0nce in a while an exceptional dog comes along who happily fulfills all our dreams. Frøya (BPISS CH Kyon's Bold Nordic Queen (0D) is one such special girl !
The dam and grand-dam and great grand-dam of multiple champions and performance dogs , Frøya has made an enormous impact on our KY0N buhund breeding program. ❤️
Always a quietly steady and dignified Queen of our kennel Frøya moved to THE best retirement home ever, when she was 7 years of age. Here she continues to rule over her own little buhund pack. The best part of this move- for Karin especially - is that Frøya often comes back to Kyon for visits !
0ur sincerest thanks go out to the Cohen family for welcoming Frøya into their home- where she continues to benignly 'rule' ( over her fabulous brother Magnus, and her wonderful grandson Trigg).
We hope for many more years to enjoy our darling girl ! ❤️

Today we happily celebrate that GL0RY ( Kyon's Glory Days) is starting on her 15th year in fine form and good spirits! She is naturally slowing down a bit , but senior bloodwork still shows she is robustly healthy.
We are so grateful to her retirement owner, Karon Hunt, who is providing such a rich and varied life for our darling and most beautiful girl.
Glory moved to Karon's home at age 6 years - after she had retired from having pups. She was the most wonderful dam to her babies and loved her life at Kyon, but we felt she deserved to be the "Queen of her own castle".
Glory continues to live a wonderful life, is a certified service dog, as well as remains an influential dam for our lines, especially through her son Parker. ( ch Kyon's can't get no Satisfaction). Glory goes everywhere with Karon, be it to nursing homes, antique car-shows, the local Tim Horton or visiting with children and any other dogs.
Happy 14th birthday dear Glory- and may there be many more!❤🥰

There are some days when I just think I simply cannot take one more sad loss. 😢 💔
This one is a really hard one for me: Was just not yesterday that my wonderful Valkyrie was my most treasured baby-puppy girl? and now she is gone. ...Far too soon. Yesterday she leaned into my lap, on her bed - and was in my loving arms while my local veterinarian helped her gently go to sleep...( thank you Dawn ,for coming home here- and easing my beloved girl's passing in the most compassionate way ) .
Valkyrie's mother is still alive at 14 years and her father passed at 15 .5 years - so it has knocked me sideways to loose Valkyrie a few weeks short of 9 years. Valkyrie was diagnosed with inoperable spindle cell carcinoma a few months ago, but strong as she always was, she carried on in her usual fashion, as if nothing was wrong- for so many weeks, until she finally told me she had had enough...
0ver ThanksGiving weekend she took a sudden turn for the worse- yet thankfully she was not in pain and still wagged her tail and so loved the roasted chicken I hand-fed her- and up until Thanksgiving day she was still busy 'digging her way to China' -making good use of her tremendous "landscaping skills" which she has fine-tuned her whole life. As we today are filling in the holes in our 1 acre fenced yard that to me feels almost sacrilegious...
But mostly I am so very sad because who will now keep her buddy *0la* in line? They were such a closely bonded pair, and he is looking for her today, although both he and her daughter Uni was there, when Valkyrie passed.
I also do wonder who will mentor Uni in how to be the proper benign ruler of our pack- and will little Uni eventually follow in her mom's footsteps?
Valkyrie was such a quiet alpha- but she firmly ruled over all our buhunds... and now they have all lost their "Queen"... and I have lost my darling solid-tempered and funny girl.
May there be many big holes to be dug "in the beyond"- and may there be big fields to hunt endlessly for those "pesky rodents" in - and may there be many metal bowls to chase around and make those extra loud clanking sounds with to keep you forever happy, my darling.
Rest in Peace Valkyrie , and thank you for all the love, for your immensely loyal heart and your phenomenal puppies - and your incredible maternal nurturing skills.
I will miss you forever, my clever girl- and I feel quite lost now- with you gone.💔

We are so happy with our sweet SUNNA who now is formally known as CHAMPI0N Kyon's Lille Lekende Sunniva!

