Kyon Kennels has had British-style Golden Retrievers since 1970 and Norwegian Buhunds since 1989. We do full service boarding for all types of pets.

We can pick up and deliver within the GTA. We are in a great country setting with lots of room for you pets. Check out our web site for more info and pictures.

It is we deep sorrow and grateful hearts that we say goodbye to Mocha - aka Ch Kyon’s Fire up the Mocha.

Mocha struggled with some old age mobility issues following a vestibular episode and in the end she also was found to have a lump in her throat .

So as she herself so clearly conveyed that she wanted , Mocha was finally let go, being held in the loving arms of Elaine and Colin- her retirement owners.
Elaine writes that their whole neighbourhood is bereft and is missing their fabulous girl!

Mocha passed away well into her 15th year. Our deep appreciation and much love goes out to her retirement family, Colin and Elaine Dwyer and their extended family members . Mocha has been so well cared for - ever since she moved to their home at 5 years of age . We have so appreciated the frequent updates and loving messages about our darling girl.

Mocha was the smallest pup in her litter and was sold to a pet home at 9 weeks of age. She was then returned to us at 11 weeks because of absolutely normal naughty puppy behaviours( chewing, nipping and digging). She never did outgrow her digging hobby! ;-)

We happily took her back - and her promise of being an exceptional Golden Retriever was clear to us from day one.

Mocha was such a wonderful character her whole life through- immensely kind and nurturing, strong-willed always -and a fabulous dam to her 3 litters.

Rest in peace , darling girl, may there be many deep holes to dig in the beyond and much landscaping to be done - forever more!

Mocha is so sadly missed by us all.

We have REALLY great news for those of you who are asking us if there are any Kyon buhund pups that will be available as pets or show quality/ breeding potential to Americans, now that the border has been closed to any pups under the age of 6 months.

0ur very dear friend, Pat Vanden Heuvel, has just had a STUNNING litter from L0KI (Am/Can Gr CH Kyon's Bold Nordic Prince) and FRIDA (Am ch Kyon's Fine Flotte Frida). These babies are looking for homes- the pups are superbly well raised and socialized and offer an outstanding pedigree with all kind sf potential.

We are so EXCITED about these 3 fabulous junior puppies ! In the midst of our deep sorrow over having recently lost beloved seniors, it is wonderful to know that the future is still bright with these "up and coming" babies! !

It has taken us a little while to write about the sudden loss of our wonderful Glory ( Kyon's Glory Days). Despite her advanced age we had not expected her passing for a while yet....

However, shortly after we had celebrated Glory's start to her 15th year, we got the unexpected news that she had been rushed to the vet , where she was then kindly let go , with her devoted retirement owner Karon Hunt at her side. It was found that Glory had a mass on her bladder, and she also succumbed to her old age mobility issues.

0ur hearts go out to Karon Hunt , who has now lost her trusted service dog. We are full of gratitude to Karon for all the care and love Glory received as Karon's loyal companion. ❤ A better "retirement" for our Glory we could not have hoped for!

Glory's life was incredibly rich as Karon's certified service dog- a position Glory seamlessly (and without much training) naturally took on ,after having been such a beloved member of our Kyon pack. Whether she was at Karon's side as a crossing guard- or visiting nursing homes- or being part of many a parade- or being in church : Glory took it all in stride ; with so much vigour and endless J0Y. She spread her special brand of light and sunshine wherever she went. Glory impacted so many lives in the little town where she lived!

At Kyon we also deeply mourn her passing, as she was one of our must treasured dams. 0ne who excelled at raising her babies.
Rest in Peace, our darling girl... and Thank You.❤

Glory will forever be missed... but she will also live on through her many descendants.

0ur deepest thanks go out to Kopi's owners ;Timothy Wong and Carmilla Sun, for letting us borrow this handsome young man for a few shows!

Kopi finished off his brief show-career with a smashing Herding group 1st and 2nd- we were truly honoured and simply blown away by this youngster ( just 16 months old) beating some of the very top herding dogs in the country! K0pi was handled to these amazing group wins by the talented CJ Dymont! ❤

He was also handled to his title and in the breed ring by our good friend Colin Brownlee ( and Team!) , as well as Ashley Martins and breeder Karin -- it takes a team!!!

