Vaccines, or any medication for that matter can be heavy on the body.
A healthy dog's body generally can clear itself of most toxins through the liver, faeces and urine. However, for less fit dogs, elderly or simply as a boost to healthy individuals, eating the correct foods after a vaccine appointment or while undergoing a cycle of medications can be of support to cleanse the body.
The liver is a powerful organ, it performs a variety of essential tasks and keeping your dog's liver in good shape is important for maintaining his overall health.
Recommended foods to support liver function:
* Fatty fish: contain healthy fats that help reduce inflammation in the liver.
* Blueberries and Cranberries: high in antioxidants, which help protect the liver from damage.
* Cruciferous vegetables: broccoli and Brussels sprouts help increase the liverโs natural detoxification enzymes and protect it from damage.
* Extra Virgin Olive oil: helps decrease the levels of fat in the liver, increase blood flow, and improve liver enzyme levels.
* Turmeric: helps the enzymes that flush out toxins and contains antioxidants that repair liver cells. It assists the liver in detoxing metals, while boosting bile production.
* Probiotics and Prebiotics: effectively attenuate liver disease as well as improve liver function.
(Remember, it's important to feed new foods responsibly as some foods may interact with certain medications)
People want the answers to health to be clear cut, definitive.โฃ
Nutrition is one of the most complicated subjects.
Itโs never as simple as carbohydrates are bad and fat is healthy or unhealthy.
Carbohydrates aren't the sole cause of the obesity epidemic or other health-related issues. Itโs the mixture of processed fats and processed, poorly chosen carbs together. One problem I see for healthy adult dogs and cats is the over-consumption of processed carbs and fat over protein. โฃ
โฃ
โIf you look at a fast food meal, itโs not just the soda and processed carbs; itโs everything being fried in bad fats like vegetable oils.โ Similarly, kibble diets are very processed, and some brands donโt include the healthiest ingredients. This is something to think about and look into. However, it is possible to feed healthier kibble and improve the diet with fresh food.
โฃ
โฃIf your pet is ill, have you looked into whether your pet is consuming meat from healthy animals raised on pasture that hasnโt been given antibiotics or hormone injections? Is the meat in your pets kibble or raw meal sourced well?
Is your pet consuming healthy carbs like seasonal vegetables and seasonal fruits โฃwith little pesticides? What does your pet consume? โฃ
โฃ
Some pets donโt do well with any kind of high carb diet, such as kibble. Some pets donโt do well with high-fat meals. Some pets donโt do well on high or low protein diets, depending on their health and certain illnesses. โฃ
โฃ
โThat doesnโt mean carbs are bad or that fat is bad, or that protein is bad. to health
โฃ
Instead of listening to online trends and โkeyboard gurus,โ read books and become educated by respectable people who can back up their claims with rational logic stemming from science.
If you feed a ๐ฏ% dry dog food diet your dog will stay in a state of chronic dehydration putting strain on the dogโs organs.
It is normal for a dogโs body to gain and lose water throughout the day. Panting, breathing, urinating, defecating, and evaporation through the paws all contribute to normal water loss, which your dog compensates for by eating and drinking.
Feeding a natural diet they already have moisture in their food !!
IF you feed Kibble PLEASE let it soak for at least 20 minutes BEFORE feeding , you will see how it doubles in size !! That is what it does in your dogs stomach , that is why Kibble fed dogs NEED to drink so much WATER !!!
Helping picking up parts at NAPA
Many pet owners donโt understand what an over or underweight dog is. We need to educate on what it is and how dangerous it can be. Keep in mind that every breed is different, so you canโt judge all dogs the same. All medical issues should be addressed first. The terms are generalized, so lean, conditioned, well-muscled, and fit could mean the same thing to different owners. #

Even though you are feeding the best dog food on the market, commercial food by nature lacks many important nutrients, which are replaced by synthetic counterparts, and itโs filled with preservatives, chemicals and artificial additives.
Just like humans, dogs need to eat a healthy and balanced diet to thrive.
Some benefits of a healthy, whole, nutrition include:
๐พ Promotes Overall Well-Being And Endurance
๐พ Boosts Immune System

dogs over age 10 develop cancer)
๐พ Maintains a Healthy Body Weight
๐พ Maintains Healthy Digestion
๐พ Improves Quality Function Of Every System in the Body
๐พ Increases Life Span

Collard Greens have so many beneficial ingredients for Dogs ....and People ;)
Dark leafy greens are considered superfoods. They have a dense nutritional profile and can provide a variety of great benefits to your dog. They are rich in glucosinolates which are thought to inhibit the growth of certain cancers. They have lots of magnesium which is great for your dogโs brain and heart health. Leafy greens also contain iron which helps deliver oxygen to the blood which promotes energy and wellness. Finally, leafy greens are loaded with soluble fibre which can help your dog if they have sensitive digestion.
