FAQ: "I have an older dog and I'm worried she'll be pestered by the younger dogs wanting to play all the time"

I'm sure we can all relate to this in some degree... no one wants to hear "Wanna play? Wanna play? Wanna play?" all day long when all you want to do is catch a snooze on the couch by the fire. 🤣 But thats the glory of this type of setup. The mix of ages of a pack allows those that want to play to be off racing around, digging holes, chasing birds, chewing on sticks etc while those that would rather lay back and watch the world go by are able to do so. The young ones may come and ask if they want to play, but when the answer is no, its a quick turn around to play with those of a like mind.

More often than not, those that want to get into shenanigans find eachother quickly and those that want to catch that all important 5th nap in a sunbeam are free to do so... kind of like people around that resort pool I would imagine ;)

FAQ: "I'm worried my dog will be overwhelmed with having so many other dogs around - he/she is used to being the only dog"

This is a common concern - and one that comes up more frequently since the 2 years of isolation that Covid brought. However, I've been doing this type of boarding for almost 20 years now. I insist on a screening before I can take a booking because I assess each dog before accepting them. I watch their behaviour during a screening, checking for how they interact with me, react to the environment here, and gauge their stress level. I do not introduce them to other dogs during a screening as that would be unfair to both the dogs boarding, and to your pup who will have their attention on you instead of their own interactions. If I feel there is a concern, I am upfront. Afterall, you are usually looking for boarding because you are going on vacation or dealing with a family event and the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not your pup is doing well at the boarding facility. If you have a concern or perhaps to put everyones mind at ease, I can sometimes offer a trial run day where we can all give it a go and see how they settle in. But this is definitly only if I deem it necessary and on a case by case basis.

Also, this is not a dog park. I do not just take your dog and put them in the pack and say "Good luck". Introductions and pack building can sometimes take hours - letting everyone meet at their own speed and allowing the pack to build naturally. We keep things simple here and strive for as stress free an environment at possible. Currently, as I write this, the fire is glowing in the fireplace, the winter winds are howling outside and I have 5 dogs peacefully snoring on couches and dog beds alike.

Your fur baby needs to be neutered and up to date on all their vaccines, and most importantly come by for a screening before we're able to take a booking. A screening allows us to meet you and your pup, and you to meet us and see the facility. If we all think its a good fit, we fill out some paperwork and we're all set!
Whether your baby wants to run and play with some new friends, or lay and nap by the fire, we're happy to make their stay as amazing as possible so that everyone can enjoy some much needed vacation time!

Shelburne's Littles Dog Boarding (HomeStyle, Cageless, In Home Boarding) has some openings over the coming weeks! Your fur babies get to lounge on couches, in front of a fireplace, watching TV while you are travelling to see family and friends this season. Wishing this little hiker the most amazing 9th birthday today! is almost half way through his "Henry Hikes Canada: Walking Out West" adventure where he's working on his goal of hiking in every province and territory of Canada to show kids (and big people) everywhere all the amazing spots Canada has to offer and that you just need to get out there to experience it! Henry started hiking the Bruce Trail at 7 and is 282km in on that goal - he's just taking on a "little" side project to compliment his Bruce Trail goals.

Gauging interest in a teen puppy class in the Shelburne area for 5-10 month olds
4 weeks (compressed 6 week program) @ 1 x 90 minute session per week
Cost is $250 all in
Let me know your interest and I will forward this to the trainer .... we're trying to see if we have enough interest to warrant a class.
Potential days would be Thursdays at 3:30pm and/or Sundays (time tbd)
