A few years ago our world stopped with a very serious cancer diagnosis of John. I remeber everything about that day painfully clearly. Since having his first griff Ruby a decade ago he has always wanted to share this breed with others. Along side our fight with cancer our focus shifted and we would fight for life’s treasures and opportunities. Hold back and wait for better timing or hold out for a someday. We became TODAY people real quick. We believe strongly in two things as a couple. Birthdays are a big deal and dreams are not just for sleeping. With remission now in view, we moved quickly into play in obtaining our dream of raising wirehaired pointing griffons. Flights, football games, hours behind the wheel and hundreds of miles spent on the road with precious memories made we build our dream together it hasn’t alway been easy at all there’s been real challenges but we work together and build each other up as much as possible. Are we crazy YUP! Do we live a little differently absolutely but it’s our journey and we are having a blast.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours from coal creek acres! Thank you for sharing in our journey of 2023 with us!

With these drastic weather changes, Colic prevention comes to the fore front of my mind! With horses eating more hay it take a lot more water intake from their digestive track to digest the larger amount of hay consumption. Keeping these big guys drinking is a critical part of colic prevention. Supplying a salt block or giving a tablespoon with a small amount of grain can really help your horse drink more water. Dividing hay rations into two or even three smaller feeding is also wise council. I also recommend keeping their big bodies moving! Weather that is lunging them or going for a ride up the road! Take care to watch for the signs your horse might be in trouble from the list of symptoms below. Be sure to call your vet if you have any concerns or colic related questions.

Do it right and do it well

My love for rabbits began back in high school, when my parents took a two week cruse I took to opportunity to go to the local humane society and adopt a pet rabbit. I called him Oreo, he was a cute little mutt rabbit and I treasured him very much. I grew up and got married and seemed to always have a rabbit around the house. From Oreo to Spook, and many other treasured pets the list continues rabbits have been a part of my life. I started breeding bunnies because of one rabbit that really has stuck out. His name is Finnic, I rescued him from a messy situation over 6 years ago now, Finnic has a wonderful personality and I was asked by a friend if I would consider breeding him because of his wonderful temperament and kind nature. I never thought about breeding rabbits before. Our family while I was in middle school bred CKC pugs, so I called up my mom to ask her what her thoughts where. She gave me this advice that has stuck with my through the years. “ Do it right and do it well” So I did many hours of research and contacted a few breeders and even a rescue, they all told me I had no business breeding rabbits, and I was foolish to try. So in my mind that was just the challenge I needed to try it out. So I became a member of the american rabbit breeders association. I looked for a doe that I could pair with my Finnic and started the adventure of breeding Netherland Dwarfs. I learned much from that first year of trial and error. Finnics litters sold quickly and people loved the babies he produced . Finnics lines traveled all over Canada! He went and lived with a very good friend of mine Deneen in Lethbridge for a while and helped out her program, He is a cool colour for Netherlands and this colour has carried through to many of his offspring. Finnic is a old man now and is happily retired from the breeding world. Back in high school I went to petland and felt the fur of a mini rex rabbit, I fell in love and wonder why it took me so long to get one. Southern Belle was my first Mini rex, She is a sweet heart of a mini rex and has given me wonderful litters and shown her self also. She is also retired now. I love mini rex and have loved working with many lines over the years and have worked hard to cultivated and achieve the standard of perfection and ideal mini rex rabbit. Seven years later, I am getting closer and closer to that goal. Our rabbitry shows and rasies mini rex, holland lops, and eventually will get back into netherland dwarfs. I love the challenge and enjoyment of raising rabbits, I love the genetics and the planning needed. I love showing and seeing how I can improve. The different breeds fascinates me and I cannot say ill do one breed forever because the challenge is just too irresistible. I love mentoring other breeders like my self and still love to place my young rabbits into the arms of loving families.