Collard greens are one of the darkest leafy greens so they tend to be extra rich in nutrients. Collard greens contain vitamin A for skin and eye health, vitamin K for blood and bone health, vitamin C for immunity, and a range of B vitamins for energy. They also contains high levels of manganese which helps control blood sugar and supports energy production and calcium for bone health.
Get Collard Greens for the whole family! For Dogs, collard greens should be lightly braised in a healthy fat with apple cider vinegar or steamed and then they can be thrown into a food processor for small amounts and increased digestibility.
Lack of exercise and mental stimulation in our companions will contribute to anxiety-related problems and will lead to attention-seeking and destructive behaviors. โ
Puppies have a higher requirement for some nutrients during the development stages, which are essential for their growth... This is what you need to pay particular attention to:
1. ๐๐ฆ๐๐ ๐-๐ ๐
๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฌ are vital to ensure proper cognitive development and health. They are necessary for brain development during the time in every dogโs life that their brain is developing the most.
2. During the puppy-stage, bones grow quickly and ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ are important minerals for puppies' skeletal system development. Excesses or deficiencies can both lead to skeletal problems, so feeding the right amount of both is very important. For healthy adult dogs, the ratio of Calcium to Phosphorus is 1:1, but in puppies, that balance should be slightly adjusted to 1.2-1.4:1 in favour of Calcium.
3. Puppies grow rapidly, that's why they require a ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ค๐. The majority of calories should come from meats and healthy fats to help build muscle mass and to support brain functions. In general, puppies should eat about 2-3% of their expected adult body weight daily.
If you would like to switch to a fresh, healthy, nutritious home-cooked (or raw) diet and you would like to kick start with a comprehensive and personalized meal recipe that includes all the nutrients your pup needs... Don't hesitate to get in touch!
๐Fish? YES Please!
๐Fish is a great addition to your dog's diet.
1) OILY FISH: an excellent natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids, essential for a healthy coat and healthy skin.
Omega-3 fatty acids also provide a natural anti-inflammatory component, which can be very beneficial to dogs who suffer from IBS, or joint diseases such as arthritis.
Omega-3 also help maintain a healthy brain and cardiovascular system.
๐ Best sources: salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring
- Do not overfeed, as too much fat can counterbalance the benefits of feeding oily fish. Once to three times per week will be sufficient, roughly 90-100g of oily fish for a 5kg dog.
2) WHITE FISH: contain less Omega-3 fatty acids than oily fish, but it's still a great source of proteins and nutrients.
Easier to digest than meat, perfect for those periods where lighter meals are needed.
White fish can also provide a novel protein for dogs, particularly beneficial in managing and reducing food allergies.
Moreover, whitefish is low in fat, perfect for dogs who require a diet with a moderate amount of fats.
๐Best sources: cod, haddock.
- If your dog's require an hypoallergenic diet, white fish can be a daily ingredient of his meals.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Rotate the fish you feed.
- Do not substitute fish with fish oil.
- Preferably avoid feeding fish with hard bones especially to smaller dogs.
- Choose responsibly sourced fish from less polluted locations.
- Avoid those types of fish that may also be high in mercury or other contaminants. King mackerel, tilefish, swordfish, shark and bigeye tuna are all very high in mercury and are unsafe to feed.
- Opt for wild-caught fish, as farmed fish tends to be lower in important nutrients, like Omega-3 fatty acids. Some studies have also found that farmed fish contains higher levels of toxins and contaminants.
Some people are very strict when it comes to fresh feeding Dogs that listening to them can over whelm you and put you off taking that all important first step into the natural feeding world.
But, the truth is, fresh feeding to your dog can look like whatever you want it to... whether thatโs diving feet first into a whole fresh food diet, or simply adding some power additions to your dogโs current bowl.
The fresh food scale can be tailored daily or over time to suit your own needs and budgets, whatโs important is that you get some fresh foods in the diet in some way....and it doesnโt matter if your fresh food journey changes sometimes either.
Always remember some is better than none! So donโt let complicated meal plans stop you from adding those vital fresh foods to your dogs diet!
Thank you deep creek veterinarian services for making shermann's vet visit so much fun !
