It's raining yorkies around here lately- we've currently got five of them in care with a few more on the way soon. Wowza!

And this little lady- she's just as her name suggests- PRECIOUS ❤️.

At 9 years old, this senior lady found herself in shelter when her person passed away and family/friends were unable to take her in.

MAKE A PLAN FOR YOUR PETS. TODAY. Not tomorrow- do not wait. Do it today.

Luckily for Precious, she ended up in one of our partner shelters. This means a second chance. And a quick exit from a high stress situation too. We LOVE our partners!

Precious has been a well loved lady- she's super sweet, loves both cats & dogs,
house trained and already spayed. This week, we took care of her intake vetting to bring that back up to date & she's headed for a spa day to shed a lot of that overgrown fur. And finally, after Christmas (we've- got such a massive line up for our fosters and their dental needs)- she'll head back to the vet for a full dental to clean up those pearly whites (we expect there to be several extractions too because, well, she's a yorkie)

Side bar: almost all small dogs need dentals at some point in their lives. Those little teeth seem to collect the grossness easily- ew!

With donations from the awesome people below, our Precious is on her way to new beginnings ahead:

Linda Horner
Brian Whitelaw
Robert Kendall

Terrie Domelo

One glow up coming your way Precious! Welcome to Happy's Place ❤️.

All aboard the hot mess express! It's Boo ❤️

Surrendered to a shelter by his previous family when unable to afford his care, he's a total train wreck in medical needs at the moment. But he's also spunky, playful, happy and totally sweet- and we're 100% up for the job!

These are dogs that are recommended for euthanasia in shelter because of the number of resources they take up. Thank goodness- taking up resources is our specialty 😆.

At 11 years old:

-glaucoma & an ulcer - deep!
-needs a dental- severe state!
-in need of a neuter
-heart murmur (needs heart work up)
-ear infections
-eye infections
-needs all vetting brought up to date
-and long nails
-Quickly removed from a drug called diclofenac which although helps with arthritis has way too many dangerous side effects for use! He's soooo much better away from this.

Boo has been neglected for a long time to be in such a state. These conditions are incredibly painful to bare. Yet he's the happiest little peanut who just wants to soak up love ❤️

None of this happened overnight. If you welcome a pet, medical care will absolutely be required at some point in their life. I'm grateful his family finally left him at that shelter though- because now, he's got the opportunity to feel good again.

And I'm also grateful to each of you out there who help us to say yes to dogs like Boo. Because without you- the honest truth- it's the end of the line for a lot of them.

And to the following heroes- you'll help Boo find pain free living ♡

Angela Wong
Krystin Graves (Simply Fetching Pet Furtography)
Bill & Cathy Knapp (Happy birthday Derek)
Peihua Hung
Robert Maier
Ronalee Porter
Maral Ashdjian
Brenton Austin
Deborah Fisher

Kathleen Kennedy
Claryn Wheeler

So thank you for helping us to make second chances happen- because Boo- he's got a lot of playing and dog-ging left to do ❤️.

Welcome to Happy's Place!

Meet Comey, a sweet 10-year-old French Bulldog mix who recently lost everything he's ever known. After his beloved owner passed away, Comey came into our care this past weekend as a surrender.

This gentle senior is facing some serious health challenges. Comey is completely blind and has been suffering from painful eye conditions. After consultation with our veterinarian, we've determined that the kindest option is to remove both eyes to finally give him relief from his pain. He also needs dental surgery.

The transition has been understandably difficult for Comey. He's anxious and struggling to adjust to his new surroundings—especially without his sight to guide him. But there's hope: his incredible foster parents have been showing him endless patience and love, and he's already beginning to settle in and trust again.

Comey deserves a pain-free future, and we need your help to give it to him. The cost of his eye removal surgery and dental work is significant, and we rely entirely on donations to provide medical care for animals like Comey.

To donate to Comey's surgeries, you can send an etransfer to [email protected] or via PayPal.

Please consider donating or sharing Comey's story. Thank you for helping us help him. ❤️

Sasha is a 9 month old Corgi who is from a puppy mill in southern Ontario. Sasha, along with a couple of her littermates, were not sold by the commercial breeder so he got "stuck" with them. As noted in an earlier post, the market is saturated to overflowing with unwanted dogs.

If you are looking to add a dog to your family, please, please think adoption first. Either from a shelter or a reliable, responsible dog rescue. Not all rescues are created equally, and there are people out there who disguise themselves as ethical rescues but they are far from it. They don't vet the dogs, spay or neuter them, give accurate personality profiles, or house them in loving foster homes. There are even some groups that have changed their name 3 or 4 times to avoid being tracked and investigated by provincial animal welfare agents.

While there are plans in the wings to create a dog rescue association, we are not quite there yet. Here's a quick AI overview on how to identify a reliable dog rescue:

A responsible dog rescue screens potential adopters thoroughly, provides full veterinary records, and offers ongoing support. Key indicators of a trustworthy organization include transparency about their finances and practices, a commitment to matching the right dog with the right home, and a willingness to take a dog back if the adoption doesn't work out.

Sasha is now available for adoption and you can read more about her at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/available-dogs/