0ur appreciation go out to the many judges who recognized the supreme type and exquisite balance of this youngster, especially Dianne Miller ( group 1st !) and Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine ( group 2nd !) as well as Wendy Paquette ( finishing title !) and finally Esther Joseph (a huge herding puppy group win) .

This has been a deeply sorrow-filled day at KY0N:
After desperately trying to help our beloved LUCAS (Ch Chrys-Haefen Look at Kyon) overcome yet another serious bout of acute aspiration pneumonia, he today clearly told us that he had had enough. And so with streaming tears and broken hearts we let him go. He was well into his 14th year.
Lucas was lying on his soft bed, hugged by his most favourite kennel helper, Amanda, and kissed softly by Karin, and then he gently slipped away....
0ur thanks go out to the compassionate Allandale veterinary staff who helped ease his passing tonight. 0ur deep gratitude also go the kind-hearted staff at Rowland Mobile Veterinary Clinic, who have been there through the past year and a half, supporting Lucas so that he lived a happy, quality life, despite his geriatric laryngeal paralysis.
Lucas was an incredibly strong dog who had tons of drive and immense character ,coupled with an amazing will to keep going- But even the hardiest of all dogs ( like he was) eventually will come to the end of the road. 💔
It was extra sad to let Lucas pass today; because Sean and family was away on a mini-break - and so the decision had to be made without all of his human family being home to say goodbye to their much loved and most senior boy.
Rest in Peace beloved Lucas- may you again be able to happily trot freely - now in the fields of the 'far beyond' , just like you always did, with so much joyous vigour at Kyon.
Finally our profound thanks go out to our dear friend Jennifer McAuley, of Chrys-Haefen Golden Retrievers, for entrusting LUCAS to our care- so many years ago. He more than fulfilled all our hopes and dreams.❤

0nce in a while an exceptional dog comes along who happily fulfills all our dreams. Frøya (BPISS CH Kyon's Bold Nordic Queen (0D) is one such special girl !
The dam and grand-dam and great grand-dam of multiple champions and performance dogs , Frøya has made an enormous impact on our KY0N buhund breeding program. ❤️
Always a quietly steady and dignified Queen of our kennel Frøya moved to THE best retirement home ever, when she was 7 years of age. Here she continues to rule over her own little buhund pack. The best part of this move- for Karin especially - is that Frøya often comes back to Kyon for visits !
0ur sincerest thanks go out to the Cohen family for welcoming Frøya into their home- where she continues to benignly 'rule' ( over her fabulous brother Magnus, and her wonderful grandson Trigg).
We hope for many more years to enjoy our darling girl ! ❤️

Today we happily celebrate that GL0RY ( Kyon's Glory Days) is starting on her 15th year in fine form and good spirits! She is naturally slowing down a bit , but senior bloodwork still shows she is robustly healthy.
We are so grateful to her retirement owner, Karon Hunt, who is providing such a rich and varied life for our darling and most beautiful girl.
Glory moved to Karon's home at age 6 years - after she had retired from having pups. She was the most wonderful dam to her babies and loved her life at Kyon, but we felt she deserved to be the "Queen of her own castle".
Glory continues to live a wonderful life, is a certified service dog, as well as remains an influential dam for our lines, especially through her son Parker. ( ch Kyon's can't get no Satisfaction). Glory goes everywhere with Karon, be it to nursing homes, antique car-shows, the local Tim Horton or visiting with children and any other dogs.
Happy 14th birthday dear Glory- and may there be many more!❤🥰

