Poor Denni, high fever today. Vet is treating for anaplasmosis-another thing ticks can give us and horses. Watch your horses carefully!
Let’s hope treatment works!!

🏇💥 Check out the Obstacle Course Finale video from Holly & Thee Impressionist! It’s a vastly different type of ride as they take these amazing Standardbreds through some crazy challenges, proving these athletes have more than one career in them!

🎥 Just a little “technical glitch” getting videos uploaded for our virtual finale… apparently, even our tech can’t keep up with these horses! Who knew the biggest obstacle would be buffering? 😂

Dressage finale test done!
We did it at a walk only!
Midway through I had a rough time. I did not realize that my chronic illness has left me unable to be as fit, and that there is just no ignoring it. I have struggled keeping up, we missed a lot of days. But, grieving who I was is ok, and Denni doesn’t care if we work every day or if we take many breaks. He is just happy to go on adventures with me!
Life really does suck sometimes. Especially when your mind and body are not on the same page and you’re still too young to be like this!!

I am behind on posts about this guy!
It has been a tough three weeks. I was very sore, and am behind on the training. I was down on myself, but this guy doesn’t care. He runs to the gate, he nickers at me. He cheers me up, he keeps me on my toes. He has helped me more than I have helped him I think. So, when asked if I wanted to adopt him, I couldn’t help but say yes. I was not planning on it at all. I was so proud to offer him to a loving home who would love and enjoy him. I wasn’t prepared for him helping me this much. I stand by what I said, everyone needs a standardbred in their life, even me!

What a wonderful day to spend enjoying beautiful trails and amazing horses!
Denni you are fantastic, 2nd trail ride, with some advanced hills and while you were quite afraid of downed trees, stumps and the odd chipmunk you looked sideways at, you didn’t bolt, you didn’t rear, buck, or really do anything other than what any other unconfident horse would do and look at things, and take some extra encouragement. In time you will be one heck of a trail horse! He led almost the whole way, with a few times we needed to follow, but ears perked up the entire time!
So exciting!
Moose and Tia Rotzal Tenney first trail ride and they were amazing! Yay!!

Weeeeeeeeeeee edited to add-wear your helmet! I am dumb, don’t be dumb.
lol
Day 22 (Tuesday) and we were working on steering at the walk, developing the “go”
button, refining the “stop” cues and then I was encouraged to trot over these rails, and he did it! He is so so so darn sweet.
He has a new barn name! It is Denni 🙂
My favourite movie growing up was both The Man From Snowy River, and the sequel Return to Snowy River. I watched them so many times! In the movie, Jim Craig played by Tom Burlinson is given Denni, a bucksin, tough as nails gelding. He is faithful and shaped Tom as a rider, as before these movies he did not ride! I always wanted a buckskin I could call Denni, but, even if he doesn’t stay with me, he will always be a Denni to me.

Day 11 and we did more saddle fitting and sadly I do not have a western that fits him, and an English Wintec that does but needs a dressage girth, which I don’t have, yet. Will have to pick one up, and maybe look for a western. Please money tree, where are you? lol
Part of the finale is a jump course consisting of 8 jumps. While I’ve never competed in jumping, I have helped horses gain confidence by first walking over rails together, and then lunging over obstacles, I try to make it casual, as if all of a sudden there is an obstacle in our way, and horses will either stop and say nope! Or they will just jump over without thinking the human is forcing the issue, until they learn to just tackle any obstacle thrown at them with bravery and confidence, hopefully making them good jumping partners. Worked a few times now ;)
Sometimes they scare themselves after, and that’s ok, because we just do it again calmly.
I have to share this photo the amazing Tia took because it is not him jumping over like he is some excellent jumper, he is jumping like this because he was actually quite nervous of the obstacle being presented to him at a trot and without a human next to him. He panicked and jumped far higher than he needed too. I know he will become more confident as we go along. Still, the poor lad would have jumped out his boots if he had any! Every day we work will have obstacles and lunging obstacles from now on. You can never do too many!

Day 8
We did a thing today. My parents are here for a visit, and wanted to go for an e-bike ride. So, after deciding I would take Mr impressionist for a walk with friends.
He did excellent!
This boy truly is a sweetheart. Go Standardbreds!
