The most commonly affected teeth are the premolars of the lower jaws (specifically the third premolars). In one study, 53% of the cats in the study had an obvious tooth resorption lesion and almost 50% of the time where no obvious lesion was noted clinically, radiographs (X-rays) revealed one.

Dogs have 6 teeth that have 3 roots! When they need to be extracted our doctors need to split the tooth into 3 parts in order to remove each root individually.

When a pet has a dental cleaning what actually happens? Pets are put under general anesthesia so all of these steps can be performed properly and thoroughly. At Uncas, every patient that goes under anesthesia has a tech dedicated to doing just anesthesia. We obtain full mouth xrays as 60% of the tooth is actually under the gum line. From there a complete oral exam is done. We probe each tooth in several spots, evaluate gingivitis and any other abnormalities. A chart is completed with all of our findings. Then we clean the teeth both above and below the gum line, as well as all sides of each tooth. We finish up with polishing everywhere we cleaned to ensure any micro etches from cleaning are smoothed away. If you have any questions or would like to have your pet's teeth cleaned give us a call!

Conrad was the heart of Momentum, and this practice would not be what it is today without his vision, hard work and leadership.
