Shenanigans in the ring tonight
Hopped on this ole boy, he loved it!
He tolerates me so much lol
The things they allow us to do … lol
Day 4
lol
“Good job, I’m tired”
I have to laugh because what we did truly was not exhaustive on his part at all, learning to lunge, learning lateral flexion, backing, being told to NOT get too close and risk being stepped on, (it’s like having a 8-900 lb toddler wanting to be in your space at all times 🤪) but dang my back was not so happy! Worth it. This boy is the sweetest.
Day 3
Here is a cute video, he will get pretty used to dogs and kids that’s for sure!
As some of you know, I signed up for and was accepted to do a Standardbred retraining challenge, called Reinventing Racehorses Trainers Challenge. I have no idea the horse I will get, I know nothing. He or she is arriving TOMORROW!
I have 60 days to build a partnership and then test our partnership out doing (a lot) of finale tests.
In our intro video we were asked to answer what we believe our biggest challenge is, and I’m not worried about the horse, I am confident that I can build a partnership with him or her, and I’m only slightly worried about the finale tests, even the dressage test, despite never having much interest in learning (although it is basically a fancy way to present your horsemanship)-although the terms I will have to study and the rules(and I’m not meaning to downplay the absolute dedication, time and skill it takes to build a dressage horse, just saying that I will try very hard, ask for help when needed and just do what I can do to the best of my ability)-but I am most nervous that I won’t remember to pace myself. Break up training and chores into even smaller sessions so I don’t end up unable to walk from the couch to bed in the evening!
It’s just easier said than done-this (learning to live with a chronic illness) has been the biggest challenge I have ever faced believe it or not.
I also have the absolute best helpers who selflessly help clean stalls, feed, drag hoses, open gates, and bring in and put out horses (and whom will be asked to help take videos lol…. you all know who you are! So, stay tuned for our first meeting video tomorrow!! And laugh with me at this hilariously awkward intro video!

Poor girl was tired, one last go before the end, but I wasn’t paying attention and there were tree branches bahahaha
There is something I can’t explain that happens to me on the back of a horse. Every worry drifts away and I just can’t help but smile.
