Mikado, the kindest, sweetest and most level headed boy. The younger of our two c**ts, he has an old soul and, if you observed him and his brother for any length of time, you'd easily assume he's the oldest. He's quiet, gentle, patient and agreeable, such a good boy. I think this photo depicts Mikado's character perfectly. Without any words.

GIVING OUR THANKS...
Thanksgiving. It's just another day in a horse's life, and, to be completely honest in ours as well. The rhythm of our days remains constant, grounded in and intertwined with the lives of our animals. We're unbelievably grateful for it, So thankful.

WAITING FOR SUPPER
As hard as it is to accept the facts, supper time falls after dark nowadays. Lancaster's meal is "served" in the field, and he was first in line at the gate, illuminated by the silver light of Mr. Moon. The sky was crystal clear, the air crisp and all stars were out, a gorgeous evening for a visit with the herd!

STRIKING IT LUCKY;)
A few more Summer photos of Lancaster. It's like hitting a jackpot to be able to get shots ( any decent shots) of these Canadians where their heads aren't down! Flags, rattles, lamma or donkey sounds, nothing bothers them at all. Easier said than done! It's impressive, a wonderful thing and, at the same time, a bit of a curse, lol!

NATURAL MOTHER
The herd came back this morning for water and their usual AM snooze. The sun rises slowly nowadays... FireFly nursed Morningstar as the bright, morning light filled the pasture. This beautiful mare, she did such a wonderful job giving us a perfect c**t and jumping into motherhood as if she's done it a million times. She's patient and forgiving. A natural.

OH, KABRIOLE...
I snapped this accidental photo at the last second yesterday. She was very far and my attention was on something else when I noticed her coming towards me. Kabriole, the show stopper! Watching her move around inevitably does turn into a show. She possesses such an incredible lightness in her movement and a grace in the way she uses her body I can't take my eyes off of her. What an incredible young mare. We absolutely adore her.

GENERAL SIR MORNINGSTAR;)
Nothing escapes Morningstar's attention. It's funny how seriously he's taking the job of surveying his "kingdom" ;) Like a general, his eyes sparkling with curiosity mixed with a dose of suspicion, he assesses and investigates anything that seems to be out of the ordinary, before returning to bugging his brother for another round of horse play.

GENETICS AT WORK
Mikado has only one sibling on his dam's side so far, Klassique, who lives the best life we could ask for him with his loving owner in Tennessee. Their momma's influence in terms of body features is evident while their maternal grandsire Azhurée's colour, dark bay, travels through each time. Fascinating. Two c**ts look strikingly similar at this age with the exception of markings, Mikado has none. Btw, Mikado is also his own sire, Merit's only non-black offspring! What a special boy you are, Mikado!
