My love for rabbits began back in high school, when my parents took a two week cruse I took to opportunity to go to the local humane society and adopt a pet rabbit. I called him Oreo, he was a cute little mutt rabbit and I treasured him very much. I grew up and got married and seemed to always have a rabbit around the house. From Oreo to Spook, and many other treasured pets the list continues rabbits have been a part of my life. I started breeding bunnies because of one rabbit that really has stuck out. His name is Finnic, I rescued him from a messy situation over 6 years ago now, Finnic has a wonderful personality and I was asked by a friend if I would consider breeding him because of his wonderful temperament and kind nature. I never thought about breeding rabbits before. Our family while I was in middle school bred CKC pugs, so I called up my mom to ask her what her thoughts where. She gave me this advice that has stuck with my through the years. “ Do it right and do it well” So I did many hours of research and contacted a few breeders and even a rescue, they all told me I had no business breeding rabbits, and I was foolish to try. So in my mind that was just the challenge I needed to try it out. So I became a member of the american rabbit breeders association. I looked for a doe that I could pair with my Finnic and started the adventure of breeding Netherland Dwarfs. I learned much from that first year of trial and error. Finnics litters sold quickly and people loved the babies he produced . Finnics lines traveled all over Canada! He went and lived with a very good friend of mine Deneen in Lethbridge for a while and helped out her program, He is a cool colour for Netherlands and this colour has carried through to many of his offspring. Finnic is a old man now and is happily retired from the breeding world. Back in high school I went to petland and felt the fur of a mini rex rabbit, I fell in love and wonder why it took me so long to get one. Southern Belle was my first Mini rex, She is a sweet heart of a mini rex and has given me wonderful litters and shown her self also. She is also retired now. I love mini rex and have loved working with many lines over the years and have worked hard to cultivated and achieve the standard of perfection and ideal mini rex rabbit. Seven years later, I am getting closer and closer to that goal. Our rabbitry shows and rasies mini rex, holland lops, and eventually will get back into netherland dwarfs. I love the challenge and enjoyment of raising rabbits, I love the genetics and the planning needed. I love showing and seeing how I can improve. The different breeds fascinates me and I cannot say ill do one breed forever because the challenge is just too irresistible. I love mentoring other breeders like my self and still love to place my young rabbits into the arms of loving families.