There are some days when I just think I simply cannot take one more sad loss. 😢 💔
This one is a really hard one for me: Was just not yesterday that my wonderful Valkyrie was my most treasured baby-puppy girl? and now she is gone. ...Far too soon. Yesterday she leaned into my lap, on her bed - and was in my loving arms while my local veterinarian helped her gently go to sleep...( thank you Dawn ,for coming home here- and easing my beloved girl's passing in the most compassionate way ) .
Valkyrie's mother is still alive at 14 years and her father passed at 15 .5 years - so it has knocked me sideways to loose Valkyrie a few weeks short of 9 years. Valkyrie was diagnosed with inoperable spindle cell carcinoma a few months ago, but strong as she always was, she carried on in her usual fashion, as if nothing was wrong- for so many weeks, until she finally told me she had had enough...
0ver ThanksGiving weekend she took a sudden turn for the worse- yet thankfully she was not in pain and still wagged her tail and so loved the roasted chicken I hand-fed her- and up until Thanksgiving day she was still busy 'digging her way to China' -making good use of her tremendous "landscaping skills" which she has fine-tuned her whole life. As we today are filling in the holes in our 1 acre fenced yard that to me feels almost sacrilegious...
But mostly I am so very sad because who will now keep her buddy *0la* in line? They were such a closely bonded pair, and he is looking for her today, although both he and her daughter Uni was there, when Valkyrie passed.
I also do wonder who will mentor Uni in how to be the proper benign ruler of our pack- and will little Uni eventually follow in her mom's footsteps?
Valkyrie was such a quiet alpha- but she firmly ruled over all our buhunds... and now they have all lost their "Queen"... and I have lost my darling solid-tempered and funny girl.
May there be many big holes to be dug "in the beyond"- and may there be big fields to hunt endlessly for those "pesky rodents" in - and may there be many metal bowls to chase around and make those extra loud clanking sounds with to keep you forever happy, my darling.
Rest in Peace Valkyrie , and thank you for all the love, for your immensely loyal heart and your phenomenal puppies - and your incredible maternal nurturing skills.
I will miss you forever, my clever girl- and I feel quite lost now- with you gone.💔

We are so happy with our sweet SUNNA who now is formally known as CHAMPI0N Kyon's Lille Lekende Sunniva!

Sunna is yet another titled Flink ( ch Kimura's Flink- Norwegian import) offspring out of our dam Lettie (am/can Grand ch Kyon's Lekende Lett). We could not be more pleased with this young girl ,who at 16 months finished owner-breeder-handler, with multiple major Best of breed wins from the classes.

Sunna herself is fairly bored by the show-ring - so we are now onto training for performance sports for our most brilliantly clever girl.❤

Thank you to John Mairs (at Tamsu learning centre) for all the training classes, and to Ella Anderson and our granddaughter Lilly Barr-Klouman who both help Karin train all our youngsters!

Sometimes it simply takes the eyes of others , to remind me of how blessed I am to be living here , where we have this beautiful land to enjoy and be the stewards of , where we can hike along our many trails with the dogs and train them - and having access to the pond which especially our Goldens love so much!
This weekend we hosted the GRCGT hunt and WC tests - and it was so much fun. I enjoyed every minute- it gave me such pleasure seeing all the dogs work so well ! Thank you Sean and Adelle for continuing the KY0N tradition of making the property available for the community of dog-lovers/trainers.

Time passes in the blink of an eye! 0ur lovely JANE, aka CH Kyon's Baby Jane ( https://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=683620 ) turned 15 years old yesterday- and is now beginning her 16th year in very fine form! She is a truly phenomenal girl, who we hope will impact our breeding program for generations to come!!! Jane gave us 3 robustly healthy litters and has blessed so many homes with her delightful offspring.❤

0ur many thanks go out to Patrica Gagnon , who has had Jane for the past 9 years in her retirement . As hard as it was for us to say goodbye to one of our most favourite girls, we knew Jane would love being a beloved house-pet full time with Pat.

Our Story

Kyon is a small family-run business with tons of experience , having been in the pet-service field for almost 5 decades. We are situated in a great country-setting in the hills of Mono , with lots of room for your pets ( 1 hr northwest of Toronto).

We have bred British style Golden Retrievers under the KYON prefix ( since 1970) and the ancient and unique Norwegian Buhunds (since 1989). Since 1990 we have also provided full service boarding for all breeds and all types of pets . We offer a shuttle service and can pick up and deliver within the GTA area .

Our Golden Retrievers and Norwegian buhunds are bred to be of sweet and highly trainable temperaments, and Kyon is well-known worldwide to have a focus on exceptional longevity as well as health and soundness . Our dogs excel as family pets , but we are also active within a wide varieties of fields of competition. Our dogs do well in conformation showing, obedience and rally, hunt tests, herding , agility , scenting and within the service dog field.
