TICK Tuesday!

Ticks are a small parasite that attach themselves to your skin to feed on blood. They are found commonly through thick wooded or grassy areas. They can't start the size of a grain of sand and grow expentionally if left.

There are a few differences species in Ontario such as the Lone star tick, brown-dog tick (can carry Ehrlichia in dogs which is a bacteria that effects the white blood cells), and the most common which is the Black-legged tick also known as the Deer tick( can carry Lyme Disease).
Ticks can tansmit diseases (Lyme Disease, Powassan Virus), toxicosis(pathological condition caused by posion/toxin) and produce paralysis.

To remove ticks use tweezers or tick remover to grasp the tick close to its head and pull straight up with a slow steady motion, never twisting making sure to remove the head entirely from the skin. Then clean the area where the removal was preformed.

It is always important to treat your pets with the neccassary flea/tick prevention, and check their skin and coats regularly ensuring no tick ick!

As pet parents we all love to reward of fur babies will all the goodies we can. But do we always remember to feed them healthy, nutritious treats that they can benefit from in the long run?

Giving your dog treats that have un-natural and inexpensive fillers including ingredients such as Propylene Glycol, exessive salts, Xylitol(sugar alcohol), corn, wheat, and soy can give your pet a incomplete nutritional diet.

Now giving your dog ingredients such as oatmeal, eggs, carrots, pumpkin, oats, honey, sweet potato, apple, cheese, beef, turkey, salmon are all natural healthy ingredients that contains low calories, lots of vitamins, Fibre, high quality proteins, healthy fats, and natural carbohydrates.

So...want to find the perfect treat that will give your pet the satisfaction of pure joy, as well as give yourself the satisfaction of knowing your dog is getting the right healthy benefits they need?

We recommend;
Kathy's Canine Cookies . Kathy can make dog treats that suit your dog's health and diet needs. Made with all 100% natural ingredients, treats can be customized, baked and made to your preference.

FOR THE LOVE OF PAWS, Manicures, Pedicures, Pawdicures!

What is a quick? A quick is a soft cuticle containing the blood vessel and nerves that run through your dog's nails. Typically a healthy nail quick is 1mm in length.

Benefits of nail trims:
•Smaller risk of snagging or breaking the nail/quick.
• Results in better body posture and structure.
• Eliminates the risk of sensitivity to the nail which results in pain free walking.
•Shrinks the quick, allowing the nail to shrink to proper length.

Risks of not getting nail trims:
•Causes toe joint pressure/twisting toes to the side.
•Can lead to arthritis and pain due to pressure on nail bed.
•Outer enamel can wear away which can lead to full exposure of the quick, potentially causing infection.
•Puts pressure and force on the leg and foot structure.

Getting frequent nail trims every 3-4 weeks on routine will ensure good health for your pets. No need for quicking and causing discomfort. Remember, all pets and body structures are different, so nail trim routines may very from every breed. Some breeds automatically have longer quick do to their breed specific jobs, which may require more frequent nail trims.
It takes time, patience and dedication that surely will be worth it for both yourself and pet. Making life a little more quiet and comforting.

PS. Best benefit for the pet parent, groomers do the work for you! No need feeling guilty or anxious trying to clip them yourselves, we want to help you with this process. ♡ 🐾

Ever wonder to yourself "am I using the right brush for my dogs coat? It's a good honest question that we want to help you with!
Now that we've talked about how to maintain a smooth healthy coat, let's talk about grooming tools that will help assist you in the proper care for your pets fur.

The Dematting Rack; with allow you to break up starting matts before they get to tight and close to the skin.

The Slicker Brush(hard pins); will brush out thick undercoat, brushing from skin outward so the coat is garenteed mat/pelt free.

Short Pin Comb(fine/course); helps with removal of tangles and dead undercoat. After regular brushing is applied, this comb will assure you a smooth, fine coat. If you cant get this comb through the coat..more brushing is required.

Believe it or not, groomers don't want to shave your dog right down unless it's wanted not needed!.
Now that the cooler fall weather is here, let's quickly talk about maintaining a healthy coat for your dog!

What is matting? Matting is knots and tangles of hair wrapped around itself that may cause pelting underneath the fur; which can lead to skin irritations, pain, and also other sevre health issues. ( hematoma, hot spots, parasites etc)

What is a healthy coat? A coat that is soft and relatively smooth. The coat closest to the skin should maintain a constant ease when brushed through with a comb.

A healthy coat can be maintained by: Scheduling regular grooming appointments (4-10 weeks depending on breed and coat) brushing daily; not only the surface of the coat, but by spreading the fur apart to brush close the skin ensuring pelting is avoided.

A good diet can also aid in coat health. Look for:
Omega-6 fatty acids, Omega 3, nutrients containing all natural vitamin E, and other important nutrients to help give your dog's coat the care it needs to make grooming and the time inbetween grooms more enjoyable for both yourself and your loved pets.
