This bloodwork can be scheduled ahead of the surgery (which allows us time to manage any potential issues), or can be done the same day as the procedure in our in house lab!

Bayley and Oakley are here to show how simple annual bloodwork is! Here you can see RVT Rebecca collecting blood from the jugular vein (seems scary but is really not!) while Dr. Madeleine assists with restraint.

Both dogs were in for their annual exam and vaccines today. They are both 3 years old and very healthy, but their pawrents understand the importance of annual bloodwork so we are sending out full panels on both dogs (this includes a complete blood count of red and white blood cells, biochemistry screen of internal organs and electrolytes, and a thyroid check) as well as in clinic testing for heartworm, Lyme disease, and tick borne disease.

Both dogs were superstars for blood collection! It truly is a very simple procedure and can tell us so much about our patients.

Remember that ticks are still very active this time of year!! Ticks can be active any time temperatures are above zero degrees Celsius.Black legged deer ticks like this little lady (found on a dog in clinic this week!) have peaks of activity in spring and fall. This is the species that can carry Lyme disease. Make sure your pet is on flea and tick prevention - call us if you need to pick up more!

Kiwi also wants to help us introduce Andrea, our new veterinary technician! Andrea has been with us for a few months now, and she is a great addition to the team. Originally from Colombia 🇨🇴, she has been in Canada for 6 years and just got her Canadian citizenship this year! Andrea likes pets of all shapes and sizes, and at home she has 1 dog (Rico) 🐶, 3 cats (Copito, Oreo, and new rescued kitten Ophelia) 🐱, and 4 rats 🐀. Say hi to Andrea next time you are in the clinic!

Our friends at eTick put together this great video on what you need to know about ticks in Canada, and what to do if you find one. Did you know you can submit pictures of ticks you find to https://www.etick.ca/ or the mobile app and receive FREE identification of the species? This helps us know what diseases your pet (or you!) might have been exposed to. The data also helps track tick species and activity across Canada, giving us a better understanding of these creepy crawlies. #tickseason #tickeducation #canadianticks