Sunna is yet another titled Flink ( ch Kimura's Flink- Norwegian import) offspring out of our dam Lettie (am/can Grand ch Kyon's Lekende Lett). We could not be more pleased with this young girl ,who at 16 months finished owner-breeder-handler, with multiple major Best of breed wins from the classes.

Sunna herself is fairly bored by the show-ring - so we are now onto training for performance sports for our most brilliantly clever girl.❤

Thank you to John Mairs (at Tamsu learning centre) for all the training classes, and to Ella Anderson and our granddaughter Lilly Barr-Klouman who both help Karin train all our youngsters!

Sometimes it simply takes the eyes of others , to remind me of how blessed I am to be living here , where we have this beautiful land to enjoy and be the stewards of , where we can hike along our many trails with the dogs and train them - and having access to the pond which especially our Goldens love so much!
This weekend we hosted the GRCGT hunt and WC tests - and it was so much fun. I enjoyed every minute- it gave me such pleasure seeing all the dogs work so well ! Thank you Sean and Adelle for continuing the KY0N tradition of making the property available for the community of dog-lovers/trainers.

Time passes in the blink of an eye! 0ur lovely JANE, aka CH Kyon's Baby Jane ( https://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=683620 ) turned 15 years old yesterday- and is now beginning her 16th year in very fine form! She is a truly phenomenal girl, who we hope will impact our breeding program for generations to come!!! Jane gave us 3 robustly healthy litters and has blessed so many homes with her delightful offspring.❤

0ur many thanks go out to Patrica Gagnon , who has had Jane for the past 9 years in her retirement . As hard as it was for us to say goodbye to one of our most favourite girls, we knew Jane would love being a beloved house-pet full time with Pat.

We are so enormously pleased with our girls PIPPI's and UNI's performance at the latest SDDA scent trails at Utopia. 0n Saturday they got 3 for 3 , UNI got her first advanced interior and Pippi got her final Advanced exterior and Containers with perfect scores. 0n Sunday Pippi was simply phenomenal in Excellent Containers and she got 2 out of 3 hides in Excellent exterior. Karin pulled her off the third hide ( arrrgggghhhh!)- so we missed the new scent CHAMPI0N title, with just a hair. Thank you Judge Bev for the entertaining hides. We had such a blast and are so very, very proud of our scent working buhund girls!

It is with profound sadness that we share that RANI ( Rani The Service Dog Who Would Rather Be Fishing) has now passed away - just a few weeks before her 12th birthday.

Rani is deeply missed by so many; being at one point a real internet sensation (with her amazing focus and incredible fishing skills). But most of all Rani was Patty Aguirre's faithful service dog and her beloved and most loyal pet.

We could surely write books about this amazing dog , whom we are so very proud to have bred. 0ur deepest thanks go out to Patty and Bart for providing Rani with such a wonderful home where Rani would live each day to the fullest.... A better life no dog could have wished for!

Rani died from a combination of several serious ailments. She had suffered with kidney disease for quite a long while, and had not been expected to live into her senior years. However she surely did, and she was an inspiration for so many! Towards the end Rani sadly also developed HemangioSarcoma of the spleen and autopsy also showed her heart to have some advanced DCM ( before we knew this diet could be problematic ,she was fed grain free 0rijen in her early years, a diet known to cause DCM in Golden Retrievers )

Rani was ever so gently laid to rest , surrounded by love , when she herself indicated she was ready to leave, on July 12th 2024 . Rest in Peace , our beautiful girl- and thank you for everything ❤

Belated happy 14th Birthday to one of of our most favourite girls ever! Mocha aka CH Kyn's Fire up the Mocha ( pedigree and clearances https://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=506003 ) has now happily started on her 15th year in fine spirit.

