Did you know that your pup excessively shaking their ears can be dangerous?

After the grooming process of cleaning your pups ears you may notice they may be in discomfort causing your pup to excessively shake their ears. After time this can cause a blood vessel to burst where blood will pool between the skin and the cartilage in the ears forming a hematoma. This can be extremely painful for your pup and take months to fully heal leaving scar tissue and deformation of the ear.

If you notice excessive shaking of your pups ears after grooming you can calm the shaking by tying a long sock/scarf around head and ears…. Always with supervision of course. They will usually settle down for a nap and urge to shake should subside. If shaking or scratching persists or a hematoma begins to form, please consult a veterinarian for medical attention. An underlying condition may need to be treated.
