🌟 Happy Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! 🌟

Let’s celebrate our amazing technicians, Sarah and Erin!

🐾 Sarah is not just a skilled vet tech; she connects with every animal that walks through our doors. Her love for soccer, the Packers, and singing 90s music keeps our spirits high. And let’s not forget her passion for potatoes—she truly brings joy to our team!

🐾 Erin is dedicated to her craft and excels in handling our patients. With three large rescue dogs of her own, she understands the needs of our furry friends. Her love for Crocs and reality TV brings a fun vibe to the clinic, and her excellent communication with clients ensures everyone feels cared for.

Thank you, Sarah and Erin, for your unwavering dedication and love for this profession. Your hard work makes a world of difference! ❤️

We are freshening up our reception area to try and make Jen and Alisons days brighter and more convenient when stocking food.
This might mean you might see a few extra people and there might be a little more noise than usual around the clinic.
We will ensure your pets appointment is still as quiet and stress free as possible during our renovation.

We are excited for the updates!

Henry came in yesterday after making friends with a porcupine. His mom brought him in and we sedated him and removed about 40 quills from his nose and quite a few from the roof of his mouth. Mom reports that he is doing well today.

Fun fact
• Quills are modified hairs and are covered with scales that act like fishhook barbs, causing the quills to keep moving inward, deeper into the tissue. Porcupine quills can puncture the skin and move through muscle, ultimately penetrating body cavities and internal organs. Because the quills carry bacteria with them, once they pe*****te the skin they can act as a source of infection and cause abscesses.
• Porcupines cannot shoot their quills at an assailant. That said, the quills are easily pulled from the porcupine’s skin once they make contact with an attacker. Porcupines will also use their quill-filled tail like a club, swinging it at a potential threat.
• Cutting Quills to make them easier to remove is a myth and actually can cause more complications
• Unfortunately, most dogs who get into trouble with porcupines do not learn from their mistakes. The best defense against porcupine quills is prevention. Avoid allowing the dogs to roam at dusk or after dark and prevent them from going into areas with known porcupine dens.

Stay safe out there 🦔🦔🦔

Marley tried to make friends with a bee today and unfortunately that feeling was not reciprocated. Marley had an allergic reaction to the sting and her mom brought her by when she noticed her face swelling.

Dr. Lawrence gave her some injectable medications to stop the reaction and reduce swelling. Within about ten minutes her face started coming down and she was able to go home and rest.

If you notice your dog having an allergic reaction and their face swells or their breathing seems altered, please seek immediate veterinary attention like Marley!
