Worried about setting a bird feeder and attracting predators? It's a common concern! But remember, our native birds have always had to deal and adapt to avoid their natural predators, but with a little extra care, we can help them stay even safer!

Here are some tips to keep your backyard birds more secure:

🌳 Placement Matters: Position feeders away from fences and trees that cats can climb and use for cover.

🚫 Use Predator Domes and Baffles: These barriers make it tough for predators to reach your feeder.

🐱 Talk with Cat Owners: If you notice cats hanging around your yard, kindly request neighbours to keep their cats indoors or secured for everyone's safety.

Not all human foods are safe for parrots. It's crucial to do your research before adding new items to your parrot's diet, particularly if you are uncertain.

Some common foods that are harmful to parrots include onions, avocado, pits from cherries and other fruits, apple seeds, alcohol, caffeine, to***co as these can be toxic to them.

Your cockatiel might love eating seeds all day, but a seed-only diet isn't the best for their health. Seeds are high in fat and lack important nutrients, which can shorten their life. Even vitamin-coated seeds lose their benefits once the hull is removed.

Preening is a vital grooming activity where birds use their beaks to clean, arrange, and oil their feathers. This helps them remove dirt, parasites, and old feathers while ensuring that their plumage stays waterproof and in perfect flying condition.

Preening also has social aspects; birds often preen each other to strengthen bonds and show affection. When your bird preens you or allows you to gently help, it's a sign of deep trust and love!

Dougie is a spirited blue-headed Pionus parrot, hatched in 2013. He shares his adventures with his best friend, Bobo, a Jardine's parrot. Known for his vibrant personality, Dougie loves flying around, joining the action, and occasionally surprising you with a playful nip.

Showers with a mist bottle are a highlight of his day, and he's a very good healthy eater. While he thrives in adult-only homes, be ready for his VERY loud squawks. Dougie delights in toys he can destroy, like pine wood, wicker, and cardboard.

With Dougie, every day is a fun (and noisy) adventure!
