

When a dog is marked for euthanasia, it can be for various reasons. Usually, the dogs that are harder to adopt or having a hard time in the kennels (self-harming, reactive, fearful) are marked first. In Darcy’s short time at the shelter, he showed complex emotions that made him harder to understand. Although, we were told he was opening up but it was too late.

Darcy was named after Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, a complex and misunderstood character.

We wanted to make this post to honor Darcy.

While it’s easier to have these moments happen behind the scenes or with closed shelter doors, we think it’s important to bring transparency to ideally foster understanding and inspire action to prevent this in the future.

ISO: Canopy Tents

We have a big outdoor fundraiser coming up next week and are on the hunt for a few canopy type shelters or even a car tent!

Unfortunately we lost a few of our original shelters to a big wind storm in the spring, and only have one left surviving.
If anyone has one they are willing to lend, donate, or sell at a reasonable price please let us know!

Searching for a foster home for a medium sized female husky/lab, preferably one with no other dogs until we can better assess her behaviour with them.

These 2 siblings are still searching for their Furever homes. We would love to see them adopted together but we would accept them going to seperate homes if those homes have another pet as a companion. Both of them love other friendly cats and dogs and are very affectionate and cuddly with the humans in their home. These 2 have been overlooked time and time again and they are both so deserving of loving families. Both are fixed and up to date on vaccines.

🌟Update! The two dogs have been adopted!

Today the Township has two 3-5 month old female German Shepherds available for adoption. They are very nervous and deserve a loving home. Ideally we would like to see these two go to a home together as they seem to have a special bond. If you are interested in adopting these two please contact the Township of Ramara Bylaw Department.
