WELL WRITTEN! We are NOT anti-vaccination - JUST VACCINATE WISELY & JUDICIOUSLY! Our animals' immune systems are amazing. We used to titer test cats for FVR, but ALL had GREAT titers so we no longer recommend titer testing for FVR OR continued FVR vaccines. Let's concentrate on WELLNESS (which may include FeLV and FIV testing) & DIET to increase the longevity of our feline friends!!

Read on from Dr. Deva Khalsa, VMD:

Let's start with some plain and simple facts. Out of all the components in your cat's 'supposed' yearly booster shot, the one disease you have to worry about is Feline Distemper. The thing that's important to know is that kittens get Feline Distemper. Adult cats have virtually no incidence of this disease. Dr. Ronald Schultz, a prominent veterinary immunologist, feels that after a year, a cat's immune system has matured, and there is no risk for Feline Distemper (also called Feline Panleukopenia Virus and this is what it is listed as in the 'booster shot')

Another fact that sits in plain view is that one vaccination for this disease, after the age of 18 weeks, is good for the life of the cat. That data is- again- from Dr. Ronald Schultz, one of the most recognized veterinary immunologists in the field.

So if your cat ... and this is very likely....has had a vaccine or two for Feline Distemper or is not a kitten, why keep getting the vaccine? There's not even a need to consider whether or not your cat is an indoor cat or if he or she has an exposure risk. The vaccine is effective and long lasting, so why keep going in, year and year out, for this unnecessary vaccination?

But that's not the whole story. There's more. Because if vaccines didn't have adverse affects on our cats health I wouldn't even bring this topic up. So what if cats get too many vaccines, if it doesn't hurt them and it makes your veterinarian happy... where's the harm?

That said, vaccines are not harmless. They are considered a medical procedure, with risks and benefits. Are vaccines safe? And the answer is an emphatic NO. Vaccines do not only cause immediate reactions like swelling at the site of vaccination or lethargy and fever. Vaccines do cause real life threatening health problems later on. VAS is an abbreviation for Vaccine Induced Sarcoma. One of the VAS tumors is the fibrosarcoma tumor, which is all too common in cats right at the site of the vaccination.

Another thing is the virus for this vaccine is grown in a culture of feline kidney cells. It's estimated that 80%-90% of cats will go into kidney failure.

Colorado State University did some research which showed that the majority of kittens develop autoantibodies to their own kidney tissue after being vaccinated for Feline Distemper. Then each additional booster vaccination creates more antibodies to a cat's own kidneys. Your cat's immune system will then attack the kidneys, causing a low grade inflammation, and as the years pass it all adds up with kidney failure as the result.

The rub is that the vaccine isn't even needed.

Vaccinate responsibly. Adult cats do not need this vaccine at all. You can learn more about vaccines in my new book The Allergic Pet. It's written for both dogs and cats.

Another great DIY from the oily queen of homemaking … Melissa Poepping

WOOD WAX

The other day while in the Apiary, I discovered one of my hives had a few naughty workers that decided to build a bit of burr comb. No worries…I was there to clean it up and set them back on the right path of proper hive keeping. Of course, I did find myself with a good amount of wax that I didn’t yet know what to do with. A quick walk through the house and I decided a few cutting boards and antique pieces of furniture needed a bit of polishing. So of course, I retreated to the crafting cabinet to see what I could create. And, voila…a wood wax worthy for any Queen of domesticity. Of course if you cannot wait for your own hive to produce excess wax, you can purchase pellets online.

The bigger picture is that you are eliminating yet another toxic product from your home, thanks to your DIY crafting skills. (Did you know that the vast majority of wood polishes and cleaners are so laden with toxins that the small print says that you should only use in a well-ventilated area, AND keep far away from children and pets??!!)

My friends, of course there is a better way, and here it is!

✨️INGREDIENTS✨️

3/4 C Olive Oil

1/2 C Bees Wax (1/4 C if finely shredded)
(Purchase online)

1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner

30 drops Orange Essential Oil

DIRECTIONS
In a saucepan, bring olive oil to 130°f. Add beeswax and stir continuously while bringing the heat to 225°f. Once the wax has melted completely, remove from heat and continue stirring until the temperature lowers to 120-130°f. Add Thieves Household Cleaner and Orange Essential Oil, stirring constantly. While still in a liquid state, pour into glass jars. If using acrylic jars, bring temperature down to 110°f

APPLICATION
On a clean wood surface, take a bit of Wood Wax on a clean soft cloth and gently rub the surface.
For use on real wood surfaces only. Do not use on painted surfaces or veneers. Ideal for cutting boards, butcher block counters, and your family heirloom antiques.

⚠️ If your dog eats processed dog food, he could be getting a dose of petroleum in every meal.
Even raw dog foods can contain petroleum from fruits and vegetables … if they’re not organically grown.

Here’s where petroleum is coming from and how it can harm your dog:

1️⃣ . PETROCHEMICALS … are crude waste products from the oil industry used to make fertilizers and pesticides. They’re used on common dog food ingredients like spinach, kale, apples, oats, wheat, millet, barley, peas, lentils and chickpeas. Chronic exposure has been shown to cause tumors, genetic changes, nerve disorders, endocrine disruption and birth defects.