Although she struggles a bit with mobility issues (after a vestibular episode earlier this year) her "retirement" owner Elaine Dwyer reports that "Mocha is doing very well these days; eating and drinking and goes for at least 6 to 8 short walks a day. She loves to go round all the neighbours' gardens, and they always come out to greet her".

our deepest thanks goes out to Colin and Elaine and the whole the Dwyer family for loving Mocha and providing her with the very best home possible. Happy birthday, darling Mocha!

Happy 4th of July, to our many beloved American friends! 🇺🇸 ❤
We so appreciate all your support of KYON Kennels over the many decades and we are filled with gratitude of the many wonderful US homes for our KYON Golden Retrievers and Norwegian Buhunds.

Sadly your CDC has put a blockage on Canadian puppies going to the US, under the age of 6 months- as of of August 1st 2024, which makes it next to impossible for us to place our pups in US homes, from then onwards .😭💔

We currently have a Norwegian Buhund male puppy who we are looking to place, and if there is an interest we might prioritize choosing a US home - since he can go in *this month of July* , before the new regulations come in.

Happy Canada day - from our home to yours ! We hope you are all having a wonderful day, celebrating this our National Day, while we as country must aim to always strive to do better!

At KYON we are also at the same time celebrating our most senior Golden boy LUCAS ( CH Chrys-Haefen Look at Kyon) who now has started on his 14th year- in good form and great spirits.

LUCAS is on daily antibiotics, just to battle ongoing aspiration pneumonia which he is prone to ( he has laryngeal paralysis; like many ancient dogs develop). Apart from that, Lucas is always a happy boy trotting around at Kyon, greeting our visitors as they arrive with a smile , and being the most wonderfully sweet boy who we all LOVE so very much!

We had the pleasure of testing our pups' herding instincts with a flock of sheep! One of these brave boys will soon be joining a farm, so we wanted to ensure he's comfortable around livestock and ready to herd if needed. It's truly incredible to see their bravery and instincts at just 7.5 weeks old. We are so so proud of them!!

The Norwegian Buhund is not only an excellent family pet but also a versatile working dog. They thrive when given a job, excelling in herding, agility, obedience, scent work, and even as therapy dogs. There's nothing they can't do!

We are so very happy with KOPI - aka KYON'S KOPIKO TYRISON- . Kopi recently went to the large Erie Shores dog-show and he showed like dream for Karin! ❤

Kopi's proud owners are Timothy Wong & Carmilla Sun and they have done such a beautiful raising this wonderful puppy, so that he is a born show-man and completely at ease in the ring. We could not be happier with this young boy!

Kopi has now made a good start towards gaining his championship and he also managed to win the herding puppy group . The future is more than bright for this promising puppy ! 🥰
Kopi' sire is our own OLA ( Am/Can ch Fabrajs Marquis de Lafayette O'Kyon) and his dam is our TULLA ( ch Kyon's Tulla Tyridatter.

We are so incredibly proud of Elizabeth Kozoriz and her two Kyon golden boys ! To have this kind of hardworking owner is any breeder's dream!

LUCEA ( the senior) is formally known as Kyon's Lueca Skywalker CDX RMX ( sire: CH Chrys-Haefen Look at Kyon , dam: CH Kyon's Star Crossed Lover). Lucea recently achieved the following:
CKC RMX (Rally Master Excellent) in Nov 2023 CKC Sprinters Title (500 points) , June 2024 ,CARO Achieved Working Elite Class 1 and Working Class Individual Title 5 in May 2024 , RATS Canada Advanced Barn Ratting, and Advanced Brush Hunting Titles March 2024. Hopefully LUCEA will also qualify for the Regional Dock Diving Championships being held at the end of August here at St. Andrews, MB. Liz and Lucea are working towards the hydro dash as his event! ❤

THOMAS is formally known as Kyon's Thomas Aquinas CGN ( Sire: Ch Gold Notes There is Only One , Dam: CH Kyońs Midfield Maestro ). Thomas recently achieved the following:
CKC Canine Good Neighbour (CGN) Feb 2024 , CKC Novice Sprinter (150 points) Sept 2023, Sprinter Title (500 point) June 2024 , Barnhunt RATO (open title) April 2024, RATS Canada Achieved Master Brush Hunting and Advanced Barn Ratting Titles April 2024.

