❗️Emergency Care: Effective July 2nd.❗️

To our wonderful clients.

We are here for you.

We understand the recent announcement by Veterinary Specialty Centre (VSC), regarding the closure of after-hours emergency care, has caused much worry and concern; however, your pet's care is our top priority, and we want to ensure you they will continue to have emergency services.

Our team has been diligently working closely with the other local hospitals on a collaborative plan to ensure your pets continue to have the 24/7 emergency care they need, after July 2nd.

The Avalon team is here to help support you through this process and we appreciate your patience and understanding as our veterinary community works together to create this new change. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Thank you

Is your pet at risk for Diabetes? 🐾 Diabetes is a disease that affects pets in the same way it affects people. Pets with diabetes can and do live happy lives with proper care and a lifelong treatment plan.⠀

Early detection of diabetes will make it much more manageable, with some cases able to be managed through diet and others requiring ongoing insulin.⠀

Having regular wellness exams for your dog or cat will help detect any changes in your pet's overall health.⠀

🐾 Embrace the golden years. Here are our top three tips for nurturing a senior cat or dog:

1. Regular Veterinary Check-Ups: Senior pets benefit from routine semi annual check-ups to identify and manage age-related health issues such as arthritis, sensory impairments, and organ concerns. These visits help catch and treat ailments early on.

2. Proper Nutrition: Senior dogs thrive on a tailored diet that matches their age and lifestyle. Opt for a balanced regimen, lower in calories yet rich in protein and nutrients to support muscle and bone health. Avoid overfeeding and provide constant access to fresh water.

3. Exercise and Mental Stimulation: Tailor exercise routines for your senior pet, focusing on low-impact activities that accommodate their age and physical limitations. Gentle walks, interactive play, and engaging toys aid in mental stimulation, mobility maintenance, and weight management.

For any inquiries or concerns regarding senior pet care, reach out to us. 🐾

We've been receiving a lot of questions about whether or not ticks are present on the island. The answer is YES.

Help us help Willow and Amber! 🐾❤️

❗️UPDATED DAY AND TIME❗️

Due to the on going inclement weather we will move the fundraiser to:

SUNDAY MARCH 10th 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Avalon Animal Hospital

Reminder this is a CASH ONLY fundraiser. If you are unable to make it, EMT's can be sent to:
[email protected]

Willow is a 3 year old Maltese mix owned by Amber Brown. As most of you are aware, Amber has a big role to play in the local rescue world and has helped SO many animals. Now it is our turn to help Amber with her own animal.

The staff at the Avalon Animal Hospital will be donating their time to help raise funds for Amber.

We will be offering WALK-IN ONLY $20 nail trims and $20 a**l gland expressions. There will be homemade baked goods for sale as well!

This is CASH ONLY and ALL proceeds will be donated directly to Willow's travel expenses and care while in Quebec.

Willow's story :

Willow was diagnosed on Monday at the VSC with atlantoaxial instability via a CT scan. Willow has lost ability to properly walk on her front right paw and she is dragging her left hind leg, causing her to fall over due to instability. This neurological issue can quickly spread causing paralysis to the diaphragm leading to death. Right now, Willow is in a very uncomfortable cast because sudden movement can be fatal. She is being syringe fed and carried around since her diagnosis. This is no way to see a 3 year old normally active and happy dog to live

Willow needs access to a neurologist, MRI machine and a specialist surgeon; the only location that has all 3 and are comfortable performing this very complicated surgery is in Quebec.

Time is of the essence; in the coming weeks Willow and Amber will travel to see the neurologist at Centre Vétérinaire Daubigny where she will have an MRI and specialty appointment with the neurologist.

Please visit us and help us raise funds to help alleviate the overwhelming costs for Amber and sweet Willow.
