To maintain an attached, supple balance of your seat …

Imagine your stirrups are like a trampoline. You cannot brace into a trampoline, but if you keep your ankles, knees and hips soft and able to bend, you can maintain your balance on the trampoline.

Stephany Fish Crossman is a USDF bronze and silver medalist as well as one of only nine accredited coaches for Mary Wanless’ Ride With Your Mind Biomechanics System in the U.S. She is currently based in Brooksville, Florida, with her husband, Chris, who is a cattle rancher; her two horses that she’s taking up the levels; and her pet cows.

So I am pulling the plug on the Royal trip. I just could not get enough to fill the bus and pay for the bus. I will be sending out refunds but it will take a minute so don't get too impatient. I can give you the Royal ticket if you can find your own way down there.

For those who have never been on this bus trip. We go every year. The price includes the bus down and back same day (yes it is a very long day) entry into the Royal and the evening performance tickets. Dressage is on the menu I see for Tuesday the 5th. Yes it is a Tuesday, take the day off work and the next day too if you are smart. But hey you don't have to drive and you don't have to park! For those who have never been the the Royal Winter Fair, consider this your gateway drug. There is so much to see and do, you will not be bored, maybe just tired. There is a Superdog type show, shopping food, goats, cows, etc. and the horse shows! St. Lawrence and Ottawa Valley Pony Club is the Sponsor of this event.

This needs to be said, and you all know who you are. If you are at a public place like a fair BEHAVE. Riding through the midway is UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care how well behaved your horses are, you don't carry enough insurance for what may happen and if it did happen ALL HORSES would be BANNED from ALL FAIRS.
Do not let your children gallop around all over the fairgrounds, stick to the warm up area and the ring. Do not ride your horse all day, get off him!
DO NOT LET anyone who is not registered to, ride your horse at the fair. No ba****ck halter flip flop aunti rides. NO NO NO.
Do not BEAT your horse, ever, but especially in public at the fair. IF you have to hit it , 2 hits maybe and then get off and go away.
I actually can't believe it needs to be said, but here we are.
Stop behaving like entitled s*its. It is a privilege to ride a horse, and a privilege to be at the fair to show them off. P**s off enough people and that fair won't happen.
P**s of the wrong person and they might video you and plaster you on social media so be careful and considerate always.

Small Barn, Big Heart

Here at our humble farm we strive to teach both rider and horse a better way forward. Trying to seek the positive and ignore the negative. We train our horses with Clicker training which is a positive reinforcement training tool with a science background. It is the only training tool that can say it is backed by science.

It makes our horses happy and willing to express what is bothering them and more willing to work and trust their trainers because they know they will be heard.

Our riders get to ride well schooled horses in private lessons, and very quickly get to learn loads of fancy techniques. Our goal is to create independent riders who can deal with problems and not have to mask them or ride in fear.

Our barn is often very quiet and it allows for borders to be able to have quiet bonding with their horse. There is no rush here. We slow things down, we let you and the horse relax.
