We can't get enough of these two. Snoop and Martha are always finding something new to explore and yesterday, Snoop had a Starbucks disposable cup removed from him that he stole from a recycling container, and off he hopped with the cup in his mouth, very proud of himself.
It is constant antics, stealing banana peels, jumping into garbage cans, and able to get back out. Lately, it has been enjoying treats hidden between stacking cups.
Rabbits are smart and when they are social and food motivated, being able to teach them tricks is possible.
Last week it was chasing down Martha as she ran past staff with a bag of rabbit treats in her mouth. We are not sure how she even got a hold of them.
It is sort of like having puppies that never grow up, but the poops are much easier to deal with.

Ethel has been waiting for her loving home for 54 days. When Ethel came to us she was very afraid and probably not feeling her best. With time, good care, and a nice clean area to run around and stretch out in, Ethel turned into a social and friendly rabbit.
Ethel has been introduced to several rabbits of all shapes and sizes and she has not particularly liked any of them. We are not sure if Ethel needs to be a single bunny in a home.
That being said, Ethel is very clean, litter box trained, and would do very well in a calm, quiet home. She loves to have her ears and forehead stroked and will close her eyes in bunny bliss. Greens are the means to this girl's heart.
We have to say, watching a rabbit's nose wiggle is kind of cathartic.
Just a reminder that we have a pet foodbank with food and supplies for those who are struggling. The cost of living is affecting many of us so please reach out if we can help. We have ferret and bearded dragon food as well as cat and dog.
4 day old baby bunnies or kits. Can you hear the noises they make? Not easy to hear with the naked ear, but somehow the video was able to pick up the sounds.
Tiny new baby bunnies are very jumpy and as you can see when one moves they all jump. Ears and eyes are closed and they rely completely on their Mother. In 10 to 14 days they will be able to move around much better, their eyes and ears will open and they will get more fur. What you are seeing is mostly the pigment of their skin, not fur.
The Doe or Mother only nurses them twice a day. In the early morning and in the evening. Rabbits are a lagomorph and not a rodent and they are also crepuscular, which means they are the most active in the early morning and dusk.
Many prey animals are crepuscular even if they are domesticated. Can you name another animal that has the same schedule?
This is a perfect example of how necessary our volunteers are. This cat was shut down at the Sea to Sky center and after volunteers and staff worked diligently on trying to gain his trust and to make him feel more comfortable, it came to a time when our progress with him had stalled. Our amazing West Van center offered to put him and his brother in a foster home who had experience working with shy cats. In less than a week, this is the result.
If we did not have our volunteers to help, we would never have an opportunity to help cats like Smoochie and Raven.
The laziest, laidback, sweet, food-loving bunnies in all of the universe. Princess Leihop and Luke Skyhopper have now been in the BC SPCA's care for over 6 months. Who can resist a giant rabbit lounging in a cat bed!
Enjoying the snuffle mat with cheerios and dried strawberries. We think of snuffle mats for dogs and cats, but bunnies love a good snuffle too.