A lot of people donโt know where the ingredients for their petโs food comes from. ๐ค
Carnivora is the only pet food in Canada that starts with procurement of live animals from our prairie producers. We process them the same way your meat is prepared at the butcher. We harvest all the carcass edibles and combine them into our whole animal diets and dinners the way nature intended. We donโt use meat trims combined with other ingredients and formulate a recipe. We are your whole animal diet specialists!
โ
During preparation, we donโt mix different species or their organ meats.
โ
We donโt combine one type of species with another.
โ
Our diets are not considered high in fat which can displace nutrient density.
You cannot expect a healthy dog if he is not fed a healthy diet.
COMMERCIAL DOG FOOD IS SIMPLY PROCESSED FOOD.โ
FEEDING YOUR DOG COMMERCIAL FOOD IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A HUMAN EATING FAST FOOD DAILY, WHILE SWALLOWING A FEW PILLS OF SYNTHETIC VITAMINS.โ
โ
NOT HEALTHY !!
Health is more closely related to food than to anything else, and you cannot expect a healthy dog if he is not fed a healthy diet.โ
Every dog is different, but the best starting point for any dog is to eat the highest-quality balanced diet possible.
Prevention is always the best choice and many canine illnesses can be prevented starting from the foundation: YOUR DOG IS WHAT HE EATS !
โ
Just as we humans can choose to invest in our health (or not), we have to make the same choices for our pets. And thatโs the thing - your petโs preventative health care is an ๐พinvestment๐พ, NOT an expense. What you put in is what you will get out.
๐พA Dogs Jaw is biologically designed to tear flesh and crunch bones, its natures way of cleaning their teeth.
๐You may have noticed that your Dogs jaw has several features that make it perfect for them to eat raw meaty bones.
๐พThe apprehension of prey, shearing of flesh and crunching of bones provides the right amount of exercise for the jaw muscles, body and mind; massages the gums, and provides enough friction for the prevention of plaque and tartar build up on the teeth.
๐The toughness of raw flesh and bone means that your dog has to work their oral cavity hard in order to keep their teeth clean and really doesnโt compare to any other method of teeth cleaning.
๐Examples of great raw bones , duck feet, chicken feet, turkey necks, duck necks, chicken necks, neck bones
๐พYou know what doesnโt provide a challenge for the oral cavity?
๐พHigh sugar, high starch, soft, & chewy dental sticks with no nutritional value!!! #
Donโt be scared of bacteria on raw dog food !!
Obviously a species that eats poo, lick bums, eats rotten dead things and drinks puddle water is able to deal with bacteria.
In fact E. coli, Salmonella, campylobacter are regularly identified in healthy dogโs intestines
Your child is more likely to eat kibble and get sick than by eating raw food.
The only way you get sick, is if you eat their food or their poo. DON'T DO THAT !!!๐
๐พDogs who aren't fed an appropriate amount of calcium can show signs of restlessness and aggression.
๐พA high-carbohydrate commercial diet can cause aggression and mood swings in dogs while chemicals and additives can cause hyperactivity and allergy reactions.
Though dogs have evolved through domestication, some of their requirements are still very much alike to their ancestors.
๐พNatural fresh diets, without added synthetics, preservatives and chemicals, are less stressful to the digestive system.
๐พOn top of the questionable ingredients present in commercial dog food, feeding always the same kind of food can become boring to dogs. Boredom causes a monotony effect to dogs, if that occurs dogs could refuse to eat even if they're hungry - and we all know that a hungry dog, will not be a well-behaved dog but very likely anxious and possibly aggressive.
๐พDogs too are what they eat.
๐พFeed foods that are highly nutritious, not high in dangerous synthetic supplements, chemicals and starchy carbs.
Feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have regarding your dog's diet๐
Mixing Kibble and Raw ....Can you do it ??
๐พYes, you can do it. Some people cannot feed their dog only raw food, or it isn't practical for them. Whether they travel alot, freezer space, financial constraints ( if no allergies this shouldn't be a reason) or for some other reason even a small amount of fresh raw food added to a dog's diet can drastically increase their digestion, health and give them lots of important nutrients.
๐พ If you are feeding kibble start adding raw food into their bowl but start slowly every dog is different and reacts differently.
Scary side of kibble for dogs, Be careful what is in your bowl
๐ Most kibble is loaded with corn, a cheap filler. Corn syrup and oil in pet food can contribute to diabetes.
๐Puppies raised on kibble have a HUGE change of becoming atopic dermatitis