We are delighted with AURORA's ( Ch Kyon's Legendary Nordlys) and FLINK's ( Ch Kimura's Flink ) beautiful litter of pups. Interestingly Buhund pups go through an amazing development, from being very dark grey as babies - strikingly looking more like wolf-cubs - to becoming various shades of mostly clear wheaten as adults.

Sadly this will likely be our last litter where we will be able offer KYON bred pups to US buhund owners- since the CDC is now demanding that all pups must be at least 6 months before being allowed to cross the border! this new regulation will come in affect by August 1st of this year.

The Norwegian Buhund is an ancient breed- predating Viking times in Norway ... and it is now sadly nearing extinction. At Kyon we are doing our outmost to save this little bit of our own cultural heritage.

We love what we do! At Kyon we are a family run business - and we live right on site . We have been offering all breed boarding (since 1990 ) and we love all breeds of dogs, plus cats and other pets! ALL ARE WELCOME here to our boarding kennel . We have access to hundreds of acres of trails and fields and ponds for our visitors to enjoy!

Our building has large and roomy inside pens- with comfortable Kuranda beds . All dogs who visit get paired with one of our own placid dogs ( unless you have a dog-aggressive dog)

We started the buddy-system many decades ago, since we find that most dogs are far happier if they have a canine friend to bond with - while staying at Kyon. The pets visiting get to swim if they wish - or go for many hikes along our many trails- or they just hang out with their buddy in our extra large exercise yards.

We are situated in the hills of Mono- 1 hr northwest of Toronto. We offer a shuttle service for pick up and drop off, and also can groom your pets for you.

Our beautiful boy FLINK aka Can CH Kimura's Flink is now fully matured. At 4.5 years old he is becoming a significant sire for us and our thanks go out to Kathrine and Terje Lindstrøm for entrusting this sweet boy to us . We love him so much!

Flink is already the sire of multiple champions and has several offspring with performance titles in various fields ! He is a bright boy, utterly gentle in disposition . Flink is our beloved house-pet , and he is Wally's constant shadow. ❤

At KYON we celebrate not only the many titles of our dogs achieve , but also those that work as dedicated service dogs. Here is a video of Chris Jackson with her beloved Kyon senior ABBY ( from the Mick and Star combination <3 ). ABBY is a "diabetic alert dog" and Chris reports that she is amazing at the work she naturally and instinctively does. Watch how she indicates that Chris blood sugar is too high ! we are so proud of this darling dog, who joins the ranks of many other Kyon medical alert dogs, both Kyon Buhunds and Goldens alike . We are also thinking of Chris and Abby these days- as ABBY has just had a toe amputated- as it was very swollen and possibly infected to the bone .... or she might have another issue which caused this toe injury. we are waiting for biopsy results while Abby is recovering well from this surgery. Please keep Abby in your thoughts and prayers . Chris truly needs her to be around for many years to come. 🥰

Kyon is a small family-run business with tons of experience , having been in the pet-service field for almost 5 decades. We are situated in a great country-setting in the hills of Mono , with lots of room for your pets ( 1 hr northwest of Toronto).

We have bred British style Golden Retrievers under the KYON prefix ( since 1970) and the ancient and unique Norwegian Buhunds (since 1989). Since 1990 we have also provided full service boarding for all breeds and all types of pets . We offer a shuttle service and can pick up and deliver within the GTA area .

Our Golden Retrievers and Norwegian buhunds are bred to be of sweet and highly trainable temperaments, and Kyon is well-known worldwide to have a focus on exceptional longevity as well as health and soundness . Our dogs excel as family pets , but we are also active within a wide varieties of fields of competition. Our dogs do well in conformation showing, obedience and rally, hunt tests, herding , agility , scenting and within the service dog field.
