“We should never underestimate the powerful draw of a bond with a being that loves us unconditionally, asking very little in return. Losing this comfort and source of joy can be incomprehensible.” Linda Lipshutz

Anticipatory Grief:

Occurs before the actual death of your pet family member. It can be a natural response to receiving a serious or terminal diagnosis for your pet family member. Also, it may accompany the recognition that your pet family member is gradually declining with age and not able to play and be as active as when they were younger. You grieve each change that leads to a loss, up to and including their ultimate death. Anticipatory grief, while natural, can be quite painful. Your emotions can seem like a rollercoaster, teetering between gratitude and joy to grief and sadness and everything in between. We are all different people and therefore, our responses will be as different as we are. Honor your feelings, whatever they may be and allow them space. Be kind to yourself and do something that feeds your spirit. Reach out to familiy and friends for encouragement and support. Seek professional help from a pet loss grief and bereavement counselor if you feel that you need the additional support. Hope and healing are found when we share each other's burdens and look to the way forward, one moment and one step at a time. 🐾🌈

The trees let go of their leaves in autumn and look forward to rest during the winter and renewal in the spring. May you also find courage to gradually let go of your grief and look with hope at the gift of renewal and peace!

Fear
It is said that before entering the sea a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has traveled, from the peaks of the mountains, the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,she sees an ocean so vast, that to enter there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way. The river can not go back.
Nobody can go back. To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk of entering the ocean because only then will fear disappear, because that’s where the river will know it’s not about disappearing into the ocean, but of becoming the ocean.
Khalil Gibran

Guilt is normal after our pet dies. What if we did things differently? What if we made different decisions, etc.? All of the 'what ifs' come flooding in and mesmerize us with guilt, feelings of inadequacy and grief. Remember in those times, that you loved your pet family member dearly and that you made the very best decisions that you could with the.information that you had at the time. Be kind and gentle with yourself as you find your way forwards, one moment and one step at a time.

One of the greatest Life Lessons that our pet family members teach us is to live in the moment. May we live our moments, as best we can, with gratitude, hope and peace.
