It's been a good while for sweet lady Jenny. But she was a perfect angel for her much needed sprucing up๐ซง
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who voted for us in the 2024 Times Colonist Readers' Choice Awards. We are proud to announce that we have placed 2nd in the Dog Daycare category and have been recognized as a finalist in the Pet Care Services category. Thank you for your continued support and trust in our services. We look forward to serving you and your pets for years to come.๐
Happy 2nd birthday to my sweet dingo! I'm so grateful for this sweet little soul and all he is teaching me. We have done a million hikes, participated in a few seminars, and achieved 2 scentwork titles this year. Plans for 2025 include hopefully trialing in Obedience, more nosework, possibly more herding. We had a bit of a damper on things with his back/leg issue. We have appointments set up in the new year for more thorough diagnosis - hopefully we will see where we stand. I love this amazing dog and can't wait to see what the next year holds for us as a team.
Thank you so much to @westcoastphotomagnets for the amazing work, creating our gifts this year for our dayschool pups. Check out this local Sooke business! We are so happy with how these turned out!

Wishing everyone a safe evening!๐ธ๐ท๐ป๐
Positions in the kitchen. Kaia wanted to be part of it so badly.๐คฃ
Our 9 year old husky/rotti mix weighs a little over 50lbs. She USUALLY gets a little less than 1 cup of kibble, morning and night. Her weight is perfect. I don't always feed her the same amount every day. This is because the days may vary. She may get more exercise and training, or she may have a chill day.
One of the common problems overweight dogs are dealing with is the same food amount, even on quieter days.
People aren't accounting for the extra treats they are adding in daily.
Most owners are following what the recommendation on the bag says, instead of looking at their dog and using judgment.
Overfeeding isn't love. It can be just as cruel as starving an animal.
Most owners dont realize or simply dont take it seriously when they are told to reduce their dog's food. This is another way we can rule out potential health issues.
So for your dog's sake and your pocket... adjust their food accordingly.
The video broken down.
My point for making this video: not many people can spot these subtle cues.
I'd say many traditional doggy daycares wouldn't.
This is how dogs get bullied. And in some cases, become reactive.
There is a huge difference between "dog lovers" and "dog havers."
I'd argue that most handlers that compete in various degrees of sport etc, are more honed in on this skill. It is often slowly built. Spending time with handlers with more experience, is the best way to grow.
It's important to ask the questions. The well-intentioned dog lovers providing a service, are not always going to be reading body language properly.
How many dogs are within their care? Do they have rest periods? Is it a mix of all young dogs or some older? Is it simply a place for dogs to go nuts and then crash hard, only to do it again? Are they engaging in mental activity/learning? Are they having fun? How long have they been working with dogs and in what setting?
We are currently seeing oversaturation. Everyone wants to work with dogs and be a care provider. Few have experience. Few have feel. Few want to grow.
Behaviour quiz! What is going on in this video?
Rainy days make for more training activities inside. While the rain poured down, each of our dayschoolers pup multiple fun sessions in๐ง
