Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage everyone to take the time to learn about, and reflect on, the legacy of the Residential School system, and the survivors, families and communities that continue to be affected, including in our own community.
Bosley’s Sooke recognizes that our stores sit on historical and current Indigenous lands, the dispossession of which has prevented Indigenous Peoples from exercising their social, economic, and cultural rights and disrupted relationships and treaties between humans and non-human kin.
Indigenous Peoples have stewarded these lands under many different names for millennia, and we appreciate that the places we and our pets feel connected to are still here for us to enjoy because of that care.
Specifically, these lands are the unceded traditional and shared territories of the T’Sou-ke Nation, SC'IA⁄NEW (Beecher Bay) Nation as well as the W̱SÁNEĆ and Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla tribes.
How would our relationships and communities be different had residential schools not existed, and had Indigenous pupils been given the same chances as their non-Indigenous peers? How can our relationships and communities look different moving forward?
And, to our Indigenous customers and community members, we see you.
